I saw THE DOORS at Madison Square Garden before he had the beard. Before the Soft Parade Album. And it was like a studio performance except for the jokes Jim made and the feedback from the audience. They were amazing and Manzarek and Morrison made a great songwriting and arranging partnership. Shame about the damn drugs and booze. Jim used to walk on the edges of building roofs. Who knows why? A death wish? Maybe... he wrote songs called The End and Moonlight Drive... dark soul...
@showtuneful Cheers for sharing that. Jim was alot smarter than he made out I believe, he crafted himself into what we call a legend and will be remembered till the end of humanity
@markenhagen Who? Are you comparing that little teeny-bopper loving child whose been around for such a short time and who never lived yet, to a man who traveled the world and lived through the 60's in a rock band and whose music has been loved now for half a century? Wooo.
you can't be serious. what are you doing listening to this ? Are you lost looking for Beiber ville? Beiber isn't even in the same species as Jim Morrison
Well, I woke up thee morning and, as is usual, I grabbed myself a beer. No, not an alcoholic but when the mood strikes me such as it has this morning I'll play this song - Ah, but what would it be to listen to this song in the morning without grabbing mahself a beer.? Or perhaps even 2 or 3? Sacrilege is what. This has been a ritual of mine as I've been doing this very same thing for the last 35 years. Here's to you Jim! Cheers!
@halifaxcitadel man that's why bands don't sound as good today, before it was the artists work straight to the people. there was a connection you kno, nowadays, everything is meant to sound too good and the real magic of the music is lost through that..
However bad people think they may sound here, they still sound a damn sight better than most live bands today. At their worst, they were still the best. Long live The Doors!
@MrBillyjim69 no, i prefer them live. he just sounds bad here. He was probably drunk, tired or just not feeling it. No one preforms at their best all the time and we all know he didn't. Was just stating this was the worst I've seen the Doors speak about bad performances in interviews but I'd never actually heard one. Ofcourse , it's all subjective.

Jim was a great commanding presence and a damn sexy frontman, But a world class poet? Not buying it.
"Ride the snake to the lake..." would not look out of place in a Doctor Seuss rhyme.
I love some of The Doors music! I perform one with my band. I've been to pay my respects at Jim's grave. But get real: Jim was no Kenneth Patchen.
Had he lived longer, we would have memories of him as old, fat, and burned out to compete with the blazing hot memories of his youth. As it is, he's 27 forever.
@gamester57 Lol! No, Dr Seuss was truly a great American poet (of a certain stripe). Way less pretentious than Jim Morrison too.
I guess Jim did get fat, and I guess a heroin OD at 27 is a tediously popular way to burn out. But I was thinking of fat and weird the way Elvis got fat and weird. (Or David "crack pipe" Crosby, for that matter). Jim wasn't around long enough to get there. Only Crosby accidentally survived long enough to get a new liver and live a reasonably dignified old age.

Ladies & Gentleman, Today is the 40th anniversary of the recording of the Rock N' Roll anthem song "Roadhouse Blues". Everybody go have a beer and a shot of whiskey!
Cha Cheeeeeeeeee Cha Cha Cha Cheeeeeeee Shoooooo Nooooooooo PIng Pong....Hey RIGHT!!! Yeah!!! I was high as a mother fuckin' kite that night. LOL !! Jim Morrison
saw them at felt forum, NYC in 1970, (I think), and Jim was on the money, no bullshit or theatrics. He just stood there and sang. Good show. They opened with Roadhouse (if I remember correctly)and it was a new song to us. Morrison's Hotel hadn't been released, or it just was coming out.
Wow! you're so lucky my friend, you got to see the Doors live. I would of love to have been there myself except that I was five years old at the time and living in Europe.
I think Jim needed a Rock Star energy drink for this one ... hey .. is there a commercial there for the beverage ... a before and after compare and contrast of identical songs. Would that work?
The harmonica isn't in the song because a man named John Sebastian played it on the studio version. He does not play with the band so unfortunately the harmonica solo isn't on this version. Great song though.
that's funny comment. I think it was Jim singing ... only this time he wasn't possessed like he normally is .. or was. He may be possessed now ... as in being in eternal possession of the demon(s) who tormented him and escorted him to the dark place .. that other side be broke on through to.

Hey Ray Man: when are the Doors going to honor the fans and issue this show?
JTerrible63 2 years ago
saw them at felt forum, NYC in 1970, (I think), and Jim was on the money, no bullshit or theatrics.

Jim on vocal ? Yes ! Ray Manzarek were more stiff.

I think Jim needed a Rock Star energy drink for this one ... hey .. is there a commercial there for the beverage ... a before and after compare and contrast of identical songs. Would that work?

jim is wasted on something in this, that's for sure.

were the hell is the harmonica solo....what the fuck man!!!!!
Justuscrazyteenagers 2 years ago
The harmonica isn't in the song because a man named John Sebastian played it on the studio version. He does not play with the band so unfortunately the harmonica solo isn't on this version. Great song though.
ClassicRock60s70s 2 years ago
John Sebastian? Is that the John Sebastian from The Loving Spoonful?
BoxcarFred 2 years ago
Sounds like they had to drag Jim out of bed for this one.

that's funny comment. I think it was Jim singing ... only this time he wasn't possessed like he normally is .. or was. He may be possessed now ... as in being in eternal possession of the demon(s) who tormented him and escorted him to the dark place .. that other side be broke on through to.
