  • Wow, truly an amazing sounding amp*****If I had the $ to splurge on a new amp, this would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, be the one. Sonic bliss...sweet tones!!!

  • Is the Retro Wreck the same amp as the RR1 sold at Destroy All Guitars? This one looks much different. I just want to be clear - is the amp in this video solid state and identical to this one?: destroyallguitars . com / newarrivals-amps/3906-retrochannel-rr1

  • Does this amp have a Hiss when loud? like a tube amp. Every tube amp I ever had (marshall, mesa, peavey etc.) has an annoying Hiss when the gain and volume is up.

  • Solid State?

  • Did you use any effects on this demo? I can hear some reverb or something and there isn't a reverb-knob on the amp I think...

  • @speedRickspeed

There is not a reverb knob on the amp but there is a room that its in and rooms make a reverb sound when they have a mic on them.

  • @lancekeltner Thanks!

  • Look under the "New Arrivals Amps" section. It's the very first listing.

  • Amazing sound! I can't find it on the Destroy All Guitars website....

  • @hossguitar Got it, the finished product has a different look and is named RR1

  • I think, you can plug anything into that cab and it sounds great!

Please tell us what kind of speakers you use!?

  • 'Sounds amazing...

  • I didnt see anytrhing on the site about this amp.

  • Getting a solid state amp to sound good in the bedroom, or on a recording is much easier than getting one to push through the mix in a live band situation. This is the problem with solid state amps that those of us who have wasted money on them find out the hard way. Other than that this clip sounds great.

  • @JTM45100 That's the point of this video - not all ss amps are equal, and it looks like you've wasted your money on cheap/poor quality solid state amps. I have a 1985 Sessionette 75 (British made 1 x 12" combo) that's never lost in the mix, and which produces tone that other musicians envy (I say it's in my fingers, but they say, no, it's the amp...).

  • @howardsinclair You assume a lot. You're right about one thing. I wasted much money on SS Amps through the decades, but of all levels of quality. I've tried many more, and then I bought my first superlead. A 73. Then I learned how to build tube amps. (The thing that all the SS amps try to emulate.) My favorites are the Marshalls, and I've learned how to mod and build all eras of them. And your 1x12 striaght up would get lost in the mix next to a Loud Sunn Bass amp/player.

  • @JTM45100 I agree SS amps aim for a tube sound (so why not get a tube amp) but mine's good, at a fraction of the weight and with more reliable. Regarding band context, if I play with musicians whose amps are much more powerful than my 75W, then I mic it up into the PA - which is another SS amp. I usually play in smaller bands - currently the bass player has a 300W Trace Elliot and my amp is never unheard. Another thing: play clean to be heard. Too much distortion and you get lost in the mix.

  • @howardsinclair That's the key right there. You have to run it through the PA. It is funny that the PA is a SS amp too, go figure, but the reason it makes up the difference is because it disperses the sound. Smaller Venues where you don''t go too loud this works fine. But even in a smaller venue, if your bass player was a John Entwhistle type, OMG you would be hard pressed to be heard even with the PA. I went through this battle personally.

  • @JTM45100 A 75W tube amp would need to be miked up in similar circumstances (including if it had a small cabinet). I agree about dispersal - my amp's quite directional. Sometimes I face it into a corner so the sound bounces everywhere. If I connected it to a 4 x 12" cabinet, there'd be no difference between it and a similarly rated tube amp. Maybe we should just agree to disagree?

  • @howardsinclair Agreed, but I think you need to use a tube amp live to hear the difference un-Pa'd, because a a 100w Superlead all tube amp straight up (no PA), will push through the mix better than a 260 watt SS Amp. I'm speaking from experience as a musician and an amp builder, and as one who helps teach other amp builders. Don't get me wrong. I think this recorded tone sounds great, but it's just a fact (not my opinion) that Tube amps push through the mix. That's why the pros use them.

  • @JTM45100 Before buying the Sessionette I had a Marshall 50W head with a 4 x 12 cab. Yes it was very good, but with the smaller amp, I don't notice any lack of power/volume; plus it is so much smaller and lighter than the Marshall. I'm sure there are pros who use SS amps (Eric Clapton & Jan Akkerman used Sessionettes - plus there are amps such as the Roland JC120, Peavey 130 etc).

  • @howardsinclair They're ok for clean, and sure some of the pro try them for a little bit, and come running back for the real deal. But hey if that's what you like, and it works for your situation, enjoy.

  • @howardsinclair Your right it is in your fingers. A great player can make a POD sound great, and can amaze people with good recorded clips. One of the guys I taught how to build, is an amazing player, and he does just that. But live it's a no go. You got to go with the real deal. All tube, especially if you're in a rock band.

  • heck that thing sounds amazing!

  • what speakers are in use here?

this guitar sounds really good here. This player makes everything sound like money but still....the pickups are wonderful.

  • what speakers are in use here?

  • Do you ship in Denmark or anywhere in Europe?

  • @darkopage

    Yes we do.

Get in touch with Cliff at destroy all guitars.

    We ship anywhere

  • do you ship in South America?

  • @fodacvc

    YES

  • where do i buy that thing?

  • @Macmax7077

Call Cliff at Destroy All Guitars. The list is open now and they will ship in a few weeks.

  • @Macmax7077

Cliff at Destroy All Guitars is the dealer

  • Holy crap THIS is solid state??????

  • @jammers5 Yep. It's mindblowing, isn't it? I always knew that someday someone would make a solid state amp that sounds like an honest-to-god tube amp. But this sounds better than a lot of tube amps (not all, but a lot). I really want one. Less than $1000, too, which is a steal for an American-made 100W head.

  • @HolyKatana You could call me a "cork sniffer" when it comes to tube amps. I just don't believe solid state amps can achieve the sound of a tube amp, i would love to hear this amp in person, it sounds great in the videos!

  • are you running through a 2x12?

  • Is the EQ pre or post distortion... makes a big difference. I have a Session SS amp with one channel pre and one channel post... ideal for all kinds of playing styles.

  • Impressive.

  • Sounds fantastic!

  • I know I'm one of like... 4 people in the world that prefers SS to tubes. Tubes just never gave me the... throat slitting edge that SS did. Plus, you NEVER have to worry about your tone changing when your tubes die/get replaced. My fave tone is Dimebag's SS Randall tone. When he went Krank, it just wasn't tight enough anymore. Yea, you can mod it, but then it's not original.

Anywho, this head sound pretty good, even tho they're trying for the tube sound, which I don't get why.

  • The only complaint is that it doesn't have enough gain for my liking. Other than that, that is one helluva solid state amp! Easily the best I've ever heard.

  • man my valve amp would hum louder than that low volume sustain ...great amp

  • Where can I buuuuuy this.

  • Is the gain on this usable at all above noon? Most wreck-style amps I've tried have been way too gainy if you're looking for a 60s Marshall sort of tone.

  • I've always been a fan of SS amps but this pretty much takes the cake - staggering tones.

  • That is the best solid state amplifier I've ever heard. If companies followed this amp as an example and began to make SS amps to have their OWN voicing, and take advantage of being SS rather than trying to emulate tube amps, tube amps are sure to go extinct, for better or worse.

  • @KingsRok93 sounds great, but we've been hearing about tubes amps going extinct for decades - it'll never happen. I've played both extensively over many years, and although this sounds great, I'd have to play it first to see if it has that unique tube "feel". Also, I've had both types fail in gigs, but tubes amps can be back up again with a replacement tube, like changing a light bulb and costs a few bucks. The SS amp had to go into the shop; took days to fix and loads of dollars!

  • @peterjgraham247 that's the thing, SS still has a lot of kinks to work out. Plus this is a You Tube video, so for all we know this amp could actually sound terrible in person.

  • @KingsRok93 ummm... youtube never makes things sound better than they actually are, only worse

  • @peterjgraham247 Yeah dude but this thing is like $700 compared with how much for your great tube head? This thing smokes and sounds so tubey. PLus that attenuation master dial is to die for in a bedroom situation. Where do I sign to get one!

  • I'll never need 100W's, but if it whispers with some hair, then I'm in. Well, if it's not booteek pricing like a Pritchard.

    TrainWreck reference eh?

  • From mean to scream to clean. Rock'in.

  • nice place.

  • Apparently this thing is solid state?

    Crazy stuff.

  • Wow. Very, very nice. Must try one.

  • My world just got turned upside down.

  • When is this coming out?

  • Yea it sounds amazing even on low volume!!! What kind of circuit does it have?

  • That has got to be one of the best low volume OD's that I have heard. Better than any attenuator !!

  • Just amazing.

  • Damn it.. I want one..

I also want one of those ASW 2x12 cabs on ur other vids.

    Cheers,

    Danny

  • DANG!!!!! Pure sickness..........PURE sickness. Incredible thing goin' there, man.
