One thing I really hope is that they don't phase out the tornado just because the Eurofighter arrivied...the tornado does what it's supposed to do, air-to-ground, extraordinarily well, and needs no replacement, simply more tech and avionics. The typhoon on the other hand is made for air-to-air, I see no better use for ist incredible performance. Typhoon flies in, seizes air dominance, allowing the tornado to fly in and and do what it does best: bomb everything to hell ^^

@Helge129 It has actually replaced the Tornado F3, with just the GR4 still left in active service with the RAF so taking on both the Offensive and Defensive roles of the RAF It wasn't just the F4 Phantom that had to be replaced, it was also the Lightning which was the main strike fighter at the time of design.

Eurofighter does certainly have got good qualities, but the fact it is NOT stealth makes him vulnerable.We see that in these days' operations ground attacks are being performed by old tornadoes and air patrolling - while there is no enemy aircraft!- by EFAIf there is a super-radared AWACS supporting and the enemy is an "old" aicraft, Eurofighter is of course bettern than every 4th generation airplane, but F-35 is better

@anisocoro. you don't know, the f-35 has never seen service. Anyway stealth is pointless becuase the aircraft has to turn its radar on to engage, and by doing that giving away its position. Manuverablity is better to go for.

I love how fighter pilots (in movies) keep taking their oxygen masks on and off all the time while engaged in combat, I like how the MFD screens here show the weapon select screen as animated and blinking, because a fighter pilot would off course rather have blinking slow animated screen rather than just switch and select ... The heat flares fool radar guided sam's, the plane can do high G turns and climbs with full drop tanks and heavy laser guided bombs still on their wings... ;)

You can ask any fighter pilots who been flying both Eurofighter and Gripen. And the versatility and STOL qualities is outstanding in Gripen. I know that to appoint a plane to be regarded as the best is a tough one if even possible. But Gripen is certainly in the top three. But I don't think there is a accidental occurrence that the Hungarian Gripen pilot "shoot down" the Eurofighter in a dogfight!

But I really think SAAB´s fighters over the years have been extremely underrated! We (Sweden) have a record excellent fighters over the years since WWII!

But you should check about SAAB´s earlier aircrafts. Most people never heard about them! Like the J-21 with the first ejection seat (The British later got the credits for it!). The J-29 Flygande Tunnan (The flying Barrel) who set several world records(Equally good as the Sabre)! The J-35 Draken who where equally good as the F-16 in the 70´s! The J-37 Viggen (Thunderbolt) who might have been the most underrated air-craft ever!

well then, the Eurofighter would atleast win in a dogfight. The F-45's manouvrebility should be comparable to the F-16 (so they say and hope). Beyond visual range I do not know, the F-35 has its stealth advantage (unless it is carrying extra payload on the wings). And the Eurofighter is more versitile. It is more suitable to be equiped with anti ground target ordanance.
