The dissapearance of Clem is so heartbreaking, makes you realize its just Joel talking to himself and how alone he feels at this point. The books dissapearing is also a nice touch .
The reverb before she disappears sounds like a poignant heart beat. This scene speaks to anyone who has that one person that they wish to their very core they could start over with because "it could be different." This scene feels like its punishing me, giving me the hope of an idea like this being able to start again. I leave that thought in my heart to a woman who probably doesn't remember.
@alasfran28 it did win the oscar for best original screenplay, but it should have at least gotten a best picture nod too. I never got that, how can a film win for best screenplay and not be nominated for best picture when the filmmaking is about as good as the script.
@burmppootbarpmeep Yeah I know it won Best Original Screenplay and I agree with you about the best picture nomination. It was shocking that it wasn't even nominated. Also I believe that Kate should have won Best Actress over Hilary Swank. Her performance was much more original and complex.
@burmppootbarpmeep Yeah the academy seem to have something against Jim Carrey. He won the golden globe for the Truman Show yet wasn't even nominated for the Oscar that year. When is the new film going to be released?
@alasfran28 they're just now casting, so probably not until fall 2012. It's called frank or francis. It's supposed to be about a filmmakier getting in arguments with a blogger online that hates his movies, it also has Kevin james playing himself in a role as a guy acting in a movie called obese city.
Notice the books.

i lov everything about this scene. the acting, the music, and i love the fact that you can see the books and the signs being erased from his memory

I think this is the most moving passage of the film, partly because it connects with some real personal matters of mine. But seriously, those lines;
- It would be different, if we could just give it another go-round.
- Remember me. Try your best. Maybe we can.

I just love that line. And the music makes it so much more poignant.
Wonderful, thought-provoking film which should have been recognised more by Hollywood.
