Easy way to win, rush everyone onto the hill behind you go into testudo formation and dont break the formation unless your getting charged at, also use your cav to back up the infantry if they do engage, eventually the horse archers will run out of ammo and will have to charge at you uphill, at this point it should be easy, just remember to not chase them

Horse archers are such a freaking pain, only way I manage to win this battle is pincer movement the caraphracts with your leigionaires then Chase em from behind with ur own cavalry, as for soldiers I jus surrounded em with cavalry and then attacked horse archers with leigionaires and went to top of hill and did testudo till they ran out of ammo and then chased them inti my legionaires using cavalry. Bloody hard work

I had a chance of winning this fight, but the infantry you start off with seem to be almost useless at cutting through the cavalry armour. I try charging their rear with cavalry, but there are not enogh horses.

Once a lot of time ago i won this battle on hard....runing the top of that them hill is the only way,i killed the catrapacts lost my hole cav in the process than jus sit there and waited for the horse archers to get without arrows and start charging one by one

I won this by getting my guys out of testudo and charging the cataphracts, cause legionaries do fairly well against cataphracts, then defended my legionaries from the Persian Cavalry with my cavalry, finished the cataphracts, then had to chase the horse archers around the whole frickin' battlefield..

This battle is probably the hardest one in RTW. But then again, you are MEANT to lose in this battle.

I had a really tight victory here.Those cataphracts were the ultimate pain in the ass for my cohorts but they survived,and I had to chase those horse archers across the whole battlefield with my cavalry.

I always enjoy playing the losing side (to see if I can win) The mounted archers have a speed and range advantage. They can out-maneover the the infantry and outrange everyone. I try to use terrain to prevent a clear shot and use the infantry to draw their fire. The instant that the mounted archers engage I split my cavalry around the hill and attack from both flanks. and bring in my Infantry.

I've not ever beat the Germans playing the French in WWII though... I know different game.

i had my calvary chase the horse archers till my horsemen fled then by some chance my infantry owned the cataphrancts. i had 2 units fight a couple of them then had two more charge the other cataphrancts coming at me till they fled, after that i had the surviving infantry come around and attack from the back. eventually i had my men go into testudo and rest until the horse archers ran out of arrows. when that happened they charged and died. srry bout the loss attila but u own all anyways.

@Suppressingfire what i do is put my legions into one formation two of each legionary cohorts bind as 1 then when the cataphracts are preparing to engage make sure roman pillas are ready to throw after the cataphract attack take crassus cav and his roman cavalry unit to charge i promise this battle is very depended on tactics its sometimes very easy sometimes hard

well i think this is how it meant to be its a historical battle and the legions of crassus lose bacause its historical they made this battle very hard so its very impossible to win but it whould also be a good idea if they made the parthians playable

Almost won this VH (using the hill tactic) but the AI messed up on the last second and stopped me pulling my men out of the testudo. There were only two wavering platoons of persian archers left when the damn AI screwed up. Bad show!

Another tip is to put your men into loose formation- not just for avoiding the persian arrows but also to hinder the horrible consequences of a cataphract charge.

in combined strength of the infantery, they should win. when that's done, just attack with the remaining cavalery the horse archers. and let ur infantery stand together in a testudo.

try to close the archers in by letting them chased to the corner of the game.

there, they cant outrun u anymore.

pretty easy historical battle.

i'd say

- keep your infantery together. set them in a rectangular with the backs to eachother. let 1 or 2 horse units attack the horse archers and let the rest stand at a safe distance, when the cataphracts attack the infantery, u just put ur safe cavalery in a charge in the back of the cataphracts, wich gives them a shock mass effect against the cataphracts.

heres a ip. If i remmber correctly you should keep your infatry alive with the testudo because without them you can win. try to chase the reinforcements of the Parthan army awaywith one or two horse units (they get scared easily) and then take out horsearchers with the combine strength of the infantr and calvary. If enough of your infantry is alive stand near the hill and fire javelins at the Parthians while your horses defend. Eventually if all goes well you can win.

This is a hard batle and can only be beaten with exztreme show of strategical smarts. I won one time and after that i never won it again (so far). Historically the Brutii were captured and the general had molten gold poured down his throat.

I hate how they try to start you off after someone makes a mistake in this along with the deployment issue. Basically your watching your army fail in a real battle but it's ALL your fault. Never send that many horsemen away from the rest of the army to scout.

I was able to win this battle without heading up the hill. As stated before just use a legionairre as wait and the the rest form a little triangle. Then got into the tustedo formation. Have form a large group and get away from the battle. When the cavalry begin to rush you again have your large cavalry group hit the from behind.

When I did it I took out half the enemy force in one push. The Partians then routed...

you wasted your cavalry way too soon. you should have left 1 or 2 legionnaires at where they stand at the beginning as bait, run the rest of legions up to the hill, and use cavalry only to chase off the horse archers.

i beat this so easily all you do is have the front 3 legionnaires attack the cataphracts and have your remaining cavalry attack different horse archers when the archers are routing attack the cataphracts from behind and the other leginnaires attack the cataphracts in front. it's a classic alexander the great pinscer crush! i didn't even lose my general!

PS3 Did you see that the units on the field are Shorter than the one described in the front battle page I think 2 units of Cavalary missing and 1 infantery....is that a bug ?

no it's not a bug, those unit get ambushed in the intro scene. I never won that battle at very hard. Never really tryed other then this try, i'm not a fanatic of historical battle I just like the campaign =)

Well hard to say, i didn't had much left to hunt down enemies cavalery archer, i think if i had play it on hard i would have won... When you play on hard enemie have a bonus of +2 in attack, at very hard that's +4, so that's more dangerous for your troop
