  • I document, using video, my recovery from inguinal hernia surgery myhernia.co.uk

  • Very good film but poor choice in instrument to push the offending intestine back into the abdominal cavity. I would have a scrub tech hand a more dull and curved instrument; moverover, even a small retractor because that would be a bad complication to puncture the intestine and not know about it till the patient worsens at home. The surgeon has sterile gloves and can use his index finger to push and prod.

  • I just has this done on 1/11/12. The surgery went very well. I don't even feel it the hernia repair and no more bulge above the my junk. My abdomen is quite sore but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, It was done laparoscopic.

  • Had mine done exactly a week ago. Hole was only about 2 inches though so I guess it wasn't very big. First few days sucked. Could barely get in and out of bed. But now I am feeling about 75% better.

  • hoy fuck! no wonder that shit hurt so bad when i woke up... i thought they just went in there and sewed it shut... they were hackin that dudes shit up!

  • I HEARD THERE ARE MANY ROMANIAN DOCTORS WORKING IN AUSTRIA,GERMANY,USA,FRANCE,SPAIN,ITALY..

I AM AFFRAID OF ROMANIAN DOCTORS..THEY SUCK..

MANY PATIENTS DIED BECAUSE THEY WERE TREATED BY ROMANIAN DOCTORS..

I WOULDNT HAVE SURGERY ...I DONT WANT MY LIFE TO DEPEND ON SOME unskilled Romanian doctor/surgeon..

Managers of Western European hospitals are seeking to hire Romanian doctors and nurses

this is wrong..DO NOT DO THIS,IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LIFE

    Romanians are stupid gypsies..bad doctors.

  • @freesefan1 hey man i just read your comment. i am now recovering from this as well. they do use anesthesia. you will be fine, man (:

  • Just came back from the hospital after having this done. 45 minute surgery.

  • i had a right inguinal hernia repair 7 weeks ago and even tho im back at work now sometimes i get a pain in the place they did the op like a sharp pain even when im not doing any physical activity. Is this normal???? is it still just healing??? or should i be worried that i went back to work to early and strained it in someway. my job consists of heavy lifting so i am worried

  • Finally: the technical side: a hernia is a hole in your abdominal wall, to fix most use mesh, the mesh sits on the back side (inside) of the abdominal wall, covering the hole and the pressure from your intestine is what holds it in place. Sometimes there is a stitch or two to help hold in place, then your tissue grows into it and it becomes part of your abdominal wall making it stronger. It does not attach to your muscle. Other times they pull the hole closed & stitch up, usually in small cases.

  • Also, the idea of a "pain free surgery" is totally crazy. In any procedure (big or small), your skin and or muscles will be cut, if you expect no pain from at least that you need to re-evaluate. Most people are in pain for a few days then sore (like being punched and having a bruise) for up to 2 weeks. Usually 6 weeks down time of no heavy lifting then back to normal. The sutures used inside are dissolvable and you shouldn't feel them.

  • I work for a general surgeon who does these all the time. To the person who was posting a while ago about general surgeons not doing many of these, he is wrong. For the most part hernia surgery is a general surgeons bread and butter. As for the rest: the mesh does not dissolve, your tissue grows into it (think about a vine growing in a lattice in your yard, much the same) and you shouldn't have pain from the mesh, in fact you shouldn't even feel it (unless they used a plug).

  • I just got an indirect inguinal hernia repaired 4 days ago. The first few days kinda suck, I feel physically much better today. Although, I do keelp feeling sick and a little dizzy. I know the 2nd week is supposed to be a lot better than the 1st so it shuold get a lot better soon.

  • hmmm

  • Tommorow , i am fucking going thru this

  • Just suffered 4th hernia last night. Another round of surgery. Third one lasted 11 years and that was the record. The other 2 lasted a year. On the plus side, I walked out of the hospital with a couple of hours after waking up. Sucks anyway you look at it.

  • Okay... Tomorrow I'm screwed.

  • looks like doctor is having fun

  • With so many over worked and incompetent surgeons in the world today who are nothing more than butchers, what are our chances of having a successful pain free operation? Your guess is as good as mine.

  • OH NO! No, no, no! Back to denial land!

  • Very interesting. Thanks for posting. Knowledge is power. If you are going to have surgery, it will happen whether you know what is going on or not. For my part, I like to know exactly what is going on.

  • I think I can do this. Anyone want to come to Mexico and see me? Give you a discount

  • After watching the one on the new Freedom Inguinal Repair based on a simple implant, you would have to be nuts to do this. The new stuff coming out now is WAY better. I think I will pass on having someone staple something to the inside of my gut

  • After watching the one on the new Freedom Inguinal Repair based on a simple implant, you would have to be nuts to do this. The new stuff coming out now is WAY better.

  • Hey, everybody. Every year, +500,000 Americans are diagnosed with hernias. It's not bad, it's not gonna change your life. 99.99% of the time people'd assume, WHY ALWAYS ME!? You're not alone. Absolutely NOTHING to be afraid of, ashamed of, etc. No worries. It's pretty much as easy to get off your problems as a papercut for doctors. The word, "Surgery" is in NO WAY scary. It's absolutely fine. =)

  • It's not that bad. I have no swelling, and the T3's were rejected by my stomach. I threw up within 5 minutes of taking a T3 and the pill had came up. Therefor I've been completely off medication (1st day) and I don't feel that bad.

The only problem I'm having is slight discomfort whenever I move / shift, but that is to be expected, especially without medication.

  • Honestly I'm so glad I never looked up this stuff prior to my surgery. I had a severe case of this, and by severe I mean it was 3-4 inches displaced. I went in for Surgery and woke up, about an hour after I woke I took a T3 and walked out of the hospital. I've seen a lot of comments with people having some issues, I don't seem to have a single issues (Today is the first day after)

I've been up walking very slowly, been able to go to the washroom, eat, drink, sleep in any position basically.

  • do you feel the stithching in your stomach?

  • wow.....its a good thing i saw this after i did this surgery..

  • Just had it done 4 weeks ago ............ I aint saying nothing

  • shit this sucks i think i have one ; /

  • TERRIBLE VIDEO! I tried doing this to my brother exactly the way they did in the video, and now he wont stop crying.

  • @GrandpaFeathers XDXDXD roflmfaoooo

  • I had this done on Tuesday morning with a general anaesthetic took about an hour to do and back home same day,not too painful,a bit of bruising on the penis and swollen testicle but not too uncomfortable

  • I just had a hernia surgery, and man, didnt think it looked that bad. However the doc said that my hernia was worse then they thought, i have alot of mesh shoved in me now, good video man. For those about to get the surgery, the recovery aint to bad, just dont move and take everything slow..haha.

  • @Ichybutt09 how long did it take for your recovery from hernia surgery to finish? Completely with no pain when you lift and stuff? I just had mine done today, it was also really bad and had mesh put in and I'll tell you, I haven't been in this much pain in a LONG time. I can't even walk. Tried to crawl but that lasted once to the bathroom and back to bed again. I'm seriously immobile lol.

  • @crazybadcuber You can expect to be in pain for as long as foreign material (mesh)is inside.

  • @soldier1980able

well, then that will be forever because the mesh stays in. It's there to reinforce the already weak abdominal wall.

    Shouldn't be painful at all.

  • @RatzoMcFatso You believe the lie, that foreign material(mesh) is right for repair of hernia.Hernia repair with mesh, you can expect to be in pain as long as mesh is inside, doing damage, doing harm.

  • Its a really nice video, but what I wouldn't give for a voice over expalaining the details of what is exactly happening.. e.g. what exact structures are being retracted while the mesh is being placed, is the mesh being placed over the inguinal canal's posterior wall? Etc.. Or maybe you could type a short summary of the sequence of events in the video extra info .. pleeease.

  • Going for this operation tommoro, prob shouldnt have watched this but oh well wish me luck :(

  • at the end of the video the cut looks like a shaved vagina Lol

  • what is a hernia ?

  • @themomo6710 Umm might be something in your Tummy O.O

  • @Aspucka yes! or maybe in your balls to?

  • @themomo6710

Why don't you wiki it you troll? Isn't there a J-lo video you could be watching now?

  • @mrywace Because I wont some advice from a doctor.

  • Consider Shouldice Hospital, Canada for your groin (inguinal) hernia surgery. It's well worth the trip. It's a hospital dedicated to hernias only. The surgeons here are experts in hernias. They perform only hernia surgery. They make far fewer mistakes than general surgeons. Each surgeon repairs 3 to 4 hernias a day, about 60 a month, more than most general surgeons do in a year.

  • Since 1945, Shouldice Hospital says it has done more than 270,000 surgeries, with a reported recurrence rate for hernias of the groin of less than 1%. Recurrence rate is 10% for groin hernias when the procedure is done by general surgeons. That's a number disputed by others, including Dr. Karl A. LeBlanc, president of the American Hernia Society, who puts the U.S. rate between 3% and 5% (still higher than Shouldice).

  • Comment removed

  • Shouldice has been the leader and gold standard in hernia repair surgery. During the 1960s to the 1980s, many general surgeons started adopting the Shouldice or Canadian method. However, many could not duplicate Shouldice's success rate, because the operation is difficult to master without specializing in it. So, they switched to a simpler technique that implants a mesh screen or plug over the weak spot in the abdomnal wall.

  • The mesh patch, which holds back the hernia like a tire patch, has now become the most popular method. But debate continues over which is the better approach. At the Shouldice Hospital, the patient pays about $2,300 to $10,000 typically (2001 prices). Most groin hernia are 1 day operations of outpatients. Shouldice Hospital keeps the patient there for 5 days, to be sure that the surgery is done right.

  • The 5 day treatment at Shouldice Hospital is included in the price: Day 1: patient is examined. Day 2: surgery, using a local anesthesia. Days 3 & 4: observation and light calisthenics. Day 5: discharge.

  • Each year, 11% to 16% of Shouldice Hospital patients come to Shouldice because their hernia repairs performed elsewhere have failed. Patients come here from all over the world. Check out the Shouldice Hospital official website.

  • I just had my inguinal hernia repaired, here in Santiago (Chile). The surgeon told me that he does not use mesh, because it might be rejected. He also told me that there exist biologically made meshes, but they cost about USD1000 each. He repaired my hernia by attaching it to the muscle. I didn't quite follow what he meant by that, how it is done or if it is effective.

  • I just had this same surgery two weeks ago and I'm still very sore. There is different types of hernias this isn't a simple hernia. Yours might be easier, are you sure yours is a inguinal hernia?

  • whats the chance of fatality with this operaton and what holds the mesh in place?

    does the mesh disolve?

Nope, I dont like it...I dont like it at all.

    u a h a hhhuuugh...

  • When ihad my hernia, It was right above my bellybutton. I had pain for about 2 days.

  • they're so rough with it wtf

  • @smithster321 was sayin de same thing.....

  • that looks so clean and perfect....

  • The easiest way is of course surgery!

  • I had this operation done on the 5th Jan, by the 12th Jan I had to go back to hospital for a second operation they took the stitches out and left it drain I got badly infected and nearly lost my life I'm on the mend now having to go Doctors everyday to get my open wound cleaned for the next 2 weeks

  • @DJB3LSHAW that is really scary , how am i suppose to go for operation now

  • @abdx7777 thinkin de same thing. one thing is for sure, i definitely wont want to be awake for my surgery

  • @abdx7777 You're supposed to wait until after the operation until you watch it, like I did! I had mine done yesterday, and to be honest, I couldn't believe how pain-free it was. I had a nice sleep, and woke up feeling relaxed and refreshed. I've had hardly any pain really, it just feels like a slight bruise if I touch it or move too much. I'm sure my experience is more typical of most peoples experience, so don't worry too much about it!

  • @DJB3LSHAW your an idiot for letting it get infected you slob!

  • I had that!

the morning after was the worst pain ever :(

  • @Toxicjazzlove you must not of had very bad pain in your life then

  • i am gaging

  • I JUST HAD THIS DONE, THANK GOD I DID NOT WATCH THIS BEFORE HAND.

I HAVE A ?, IT HAS BEEN 8 DAYS SINCE MY OPERATION AND IM STILL IN ALOT OF PAIN, IS THIS NORMAL?

  • damn! i want to throw up knowing that this was done to me.

  • I am repeating this question to ZorzVascSurg, which I have just asked to Carrel52:

My own inguinal hernia is a rupture which resulted from a successful orchiopexy, which itself resulted from the vas becoming ensnared by the adhesions from an earlier appendectomy.

There is now a lot of complex internal scarring, which will present a lot of difficulty for a surgeon who attempts to repair the rupture.

I am very hesitant to have it done.

Thank you to both of you :)

  • Hello

I have a Inguinal hernia at the right.I'll be operated in 1 or 2 months.I'm 15 and I really like to play soccer, that why my hernia has appeared...I will like to know how many time after my surgery I'll be able to play soccer again and what can i do to prevent that the hernia come back after..Thank you!

  • @prevues i also am 15 and play soccer and have it on the right too. great..

  • i had inguinal hernia surgery last year. i am a vegan. i asked the surgeon to not use animal products on me. are the sutures silk or synthetic?

  • Almost the totality of sutures are synthetic, no animal derived.

  • @Carrel52

    thanks

  • Excellent video. My 79 year old father is going for his tomorrow. Good for him to see what happens. Takes the nervousness out of it..

  • How high is the risk of accidentally cutting off the blood flow to the testicle?

    Thank you.

  • Less than 1% in primari hernias, about 5-7% in recurrent hernias

  • post surgery - wear some tighty whities for a week or 2. there was a lot of bruising and pooling of blood in the scrotum. looked pretty nasty.

  • About how long is surgery time for just a regular stitching, no mesh. Are the surgery costs that different than without the mesh?

  • The surgery time is the same, the cost in increased.

  • Wow that did look easy ! next time I'll just do it myself.

  • i just had a double hernia repair and i didn't have to have a mesh put in either side

  • @ bbrucelong I had a surgery 3 days ago, You ask for bloodless one , its good and famous now days. Good luck!

  • the start looks like a pussy

  • Yeah Ive had two surgerys done one when I was 14 the other when I was 17. For me it hurt alot after it was taken care of.....the pain is pretty bad..I took pain pills that basically knocked me out so I didnt have to deal with the pain. I was laying in bed for about a month after each surgery recovering.

  • I had this surgery on 7/2/07....................thankfully all went well, and the prcess was solid, because I've been moving around, jumoing twisting, turning, lifting ever since! But It's right after the surgery I didn't care for. That whole area was numb, and I couldn't feel "ANY" thing for a while! (wink)

  • @Orbot

    Don't worry, everything is right

  • @Carrel52 Oh you better believe it is!! Lol

  • had mine done on 9/17/10 by Dr. Emmanuel Villalona, from Bayonne, NJ. @ Bayonne Hospital, gret job! great treatment! and great care! from the nurses to the Doctor.

  • had mine done on 9/17/10 by Dr. Emmanuel Villalona, from Bayonne, NJ. @ Bayonne Hospital, gret job! great treatment! and great care! from the nurses to the Doctor. I am hurting right now but I am glad it was caught on time.

I have to thank also the Sims Mngnt, in Jersey City, NJ for the physical request for employment hired, on which the hernia was discovered, soon back to work. =) thanks a million.

  • i've had my inguinal hernia (left side) for just about 3 years and am finally getting it fixed in 5 days (9/21). I cannot wait for this surgery so I will not be in pain anymore, or at least I hope not after I fully recover. Its to the point now where I cant even stand in place for more than like 30 mins without experiencing awful groin pains. Got a good size lump too, oval shaped but about the size of a golf ball. I have been extremely lucky and blessed it never got any worse.

  • Comment removed

  • I have had a right side inguinal hernia done in 2006 and and an umbilical hernia done in June of this year. Today I found out I need my left side done. Going in fri. before labor day. Piece of cake. My last one I had done on a Wed. Stayed out of work on Thursday and went back on Friday. Its a state of mind. Had a total hip done in 2003 and was only out a week of work. I guess if you hate your job it would be more fun to take a month off. helps if you have a skilled Dr.

  • i had a large inguinal hernia and its horrible, especailly for a footballer such as myself

  • I found out I had a hernia a day before I moved to go to grad school. When I get the surgery, how long do you think it will take before I can get back to class? Are we talking days or weeks?

  • @adsteve84

In 7-10 days you can turn back to school

  • I have a hernia Larbi of football

I will be doing my job a month after surgery

  • What is the mesh made of ? Have there ever been cases of an allergic reaction to it? Thats my fear since i seem to be allergic to everything under the sun

  • thanxx carellll....

  • im wonderi what a hernia looks likein your body....i play soccer and run alot and it wont hurt but when i do crunches something pops in the inguinal canal...am wonderinn wat that is...if you know sumthin please let me knoww...bcause after i saw this video i hope its not an hernia...

  • Usually an hernia presents with a more or less evident bulge, sometime is not so evident and you must take an ultra sound examination to get the right diagnosis

  • wow...that...was...errrr....comforting

  • @jordyboy321 i know right =( all that damn tugging did not help at all =/

  • i just had a lower left hernia repair surgery a few days ago, just suffering pain in the incision area. motrin seems to work and just cant do anything crazy for a few weeks or lift anything heavy for a few months. mine was bad, bulging on the lower left side and was going into the left testicle area. great video to get an idea on what was performed on me.

  • patuli nlang mo pra wlay hernia ipaputol ang itlog.

  • ah man i highly suspect i have hernia now im really scared.. lol this video is scary

  • I think I heard somewhere this operation is doable orally now, is that correct?

  • very nice video

  • @gopiraku

    Thanks

  • when is it ok to smoke pot/ drink alcohol after surgery

  • @brzeski09 i'd say well after u've stopped all intake of medication, but u shouldn't go anywhere incase u do something stupid. gl

  • i have hernia too and its not big its about half cm and can you tell me how to remove without surgery..

  • anything but surgery. Sorry

  • @bbrucelong Hey man, You need a prolotherapy injection. I have used it to treat my knee succesfully and had a hernia treatment yesterday. It is an injection straight into the muscle but is hell of alot less painful than surgery. Do your research and the hell with Surgery. Good luck

  • @gwozhog - so if i take prolotherapy injection than hernia will be gone???

  • @bbrucelong Learn to heal it yourself; get a good support truss, look up somatic exercises (good for many ailments, there's videos on U-tube) and take time rebuilding your ab muscles (hernias usually result atrophy or improper breathing) take time every morning working out on your back and perhaps progress to yoga when it gets stronger. I'm having great results.

When you know how to look after your health, there's very little we need from hospitals (or insurance)!

  • @LordeSloth ..when i exercises and lift a heavy object,i think its getting bigger and when i rest its smaller..so can you tell me which kind of exercises do i have to take..

  • @bbrucelong I should mention that I have an inguinal hernia, if yours is somewhere else the treatment may be different, but likely not by much.

You don't want to be lifting weights, pumping iron or strenuous running, at least not for a while. Do abdominal stretching exercises while laying down so that gravity keeps the bulge inside. There are you-tube videos of people demonstrating; search keywords like "somatic exercise" "psoas muscle" and hernia exercise". Experiment to find out what works.

  • @bbrucelong you cant repair a hernia without surgery cuz the abdominal muscles are torn. i have a hernia and i dont wanna get surgery but its not painfull anymore i just push it back it and lay down.

  • @bbrucelong get ur surgery done asap...i waited fr a while n it just makes thngs worse...i had a inguinal hernia but the doctory stiched it without the mesh...i guess d mess repair is more solid but thn u hv a external object in ur body n it can ofcourse get infected...but make sure u dont lift weights for quite a while as d pain can return

  • @sabertooth7777 cn we die because of hernia???

  • @bbrucelong no way unless u r tooo careless..i mean the only time hernia gets dangerous is if u just leave it like that fr too long till ur intestines strangulate and basically d stangulated part dies n causes gangrene..,,,therz is another method whr they just make four holes near d hernia instead of the cut n operate,,,,,but evn a cut is not that long n u shud recover quickly...i dont knw bout you but fr me the pain become unbeareble n swelling n i just had to get operated

  • @sabertooth7777 ok....thnx.....

  • hoe bedoel je ff snel wtf!

  • Good cut!

What happened when mesh rejection occur??

  • It can occur only for the mesh infection. The mesh graft infection rate is very low

  • ciento mucho dolor crei que no era tanto no puedo ni tirerme pedos ni tocer es eu martirio

  • yes. it hurts like hell the firs 2 days!!!

  • i had hernia surgery it was very pinful for first week but after 1 week day by day i feel gone better

  • the mexican doctor can do this surgey ?? is cheap??

  • 1) yes, of course. 2) Idon't know your health service

  • I had Herina Surgrey. They said it was a in and out surgrey. Which it was however i was in the most pain in my life recovering. I couldnt go to the bathroom for a week or walk or sleep laying down. a year later i am happy i got it done but i dont think i would go through that pain again.

  • Is there any way to recover from this condition without the need for surgery? No health insurance. . .you get the idea.

  • Unfortunately not. You are too young to thinking other solutions

  • Bummer. . . It's something I'm going to have to live with until A. I make enough to pay for it, or B. we come up with a solution to "insurance" companies gouging people for coverage. In the mean time I started doing floor crunches to strengthen the weak muscle as I was doing in the past. As I've read about this, it is a weak muscle that is the cause of the condition. I'm just trying to be preventative seeing that it is my only option as of now.

  • im going to take this sugery in about 17 days =)!

  • @psts9 i have to get this done on friday the 12th im kinda scared r u

  • nah.

  • @psts9 ok its done! i was scared of get n put to sleep so i asked if i can stay awake... ma doctor said yea so they jus numbed a large part of ma body so i didnt feel nothing jus a lil tug n....i kinda wish i was asleep bua after it was done it hurt like hell bua now its tha 15 and i dont feel bad jus move a lil slow i feel like a old lady hahahaha....as long as i keep taken this crack medicine hahaha....jk

  • woo! i just came from the surgery and i got put to sleep! naaa, it wasn't so bad =).

  • @terrellhamilton1

I had it done about a month ago. It's sore as hell for the first few days and hard to walk for the first week, but you start recovering really rapidly after that. I'm able to walk just like normal again now,.

  • Good luck! I believe everything will be OK!

  • @gendoff1 thanks it did im coo

  • omg i had this done, i think i am going to throw up

  • if the repair works well you have not to throw up, you must be happy, i think

  • very perfect sir... can u explain the procedures which u r following during surjery......??/

  • The procedure consist in a classic "Basini like" dissection, and a onlay mesh repair using a prosthetic self fixing device.

  • Go to the Shouldice Hospital in Toronto. No mesh. You're in for 4 days, but they sew you up right with stainless steel thread,a and that's the only operaition they perform there. I had an inguinal finxed in late Oct, and highly recommendt them

  • I agree with you, but only in Toronto you can reach these results in hernia repair without mesh.

  • Thank God for healthcare reform. Since no man is an island, I'd rather be surrounded by a bunch of healthy people that can contribute to society than sick ones that can make me ill and sit at home collecting social security for preventable problems. @trl2771: please speak for yourself only.

  • im having the umbilical mesh surgery in a few days :\

  • LOL i was feel n tha same way at first bua tha nursez make u feel comfortable jus stay chill.... its gonna b coo i jus had this done on tha 12th

  • I feel sick

  • free in Quebec!

  • We don't want government run healthcare

  • @Vivito1993

    After a waiting list!!

And youre taxed for everyone else's problems!

    Woohooo

  • Just saw the total cost on my Insurance statement for my out patient procedure. $8100.00 US.

  • im going to do my surgury tommorow ( i wish i didnt see this) lol ^_^

  • Ive had this surgery when i was 7 in 1997 i was in and out of hospital in 11 hrs .

  • i am alos going for my second one soon.

  • 2 days post op. Had Right In-Direct Inguinal Hernia. Open Procedure with Mesh. Closed with Absorbable Sutures w/ dermabond glue. The worst pain was the first morning after, maybe pain level 5. Feeling pretty good now. Surprised to see my scrotum so bruised and swollen. Tight spandex underwear for support has helped a lot. Thats the best advice I can give. Support the Boys down there!

  • What are chances of a recurrence of a hernia?

  • zero, apperently.

  • i got 2 already and they were both on the same side. I think i have it hereditary but not sure.

  • how much does hernia surgery cost????

i dont have insurance and im scared.

    can someone help?

  • in italy the cost is covered by Pubblic Healt System. In private practice it can cost about 3.000$

  • @ZorzVascSurg is that three thousand???, making sure...

  • Yes, of course! About two thousand seven hundred Euros.

  • I had a surgery for my hernia 4 days ago and i just removed my gauze pad over my incision and i checked it today and my surgeon put staples in them. I had a hernia surgery before, by the same surgeon, and he put the strips on the incision. I was wondering are the staples any be
