@mrmartini14b I recommend downloading a mirror. KSP's download server is so messed up. Somebody hosted a mirror on the KSP forums which came from mediafire. I downloaded it there because I was unable ( after 5 tries) to download the game on different computers. It now works...

This tutorial was quite useful! I've now done two succesful Mun landing using both 100km and 200km orbits and the "Mun rising"-rule to time the insertion burn. Now my next goal is to be able to do a return trip. :)

I found an interesting trick! You can get your rocket to a near-perfect 0-degree orbit by firing towards apoapsis once you're in lunar orbit. Makes soft landings MUCH easier, and doesn't eat up much fuel at all. Of course, until the altimeter measures distance to terrain instead of distance to sea level (or equivalent), a soft landing is always going to be stressful unless you somehow land at sea level or equivalent.

Thanks to the lessons your previous videos taught me concerning proper orbiting technique, I was able to figure out most of what you explained here "by the seat of my pants". Watching this did clear up the last few questions I had, though. Like how to effectively avoid using the moon as a catapult to get into solar orbit.

Good to see there's a "shorthand" method; what I tend to do is, I set a heading of 270 degrees, I get an apogee of about 100km, and then burn prograde upon reaching it to enter the mun's orbital vector in retrograde. But that tended to be taxing on my fuel supply, and while I managed to take a shortcut at a few points, that shortcut was mostly based on luck.

Just a tip. The one tank ship will be MUCH easier to control if you press caps lock. That unlocks precision controls and allows you to actually control the damn thing :)

I'd been doing this by mistake! It kind of works to just "try" in KSP. I think the devs put the moon on that orbit so that just about doing a burn, aiming for the moon and hoping for the best does work.
