@Redping2020 could you beat this man in a fight? didn't think so. knowing how to fight plus the mentality attained through learning, puts him at an advantage.
@GetReal38 I may or may not be able to beat this man in a fight. That doesn't have anything to do with how useless this is as a self defense system. it has never had any success in any realm of anything, especially in terms of mixed martial arts, except providing a few grip techniques
@Redping2020 no fighter use only one fighting style, but a combination. yes, its a different from most styles, however that doesn't take away froom its usefulness, cleary you don't know anything.
what kind of judgment is that? Plenty of fighters just use 1 style. There are lots of pure mui thai or pure jiujitsu fighters. The reason there is no pure wing chun figheters is because it just doesn't work in real life. It's a cool eastern martial art that might work against drunk people but will not work against other martial artists. Exactly like akido - impressive in steven segal movies, but you're never going to grab the wrist of someone skilled. Wing chun is one of the least useful
@Redping2020 As a wingchun guy i have to agree with you. the way wingchun is portrayed and taught nowadays, definitely not practical or realistic. The guy will not stand there stiffly as you do fancy moves on him in real life. Chi sau is not achieving much when you train this way.
gotta say tho, if you experience it properly (i.e. no mass commercial bullshit) wingchun is really a superior understanding of fighting that really works. Unfortunateley i only know of 3 sifus who can really explain wingchun in its raw and superior form, and they have not tried to make a name for themselves...
@longfist123 i'l just give you sifu xuan from wcats (.com) his stuff was an oasis for me personally. I finally had true and deep meaning behind what i was doing. I almost quit wingchun until i found him.
@Redping2020 it just doesnt work in real life lol haha , id put my thrust in wing chun over kick en thaiboxing , anytime . I think you should visit our club man , and tell that to our guys . Our club members are all ex aikido , jiu jitsu , jeet kune do , boxing practicioners ,who think ving tsun is vastley superior to what they practiced before. We even had a boxer come to our school and challenge our sifu , sifu didnt need to even punch , just intercepted the guy
@vinni614 and threw the guy out of the school like a baby boy haha. At least two advanced ving tsun men in our school have fought against kickboxers , and they stopped the fight cause the kickboxer got hit in the trouth and , he sayd we were crazy. You need to be careful what you say about ving tsun bro , ving tsun was designed to destroy all other arts. And it does if trained correctly , unfortunatly macdojos are the rule rather than the exeption.
@vinni614 i myself do wing chun and BJJ for the ground , and i dont concider any art worthy to be used in a stand up fight , ecept ving tsun and BJJ for the ground. If you want i can give you a list of schools were you can drop in and pose a challenge.
@GetReal38 agreed, any martial art is only as good as the person using it. i believe if you can adapt the principles of your art you can use it in any situation
i'm sure someone can explain this for me, but i'm watching the part where the guy comes in with the 3 hit combo and sifu uses only one hand to block all 3 hits, i noticed that all the hits are wingchun style punches and they're all down the center line. how does one handle western boxing punches that are hooks and cross with the elbow pointed outside instead of downwards? it doesn't look like those blocks will work against that style of punching
@adamchou You're right. Those deflections will not be used for hooks/crosses. From what I've learned so far, one will use the bottom or top of your forearm to intercept a hook at the inside of your opponents elbow. Or intercept more towards the shoulder, depending on the distance. However, the preference is usually to let the strike pass in order to obtain a better angle/position.
@adamchou Also, the mentality of a WC practitioner is usually if your opponent is not advancing, then you should be. Therefore, theoretically if your are close enough to be struck by hook you should be the one on the offensive driving your opponent into defensive action. Also, tight inside fighting should be a WC practitioner's comfort zone. Easier said then done.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Also I love that dude in the background with the greaser hair cut. . he looks like hes about ready to take his Best Gal to the Malt shop in his Hot rod :)
what if your opponenet is a boxer would wing chun work? as i can see your opponent is also wing chun.. i wanna see if this could also work in other martial arts
@ProStringsify Boxing? I would call this boxing.. but do you mean western ring boxing? My thoughts on this: Absolutely it will work and to great effect! A boxer has a certain habits formed by the rules of his game.. wing chun boxing does not have these habits or rules at all. So I'd say naturally it depends on skill levels, but even with my bad kung fu skills I have used this close range concepts on a boxer and they get all confused very quickly, they dont like it when you get in all close!
@sloppymantis as you can see the guy is only using straight punch.. what if he uses uppercut, left hook, plus side step combination, would he able to block it? im just curious.. oh and boxer does a lot of body movement like waving and throw punches in different angles..
@ProStringsify Good questions! I am no wing chun expert, but.. they will not "block" it.. they will "deflect" it or "borrow" its force. There are not enough characters to fully explain my thoughts on this type of fighting concept. I almost want to make a video to try and share my thoughts.. In any case the movement of the boxer is wasted if confronting a wing chun boxer it leaves them open. WIth Combos or fakes wing chun clings and crowds them. It is a solid system based on scientific methods.
sieht ja super aus, aber der angreifer macht ja immer das gleiche, zeigt das mal im sparring gegen boxer oder ähnliche kämpfer, die sich auch mal bewegen, dann sieht es anders aus...
jesus ive never seen that. did he just knot up his arms? that action was so fluid and smooth, and opened up his left hand to strike anywhere, anyway...
@therealsumtingwong hahah before I read your comment I was just thinking: No one should have taught this gigantic dude or any giant dudes wing chun boxing concepts! they already have enough advantage! This reminded me right away of gary lam.. who is also gigantic dude with wing chun concepts hehe I guess I can now see it in his moevments and words that he has hung out with gary lam :)
