Well there's quite a few to be getting on with, thanks for the suggestions! I'm considering doing an Irish Studies degree or perhaps Celtic studies, which involves a lot of history, so your lessons and some of these books should be a great help in filling in the gaps in my knowledge. Thanks again.

I have next to no knowledge of Irish history, to my shame. Could you recommend any books you have found useful, which are approachable and comprehensive? That would be really good.

Well, concerning the period (16th century) in which Pat's discussing, you could look for the books: _Tyrone's Rebellion_ by Hiram Morgan, _An Exile of Ireland, Hugh O'Neill, Prince of Ulster_ by Micheline Kerney Walsh, _Elizabeth's Irish Wars_ by Cyril Falls, _The Twilight Lords_ by Richard Berleth, _The Great O'Neill_ by Sean O'Faolain.
