  • My English teacher showed me this in class today ptt RONFLMAO XD

  • It's "Phonetic Punctuation" not "Pronunciation" :)

  • I can't understand how people wouldn't find this funny. I guess I feel bad for those who don't get it.

  • @rominato: There was this comedian, the main character in some movie whose name I forget. He makes these hilarious speeches and has everyone laughing their heads off. All except one guy sitting right in front. This guy doesn't show the slightest reaction; just a completely still, expressionless face. Our comedian takes a long look at him and then declares, "This man is dead, but he doesn't know it". The audience goes wild.

Same case here. These guys are dead but they don't know it.

  • "Ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt.... *counts dots* ptt."

    I love that part XD

  • Haha how creative!

  • PBS sent me here...watched something on him Wednesday :)

  • anyone else here 'cause of cakewrecks?

btw, this is really funny, Victor can pull this off without seeming silly

    I love that

  • LOL

  • My language arts teacher sent me :D

  • My language arts teacher sent me here. ;p

  • Regretsy comments sent me here :D

  • huh >>>>> we have almost same way in Jordan<<<<<hahahahahaha(bot)

  • One of the funniest, (and most talented) men who ever lived!

  • he sounds like the Professor from Mickey Mouse

  • I absolutely love this humor... I laugh so hard!

  • @56mikale Except for the fact that's he's not British. He's Danish... Does 'Borge' really sound like a British surname?

  • @MrRWJP for an American maybe

  • 30 people clearly have no sense of humour.

  • @MrInsence You mean 200 years yesterday this guy is in idol three look up three ;)

  • I saw him do this routine on the Dean Martin Show DVD. Classic! Completely hilarious! This is the kind of comedy that I love.

  • @ldominic

It's funny because it is. There is something humorous about the way it breaks things up, about the unexpectedness of it from our regular speech. And sometimes, things are just funny because they are funny.

  • @ldominic its funny because of the sexual connotation of the period noise :D

  • This is fu-nny!

  • And I got to see that without pledging $150 to public television.

  • People sure had big glasses back in the day!

  • God bless all you guys! Real comedy for once!

  • I first saw this in...mid 2010 I think, and it's never failed to make me laugh, no matter how many times I see it!

  • This was the kind of comedy i grew up watching. This is also why i think the stuff today, though sometimes funny, can get tasteless and bad.

  • This is REAL humour. Not crass stuff or people getting hurt. Thank goodness. I needed something funny today.

I'd say 27 people can't recognise proper humour when they see it.

  • @icekat83 Your so right.

  • 27 people don't know what punctuation is.

  • Some of the best comedy ever!!!!

  • This (plick plick plick) is very funny (swish plick) Don(click)t you think so (fwoosh plick) Quoting Billy Crystal (clack) I would say it is (snap) Marvelous (swish plick) (snap)

  • @LoSamZayin If I could vote up a million times for that comment, I would!

  • @BrokenSolitary LOL thanks for the props. I remember seeing him on the Electric Company as a kid, and never really connected him from EC to the stage. He also has a Muppet Show sketch on here that is hilarious. Check it out (swish plick)

  • A clean getaway at the end there... just!

  • 3:40 Lmao

  • :D

  • Fantastic

  • Thank you so much for posting!!! This is a classic!

  • This is real humor, I can watch this oevr and over...

  • This makes me proud to be Danish :)

  • The good Dane

  • i don't think it's really funny to make ppl laugh ass off like that. ok! it's funny but not that much!

  • This is really funny. My teacher looked this up during school because my teacher was using them. It was really funny. videos like this make people want to watch it over again. Good job.

  • Just imagine what Victor Borge would have done with smileys! XD

  • I dun get the last part. The part where he said "no way"

  • @Z4ty10

He means that there is no way he's going to make the sounds of a galopping horse.

  • Hilarious!

  • 3:17

Fsst ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt ptt..... *counts* ...ptt.

    XD

    My favorite part.

  • Was that really four minutes? Felt like twenty seconds. I could watch him over and over again.

  • Who is that at 2:37? She looks so familiar.

  • He was a genius and I had the privilege of see him live in Glasgow. Absolutely brilliant!

  • anyone else ever try to do this in a normal conversation?

  • I have been listening to this guy since I was about three, and I still think he's one of the greatest comedians I've ever heard.

  • Ah that was hilarious!

  • legendary fsssst plp(!)

  • Well whadaya know? It is possible to be hilariously funny without being vulgar. The only trick is you have to be brilliant. Thanks, Stephen Fry.

  • Thanks for the link, Stephen Fry.

  • Stephen Fry sent me here aswell!! x and its really good

  • well all i can say is "Thank the lord that humour has evolved and moved on" nights out must have been dull back then........

  • @markydrive please stop breathing. you'll do the world a favor.

  • Mr Borge has a large repertory of musical, physical and language humour. He is one of my Mother's favourite people. She also likes Benny Hill. Go figure!

  • me too, humor at it's best..

  • This is awesome. This guy is so funny!!!

  • stephen fry sent me here too

  • Stephen Fry sent me here ::D

  • @arrisfilms How, pray tell, did you get here from Stephen Fry?

  • @arrisfilms Did your journey perchance go via the late great Dudley Moore? *kkhkhkhkk pbfut*

  • I remember he used to do this as an addition to the Electric Company!

  • thumb up if Rosianna's tweet sent you here :)

  • My Dad and I used to Phonetically Punctuate our sentences to each other.

  • It's humour because it's beautifully timed and delivered, and the sounds actually have double meanings in the context that they're said.

  • I am doing Phonetics and Phonology as a subject in University and I wish they would show us stuff like that xDD

  • @fratermus

    American???

  • @killerbee570 _ad hominem_?

  • My music teacher told me about Victor Borge when I was young. I thought for a while, then answered with a straight face, "Did his great-grandmother used to poison loads of people?"

  • My high school band director read our judge's critiques to us like this.

  • This is amazing. It almost had me in stitches and proves that pure comedy doesn't need to have all the swear words or shouting that today's society of comedians seem to be fond of doing.

  • Remember him on PBS back around 1979.

  • he was Danish :D named Børge Rosenbaum. im proud of be danish as well, cause that is awesome humor

  • it sounds like he created his own language

  • I always love watching this on PBS.

  • "Getting a bit messy here." ROFLMAO When I first saw this on TV, I laughed so hard I was crying. Especially at the question mark parts :)

  • 2:50 is just hilarious "and caressed her." lmao

  • hahahaha i think he's copying this arabic grammar dude!! except for the fact that this guy is dead serious!! hillarious!!

you have to watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=lF4qii8S3gw

  • At 3:02 I had tears of laughter in my eyes!

  • Reagan actually did this in a speech once. Cool ;-D

  • @jemachri he did? cool!

  • Brilliant, real talent, genuine comedy.

  • I would have loved to see him talk about emoticons. :) ;) :D

  • When he flips through the book...haha

  • I remember seeing this many, many years ago on the TV. It was funny then, and just as funny now. I haven't laughed so hard in years as I have watching this again.

Thanks for the memories of my youth, and posting this vid.

    John

  • 'getting a little messy here'

    I'm dying from laughter.

  • 17 people seriously dislike this?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I grew up with videos of his performances and this made me feel like a kid again. It is still just as funny as I remember it.

  • the ability to extract humor out of something as dry as punctuation is the mark of a real wit

  • @mammers11 oh yeah. i've been wondering what made him come up with this for quite some time.

  • its sad that i say "victor borge" and my friends all say "who?"

im 14, and i absolutly ADORE him. rest in peace, you will be missed my friend.

  • Rest in Peace my friend. I wish we could have performed together :(

  • Being a student of the English language I've studied Phonetics and Phonology, so I just love this piece of work. :)

Here in the Netherlands the only comedians with a style like this were Wim Kan and Toon Hermans... Today it's mainly obscenity or complaining.

  • I can't believe that I actually remember this!

I only saw it once as a teenager (a long, long time ago). When I started watching this clip the memories all came back.

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

  • this guy is classic.

  • My english teacher showed this to the class and we were all in tears laughing at the end......may he rest in peace....♥

  • This always has me ROFLol!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's nice to see real humor, not just making offensive jokes like many comedians now.

  • @Icarus19911991 Actually, if you really think about it, those sounds in the context of the story ARE pretty risque...

  • Victor Borge was truly the funniest comedian on God's green Earth. My family grew up in Yellowknife and I recall him on the very first Electrahome TV (B & W) and we were all in stitches. Truly a cut above most funny men.

  • there is only one thing that I dislike about Victor Borge.. and that's laughing so hard that I think *I'm going to pass out.

  • does anyone know what book he was reading?

  • I was in TEARS laughing by the end - he was a diamond among pebbles. RIP.

  • My whole family would watch him on the Ed Sullivan Show, a zillion years ago, and he entertained us all, regardless of our respective ages. Fortunately there are lots of videos of him on YouTube!

  • My whole family would watch him on the Ed Sullivan Show, a zillion years ago, and he entertained us all, regardless of our respective ages. Fortunately there are lots of videos of him on YouTube!

  • this is even funnier to those of us who do public speaking like teachers, pastors, ...

  • Awww psh ptt The pregnant moth part was cut off psh ptt

  • Can someone add subtitles to this video? I have some problems with understanding spoken English. I will be very thankful and I think subtitles would be useful for lots of people.

  • One thing is for sure, if new generations would see his work, I'm very convinced that people would think higher humorous thoughts. I can't believe I was basically crying when listening to this man. I do want to use his example with some of my students, especially those who are either struggling with grammar and phonetic punctuation. Remember that not everybody learns the same way. We'll miss you Victor Victorious!

  • That's entertainment at it's best... - aha!..? Eugene

  • I actually remember doing those punctuation things in school when I was little to learn the punctuation.

lol Is that an actual book?

  • This guy was such a funny funny man. I remember this from Sesame Street actually. I have always loved this phonetic punctuation. I used to read stories to my kids doing this.

  • I saw him perform many years ago on Chataqua lake in NY. What a classy, funny, talented genius.

  • Victor Borge - The Great Dane! Sweet classical music... and even sweeter comedy! Heaven gained a great angel when Victor crossed the Pearly Gates!

  • You can DIE after you here VICTOR BORGE!!!.............

MASTER COMEDIAN and MASTER CLASSICAL PIANIST .ph-h-h-h-h-h-t-t-t--pt-t-t-t-!!!!!!

  • I thought it was a didactic video.

  • I love this, its so funny. Makes the story sound real romantic, LOL.

  • how can this get 16 dislikes?

  • @Guroftw 16 thats an outrage it should be 0 dislikes

  • @lymonguy2441 ikr

  • This is a classic. I have had this in my favorites for two years and watch it all the time. RIP Victor.

  • I almost spat out my Pop XD

  • omgg i love thiss! soo funny x3

  • Yeah, it is refered to that and all the people get it, include the people in the video that are laughing xDD.

  • brilliant pshh ptt

  • haha.. the part with him eating the pregnant moth got cut off

  • " quotation of 2 commas *click-click*,

or if you happen to be left-handed,

    *inverted click-click*"

  • mine too

  • I wish this man was still around, you don't hardly see humor with class these days, I'm convinced my generation has it all backwards. This is the good stuff

  • agree... *sigh*~

  • It is funny. A little surreal too.

My dad would make crazy noises like this, but without the talent and comedic skill. Now I realize that this is where he got the idea.

  • 3 words Igudesman and Joo; I'm rather sure you'll like their style. They're not Vicotr Borge but they have a very unique style to musical comedy.

  • Agreed!!!! They are just as amazing in their own way. Definitely worth checking out.

  • @Ardeus24 I completely agree with you. I'm sixteen now, and in the last two years or so I've heard a lot of comedians (though two years might not seem like a lot), and I can easily say that none of them were anything like this guy.

  • @Ardeus24 I agree!

  • @Ardeus24 I agree with you. I enjoy the tasteless, inappropriate humor, and the blue collar comedy, but there classy comedians are a dying breed.

  • @Ardeus24 I agree. I love the occasional tasteless humor and blue collar comedy, but classy comedians are a dying breed.

  • I enjoyed it completely in 1955 the first time I saw it in black and white. Now I am a retired elementary teacher, and it's just as funny today.

    Bill

  • my teacher made us watch this

  • does anyone know the book he is reading from???

  • He is not reading the book - it is just a prop. He has learned his routine off by heart.

  • his real name is børge rosenbaum, and hes a dane, just like me! ;D

  • @LOCUkDk

and me ;D we love him right :D

  • What it makes him funnier is the fact that he is seriuously dresses up -like a aristocratic pinguin- as a genius orchestra director, and in contrast he is a well suitted comic actor. He created his own sketches and sounds Very unique personality. He is funny!

  • I wonder if a Kalahari Bushman could understand this?

  • When he says "it's marked so I can't miss it" the audience laughs uproariously - why is this? I don't get it! Is it just because he's taking so long to find it?

  • He couldn't find it, and as you can see he was flipping towards the back of the book, when he said it was was somewhere up front. This is called "IRONY" or something like that.

  • Exactly. You had it. XD

  • I don't think they were laughing about that.. you see that pause right after he says it? it might've been cut and put together, leaving out the little part right after he said that.

  • Well exactly YouVRay, that's what confused me. Never mind though...

  • it's punctuation, not pronunciation ;-)

  • A question mark---KCCCCCCCC ppp.

  • The video is too slow and doesn't match the audio. Too bad, because this is one of the funniest bits in comedy ever.

  • Rip Good ol Victor. You fun with classical music and jokes with grammar I have missed for such a long long time.
