A nonCatholic reverend I have all the respect for is:Dr. Robert Schuller. I listened to one of his sermons and he made it clear about the Catholic belief of praying. He said that at the time God delivered the 10 commandments, the Egyptians were worshipping images of falcons, golden calves and other earthly beasts. Again, Catholics don't worship the heavenly statue they pray in front of, they pray to the soul of who it represents: Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Moses etc.

And as she did when Gabriel announced her that she would give birth to a Son, as a good christian also, John kept His Word by receiving her as such. Jesus' request to John is also His request to us, because His Word is universal. And, as good christians also, we keep the Lord's Word.

I grew up Roman Catholic. All my life I was immersed in stories of the Blessed Mother. Especially living in an Italian/Catholic neighborhood. A very common topic of conversation. I can remember being very little when the movie "The Miracle of Fatima" came out. Almost the entire neighborhood went to see it. We were all excited. We all wanted to know the Big Secret! And as she did when Gabriel announced her that she would give birth to a Son, as a good christian also, John kept His Word by receiving her as such. Jesus' request to John is also His request to us, because His Word is universal. And, as good christians also, we keep the Lord's Word.

I am going to answer your question, penny: He feels mercy for the ignorant. No one can save but Jesus; Mary can only intercede for those who asks her to do so. However, we do bow (not down) to her image in respect for our Saviour's mother.

When the Holy Spirit, through Elizabeth, told her she it was a honor to be visited by the Lord's mother (Luke 1:43). In Matthew 12:48, Mark 3:33, and Luke 11:28 He said to be like her: by keeping His will (Luke 1:38). He honored her when dying by commending her to John, to care for her as it she were his own mother (John 19:27). If that is not to honor her,...? You read those, haven't you?

Any images of our Lord and Savior Jesus or of His Blessed Mother Mary or of any Saints can be likened to family photos. They bring to mind our Heavenly family:) These images are respected because they are images of God, our Blessed Mother, and Saints- those that we respect and honor. We believe in the Trinity- God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the ONLY God that Catholics worship.

Furthermore, we do not ask Mary to "save" us. She is the Mother of our Lord. We ask her to INTERCEDE for us, to pray for us. We can also ask the Saints to intercede/pray for us. Ever ask any of your friends/family to pray for something for you? Same thing, but because Mary and the Saints are in closer communion with God, they just might hold a little more clout;) And, yes, we can and DO pray directly to Jesus/the Holy Spirit/God the Father. When it comes to prayer, the more the merrier=)

I grew up Roman Catholic. All my life I was immersed in stories of the Blessed Mother. Especially living in an Italian/Catholic neighborhood. A very common topic of conversation. I can remember being very little when the movie "The Miracle of Fatima" came out. Almost the entire neighborhood went to see it. We were all excited. We all wanted to know the Big Secret! Then the Song of Bernadette on tv. Now I know that Satan comes as an Angel of Light! He surely can fool us!

Mary heard the word of God and kept it. Not enough to be the mother of our Lord, but to hear and heed His word as she did. And, of course, all believers, as our Blessed Mother was, are as her. You mean to tell me that your sect, among other small sacrifices, doesn't practice fasting? Because I know many separated brothers that do fast in order to convert sinners. What kind of sect do you belong to, or is it that you ignore that practice? It is not only catholics who make sacrifices but many protestants as well.

Contradicts Scripture? apparitions occur frequently in the Bible. Old Testament shows many angels as messengers of God's doom or favor. In the New Testament it is reasonable that Mary is the Messenger of Christ's return. considering the holiness that angels said she possessed herself, and her being the TRUE human messenger of the Son of God in the flesh.

The truth is, many are believing in these lies "apparitions from heaven!" This is not God's way; God reveals Himself in hearts of people! He doesn't prove His existence outwardly exp: "apparitions!"..that is satan's way...God works in hearts of people who are humble and willing to surender to His will! I was a catholic, but now am a born again Christian! I had a beautiful picture of Jesus; but Jesus revealed to me in a dream that behind that "beautiful face, is satan; for I saw satan in it!

Who are you to say determine way God reveals himself to people? God reveals himself through many different ways- although, to know God, one has to open his/her heart to Him and dedicate his/her life to him. We may all know God is here (though some may choose not to believe it)- but the real cincher is accepting God as Lord. God is in everyone, and therefore, works through everyone- some people are resistant. God doesn't pick who he will work through- as the Holy Spirit is in us all.

John 19:26-27: "Jesus said to his mother, 'Woman, this is your son.' Then he said to the disciple, 'This is your mother.'" This passage is a Spiritual one - it has a Spiritual overtone to it. Why? Well, this passage isn't just about St. John taking care of Mary physically, but it is of a Spiritual order. John is now a "Son" of Mary, & Mary is now a "Mother" of John. This goes along with the whole Queen Mother Theology. Ask yourself: Jesus had relatives in town, so why entrust Mary to John?

Part 2 - Again, if Jesus' relatives (Jude, Simon, James, etc.) were in town, then why did Jesus entrust Mary to a 'Son of Zebedee'? A weak answer would be, "Well, John was loyal to the end, so he was rewarded with the honor of taking care of Jesus' mother." Again, weak. If Jesus looks at St. John & says, "This is your Mother", then this must mean something deeper. Answer: Jesus is about to die and rise again, he will be crowned in heaven "King of Kings", and Mary is the Queen Mother of us all

An angel appeared to Peter & an angel released him from chains. So I ask again, why do you think that Angels or Saints or Jesus himself can't appear to people in 2010? Or 1968? Or 1917? What's even your evidence that this is demon. I actually enjoy how you said it at all. Yes this apparition was indeed cited @ history and nobody disproved it because exactly hard core evidences. and compelling. Not because you're against the church doesn't mean it was a demon. So first of my church is original since it goes way way back 1AD. The early Christians or the the church fathers suggested only Catholic scriptures which are the original ones.
