  • Katrina your out of your element !

  • My cousin, Erika, is in New Orleans right now helping with house building or whatever else needs helped with. She goes a few weeks after school ends and comes back a few weeks before the start of the new school year. She does it every summer and has been post Katrina. God love her!!

I help with sending money since I'm not able to fly out with all my disabilities. So, I help moneywise and also send things like clothes and everything else like that with Erika every year to New Orleans. New Orlea

  • John Goodman is great!!

  • when I watch TREME i get inspired and pick up a guitar and jam along with the whole show. as a result: i guess i miss the drama element.

    this ...

  • man made castrophe? that's stupid

  • The sad thing about this is that few people I know who have watched this are not taking it literally. I mean, David Simon is trying portray a vivid and realistic picture of what is and has happened to New Orleans. Too many people I know have watched it, saw it as a story and brushed it off their shoulder. Creighton Bernette, I dig your style.

  • Anybody else from New Orleans find this show a little Hokey?

  • New Orleans has a rich history and also has a history in store that has yet to be written. This California boy loves you people and the city and all it stands for.

  • What was done was Democratic Under the table corruption Period

  • @wbradss Clearly no republican fuckups. You idiot.

  • Give John Goodman an Emmy!

  • Got no argument with what Goodman says but why couldn't Simon make the reporter an American from one of your real networks, instead of some bullshit straw man from "British Cable News"?

The British media covered the Katrina disaster sympathetically and, as far as I can see, more closely than many American news outlets who were busy protecting their political affiliates. Don't try to pin bad reporting on the British. We're the world leaders in liberal elite AKA quality media. (NB BP is 50% US)

  • @Nndroid1 Absolutely agree - that British reporter doesn't ring true at all - the news coverage of Katrina, and New Orleans culture in the UK has always been sympathetic, and from this clip it looks like that character was just written in to be blown away by Goodman's righteous fury - why make a Brit such an obvious scapegoat?

  • @Nndroid1 better than american but nah we're not exactly 100% quality

  • @Nndroid1 British media will ask real questions that question peoples intentions. There is a youtube video of a British show interrogating David McCandless on his visualizations, another of a late night host taking jabs at Eminems street-cred for wearing a silly hoodie. American media doesnt do justice to news stories, they will seldomly confront their subjects on substantive facts; especially popular subjects.

But I agree. The Brit could have instead been an incomptent smiley US reporter

  • David Simon is a genius

  • I must say I really love John Goodman's character on "Treme"; he goes in and just lets loose about the situation in New Orleans. He's one of the ones that makes the show for me.

  • My only critique of the show is that it is too politically correct. There is an element of deep seeded racism that the show doesnt show. It doesnt show the the caliber and desparity of the improvished in the city and especiially those from the Treme area. For example, I just saw a scene in a Tulane classroom where most of the students were black where in reality the school is 80% white mid/upper class. The music is the most accurate part of the show.

  • @csimo13 Not only is Tulane mostly white, most of the students are from another city

  • ahhh middle aged people. they're adorable

  • I worked for Tulane and was on the Emergency Response Committee with state and feds working out "worse case scenarios" when they were building the Sheraton and the Westmark. They prepared for when the levy broke by "a ship's rutter" coming down the Mississippi; the city would build hotels with the first SEVEN STORIES expendable IN CASE OF FLOODING!

  • Nothing was done to those Levees.

Now look at those hundreds of people that died.

    Thank you government....thanks for nothing.

  • IMHO HBO should come out with a public statement allowing bars in Katrina-affected areas to do public screenings. They show Treme at 9pm on Sunday night which hurts local venues and musicians, if we sit at home and watch Treme - how are our local bars are going to make money on Sunday nights?

  • im gonna reserve my opinion about this show. The Wire will be hard to match

  • @Jimmy42118 If you compare everything new David Simon does to the Wire than chances are your gonna be disappointed. Enjoy Treme for Treme and don't think about the Wire's quality while you watch it unfold. PS I watched the Treme pilot and it looks promising.

  • All anyone has to do to see the problem is follow River Road as it meanders through New Orleans. For the entire length of the river, there is only one building built on the wrong side of the levee... The Army Corps of Engineers

  • Is it true that HBO does not allow NOLA bars to show the series? I went around a block - and that's what I hear from bartenders. If this it true - they just used us.

  • @IrinaNOLA I have heard no reports that HBO does not allow NOLA bars to show the Treme series.

  • @LeveesOrg

What I've seen discussed over at the T-P's website is that HBO has a general policy of not allowing their channel to be aired in commercial settings like bars and restaurants because they do not want to lose subscription money. It applies to all of their subscribers, not just NOLA bars.

Evidently, though, the people who work for HBO are not assholes like the people who work for the NFL. No one has dispatched lawyers with cease and desist orders.

  • @ls1z28chris Thank you for this information. It sounds like HBO would prefer people subscribe and watch at home, but understands there are benefits to 'looking the other way' if some bars and restaurants offer viewing parties.

  • Please Fire the Corps of Engineers,>>> They are Still throwing ROCKS in the river for flood protection !!!!! That WAS proven Ineffective, Right???? Stop the Waste of our tax money and Hire the Dutch Experts in Flood Protection before we All Drown

But, who cares, right. We haven't noticed any substantial Flood Protection. Let's begin a DEMONSTRATION NOW. Protest, Protest, Protest Everyone is invited!!!

  • I beleive Goodman is a shill, diverting attention away from blown levees to the corp of engineers. Ask yourself why the pumps were shut down?

So if he is "so with the people", why hasn't his hollywood career been blown up?

After all, hollywood makes movies to discredit truth that gets out.

  • @slowfinger2

I spent a year in Iraq dealing with an asshat E-9 who sent a Sgt to me every time a door slammed to find out if our base was under rocket attack. For two weeks he talked shit about SCUDs in the 1st Gulf War. A few rockets later and every loud noise is an explosion.

The moral of the story is that not everything people think is an explosion actually is an explosion. Sometimes they are doors slamming. Sometimes they are gigantic barges crashing into concrete.

  • @ls1z28chris

Well you have a good point. But I cannot believe a storm surge strong enough came from a hurricane that turned aside before it hit. Show me the EXTREME wind damage over the rest of N.O. How can all the protection fail at once? There is too much convenient stuff happening. Goodman is for damage control or more rightly to damage the reputation of the army. Seen any of that going on elsewhere, eh?

  • @slowfinger2 More than 98% of the Army Corp of Engineers is civilian employees.

  • @slowfinger2

You sound like the 9/11 truthers. "How could everything fail at once?" Because the government isn't a magical entity. It is a group of people just like any other, except more prone to corruption and mismanagement because government bureaucracies, like the Army Corps of Engineers, are unaccountable to the people.

  • This is an accurate video about what happened in New Orleans.

  • Congratulations ! Does anyone know the name of the song used in the beginning of this clip?

  • @owenslv SOng is TREME by John Boutte

  • Excellent!

Its great that some celebrities (STARS), will get off their OSCAR pedestals, and join the likes of; Penn, Sheen, McCarthy & Carrey; to name just a few.

The reality right now, is that the most dangerous opinion in the world is the opinion of a U.S. Serviceman - Lance Cpl. Devin Kelly.

Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.

    Elvis Presley.

Nothings more deadly to a creature of illusion and obscurity, than light and clarity - Ayn Rand.

  • How distressing that we get more valid information from a tv show than we can expect from the news media. Propaganda reigns in commercial news.

  • Right On. Treme is wonderful and John Goodman has it right. The Corps of Engineers Failed!!

  • Well Done John Goodman, speaking up for these poor people who lost everything.

This should have been sorted out years ago.Good luck with your campaign to show

the bastards whose fault it was. Also I hope you get your compensation,If the greedy

schyster Bankers could claim expenses after dragging down the Wests economy you should be well paid for your tragedy.

  • We know they did it!!

  • I'm increasingly persuaded the country is ruled by an powerful elite which has no interest in the destiny of classes lower than their own. The Rockefellers, Duponts, Rothschilds, and their social group regard the people as servants, if not slaves. If a revolution is necessary, as Thomas Jefferson said it would be, then I'll be there. New Orleans has been a laboratory for this elite, and I'm tired of their games.

  • I'm sorry, as much as I love'em (John Goodman) my fellow St Louisian, I now and forever will believe the levees were Blown. Just as it was in the past. What about the people on Chanel 4 interviewed that said they heard a LOUD BOOM. The levees just so happen to break in the poor neighborhood...AGAIN! They admitted they blew it years ago to protect the richer communities. History repeats itself. How many times are we going to fall for that crap. We're smarter than that people.

  • Awesome mix of tv and real peeps. And, oh yeah, the real story. John Goodman throwing the mike. Classic.

  • Okay, having identified the culprit - Corps incompetence and/or negligence - what is our course of action? Do we complain, and wait for the next hurricane and the next mass casualty, or do we take our affairs into our own hands? We Americans are becoming better at recognizing that the Feds are not our friends, but do we have the courage to say "I'll do this myself" and accept the cost?

  • @piolenc By federal law, the people of New Orleans are forbidden from 'taking affairs into our own hands" By federal law, only the US Army Corps of Engineers can design and build flood protection for New Orleans. Only Congress can change that.

  • @LeveesOrg

What is your State attorney general's position on this? He has standing to sue to regain control and the NO district attorney may have standing as well to seek damages. The real question is whether your state or local officials want to accept responsibility for it. Some may rather let NO flood again than be the ones on the hook for it.

  • @owensaruba There is no credible properly documented study or evidence that the state or local governments were responsible (or liable) for the failure of the flood protection structures in New Orleans.

  • Perfect!!! Accurate!!! This is what needs to get out there. John Goodman was right on. Thank you.

  • BRAVO JOHN GOODMAN U WEAR YOUR NAME WELL SIR, I APPLAUD U,

U DID A GREAT THING 4 THE JUSTICE OF NEW ORLEANS, IT SEEMS THAT SO FEW PEOPLE ARE WILLING 2 SPEAK ON THEIR BEHALF (sorry if I make some mistakes, I'm a french woman, thanx) & 4 THE NEWS JERK MAN, HE'S NOTHING BUT A \@#$%?& RACIST, THAT'S WHAT HE IS, TALKING SHIT LIKE THAT, WHAT A MORON, GOD BE WITH NEW ORLEANS PEOPLE I LOVE U ALL MY BROTHERS & SISTERS HANG ON TOUGH & NEVER LOOSE HOPE THAT'S HOW U WIN DA WAR...

    ^Batcat^

    xoxoxox ^v^

  • What is this?

  • When does this show air on HBO?

  • @egreenspot The show will air every Sunday at 10pm EST

  • Yeah U Rite!! John Goodman aka Creighton Bernette tells it like it is. "The flooding of N.O. was a man made catastrophe, a federal f*** up of epic proportion."

  • Accurate portrayal and description of what happened in the flooding of New Orleans!

  • Five words to Creighton Bernette....Tell it like it is.

Creighton gets it, John Goodman gets it and now we just need the Federal Government - the US Congress - to "get" the need for a full independent review, an 8/29 Investigation, of the various failures of structures that caused The Federal Flood of New Orleans.

  • @theagent9 go away.

  • @nolajam I can go away but the issues facing America won't. But the bastards trying to remove our freedoms and our ability to live and prosper will not leave. They have done this for at least 3000 years. This is who Jesus got violent with in Mark 11:15-19 when he threw the money changers (jews) out of the temple. He was kill by the same group weeks later. So was Lincoln, Garfield & Kennedy & Polish Officials. They moved to stop the shylocks from killing thru financial enslavement. WAKE Up & READ

  • Wonderful! Sandy said it best - the character's message was ACCURATE. I'm so glad to see this message being delivered to the world through this show, but I hope it is taken as the truth that it is and not marginalized in any way.

Protecting New Orleans is not only justified, but it would be unconscionable not to.

  • @tommybarresi request to grow up, please. Or wait! You work for the ACE, perhaps??

  • I love his character in this show, and I love that the producers of this show have the courage to tell the truth. The more we talk about it, hopefully the more support we can get. New Orleans needs to work towards getting more of the money and help it is owed.

But let's also not forget to fight for coastal restoration projects, without them we are in danger as much as if the levees failed again.

And as a NOLA resident, I love the show and recommended it to friends!!

  • It made me sad all over again. As sad, and as frustrated as the angry people depicted in the film, (and those commenting on the video). There are so many issues like this. There are so many injustices in our country. I suggest that we pick just one that really angers and frustrates us. Then, let us work on that single issue, without violent words or actions, but with energy and hard work, never forgetting to treat others as we would like to be treated. More work, but better results.

  • "A cynic might note that most the people of Louisiana are Republicans who want the government to stay out of their business." Most of the people in Louisiana do not live in or near New Orleans, but all of the people in Louisiana, even the Republicans, benefit from the metro New Orleans economy and taxes.

  • I saw the first episode and I was very impressed. It was fabulous! If only the entire country could see this. This is exactly what happened in New Orleans under the Bush administration, and it was covered up by the media. What else is being covered up by our "liberal media?" Torture, corruption, fraud, domestic spying on us all by our government? What else? This is definitely "must see TV!"

  • A cynic might note that most the people of Louisiana are Republicans who want the government to stay out of their business. Apparently their elected officials gave them what they wanted. No wonder their levees were left unattended and no wonder why when Katrina hit the government was nowhere to be found in their time of need.

  • God damn sleazeball politicians!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • the wealthy wanted the land.. they let it flood and did nothing for weeks and it is still not fixed even tho brownie was doing a heck of a job.. the bush family have been and always will be evil.

  • @navtel Brownine's doing a good job? BULLSHIT. His whole fuckin' campaign was based on a lie. You keep his idea of change and stick it in your ass, pal.

  • @warloc20

As a New Orleans native I thought the HBO Treme program was a banal interpretation of post Army Corps of Incompetent Engineers New Orleans. Very unimaginative writing with a one dimensional dialogue while not to mention a heavy dose of Blacksploitaion added for good measure. I fear this TV series will be yet another tool used by the Babylonian Brotherhood to divide our community.

Loved Goodman's denouncing of the Feds and Kermit being Kermit.

    And warloc, go fuck yourself.

  • @warloc20 is a fucing imbecile

  • @warloc20 Did you forget your medication this morning?

  • What's the point of staging that? Treating something so serious by falsifying an interview is stupid. the only truth represented here is Goodman's ego.

  • @dharmashooter you are misinformed. Losses in NOLA would have been minimal had the floodwalls not failed when the height of the storm surge waters was still many feet below the tops of the walls. The levee failure investigation reports, even the Corps', and federal courts have all determined the levee failures were due to gross negligence by the USACE. This is fact. warloc20 - please note after loosing our home to that flood, we rebuilt on our lot, but well above the 2005 flood line.

  • The Brit reporter appears challenging, but just gives Goodman the perfect opportunities to respond as a pro-American, pro N.O., and one who sees the government as the sack of godamned lying snakes that they are. Makes me think they have known each other's questions and responses for a while - which is fine by me.

  • Accurate? I guess you weren't back by then, or didn't see it as bad Up Town.

Where is the Garbage piled to the sky, the Guard, the Curfew, the Cough?

Lemon Ice and Hubig Jazz, that's what we are,

If you say "it is New Orleans" then I suppose that will make it so.

Many of us cannot afford that kind of memory.

    Who'dat?

    Editilla~New Orleans Ladder

  • excellent! DEFEND NEW ORLEANS!!

I can't wait to watch more Treme.

  • Oh, yeah, Goodman! Truth telling has never been so ON! He's not acting, he's speaking the truth! LOVE IT! So glad this series is on HBO. Too bad it took nearly five years... better late than never...

  • A thousand times YES. What will it take to open minds and hearts for New Orleans?

  • Perfect. I would have thrown the reporter's mic in the canal too. His questions were obnoxious.

  • I sadly don't have HBO so I'm thrilled to see this clip of Treme. I live in NYC but my gut instinct is there are more people than not who lived through Katrina who would agree with this assessment by Goodman's character. Bravo to HBO and all the actors in this new series. The truth will prevail.

  • A brilliant, accurate representation of the truth

  • All pro John Goodman is also a pro spokesperson on the true cause of the metro New Orleans Flood.

  • A brilliant representation of the truth
