i have a question. i've been watching ufc for a long time, but i've always wondered, does a fighter go to different gyms while training for a fight or does he work with one trainer. because i thought thiago trains at ATT and once i saw gsp walk out with firas zahabi AND greg jackson. now i thought gsp trained with greg but i also saw a video of him train with firas? ???

ok i understand that in combat sports you need to be aggressive or you're not gonna win the match, that being said though, I feel it is unneccesary to try and kill someone. i mean come on ppl this is a human being were talking about. i dont know what kind of sick person would feel proud of themselves and accept a cash award for killing someone thats just sick and i like gsp and thiago but still...
exactly. The fight just showed how far of a lvl GSP was compared to Thiago. But at the same time it showed the amazing phyiscal attributes of Alves. It was a big fight for both fighters and the fact it went 5 rounds proves that it wont be the same outcome in the second meeting. I have high respect/hope for any fighter who can effectively take any p4p skill lvl fighter 5 rounds, dominant or not.
I like a lot of fighters, at Welterweight Shields, St Pierre, Fitch, Alves and Diaz.
When GSP said Jake Shields was a dream fight, like Fedor vs Lesner and "Jake Shields is a tough guy..I think he would beat me in a grappling match, but I think I could beat him in MMA, but there is only one way to find out."
I thought it was cool that he was honest, Shields grappling, which is BJJ and wrestling combined is the best in the sport.

lol, i just answered ur first question about what other elite fighters havent done that Thiago has and that was put him on his back, dats all. As far as a second meeting Thiago can win if he makes a transition in style. Make GSP the aggressive fighter and stay out of his pace. This will limit the takedowns and give Thiago the time to start the fight at his pace, and engage without gsp second guessing his moves. But greg jackson is a master gameplanner so i could be wrong... o well.
Alves is a Muay Thai fighter do to heavy knees, hard leg kicks, and elbows. Just stated what the fighters u said were world class couldnt do in a while, and that was put GSP on his back. And if Alves knew his game plan then he sure didnt follow thru with his. All im saying is if he had another crack at it he could have done much better. The guy literally give up his back, and many weak spots but got up from every takedown, how many fighters u see get up from a takedown from GSP?

i feel that gsp staying at 170 does the ufc no justice. thiago was the last formiddable opponent at that division. silva is 34 yrs. of age, but thats still young. hes in his prime right now. and even if he isnt around, theres still monsters like bisping, hendo, etc..those fights would be more entertaining than a fight with swick or kampmann. btw, no diserespect to either fighter.

think about it: whos at 185? answer: 3 monsters: silva, hendo, bisping, etc....2 of those guys are 6'2 and 1 is 5'11. in the 170 division the tallest guy is prob 5'10. that division compared to 185 is small. the 185 division has guys that can pack more muscle cause of their larger body frames. at 170, they cant do that. gsp and alves is as big as it gets at that weight.
if gsp goes up in weight he'll have to fight silva, hendo, or bisping. thats why he wont go up. lets take hendo for example--who is a great wrestler. do u think gsp will dominate him in the wrestling department and hold him down for 5 rounds?? very unlikely. gsp stays at 170 cause he can dominate the competition using his wrestling skills. but he knows he cant do that at 185. peace out.

GSP will have to break Alves little by little with his versatile skills because Alves is a beast. Alves has good takedown defense but GSP is 80% on takedowns and his guard passing is the best in MMA so I don't see Alves being able to handle himself on the ground with GSP.
I think Thiago will edge out a decision, he'll rock GSP early on and then from there it'll be a chessmatch on the ground. He is too much to deal with but it all depends on GSP's gameplan, cause we all know how skilled GSP is, right?

Alves didnt put GSP on his back... it's GSP who was on him try a sub and get reverse on the ground. Same thing happen against Fitch.

if gsp goes up in weight he'll have to fight silva, hendo, or bisping. thats why he wont go up. lets take hendo for example--who is a great wrestler. do u think gsp will dominate him in the wrestling department and hold him down for 5 rounds?? very unlikely. gsp stays at 170 cause he can dominate the competition using his wrestling skills. but he knows he cant do that at 185. peace out.

penn is originally a lightweight. he moved up to ww 4 the first time (in the ufc) to fight hughes 4 the ww title. penn won. however, the title was taken away cause penn wanted to fight in the ufc and outside the ufc. dana white said no....and the ww title was taken away. penn has held both titles....just not at the same time.

What fight were u watching because Thiago did not win the fight, lets be honest GSP impossed his will against Thiago n made him fight his game taking away from where he wanted to be. Thiago's a great fighter n very xciting to watch he just wasnt on the same level as GSP. GSP is P4P best fighter in the world in my opinion. He is so versatile in that it is difficult to find a weakness or chink in his armor. No doubt Thiago is a force to be reckoned with but he met a better fight on July 11, 2009.

well they are not in the same league so it's kinda hard to compare but both Fedor and GSP proved that they are the best p4p fighters in the world and i put them as equal on top. That's what he was trying to make people believe which is partially true but Silva did not try to go on the ground with him annd beat rua at his own game, he just stood up with both of his arms lifted to show the crowd that he's not the one that's being a pussy, it's Rua..Even Dana White said that he was ashamed of Silva in this fight.. He fights now but he's too afraid to lose so he's way to cautious and it gives us one hell of a boring fight.

GSP will go to sleep if Alves hits him on the button, he almost went to sleep from getting hit from Matt Serra who is 5ft 7, Alves is gonna be like 190lb after he hydrates.
GSP will have to break Alves little by little with his versatile skills because Alves is a beast. Alves has good takedown defense but GSP is 80% on takedowns and his guard passing is the best in MMA so I don't see Alves being able to handle himself on the ground with GSP.
I love both fighters! This is a nervous fight!
