  • Thanks for sharing. Good tips. And your responses are even more awesome. I would hire you in a minute.

  • thanks for the video! i just got done taping my room off and this will be my first time painting a room so thanks for the tips for us newbies! :)

  • I find that useful because I'm going to paint my room... But how good is the drop thing how strong and does it soak through

  • @hallie2131 Thanks. If you use regular bed sheets or similar, the paint will soak through. If you buy real drops, you won't have a problem. Be sure to watch the rest of the video on my website...this is only the introduction. Blessings!

  • /watch?v=a0CtnDkWAqM

  • Do you put plastic underneath the cloth drops? I'm just worried that the paint may soak through the cloth and mess up the carpet.

  • @MsCOWES You ask a good question. No, I don't put plastic under the drops. The drops I use are those that you buy at a hardware or paint store. The paint doesn't soak through the drops unless you dump a bunch of paint on them. If you use a sheet or similar material, the paint will soak through very easily. I recommend getting some "real" drop cloths. Also, don't cover the floor with plastic in place of cloth... things tend to get messier. The paint stays wet and you track it all over the place.

  • Professionals do this a bit faster.. I do this for a living and you are not really pro (here in holland that is) if you roll a wall that slow and in unstraight lanes.. I dunno what work paste you people have there.. but as for here that was average.. And no, i do cover off the floor and everything else that shouldnt be painted.. if you wonder, i am 23 and painting for over 6yrs now, still a rookie tho if you compare me to the real all-round professionals, or as i like to call them, veterans.

  • @Sentello87 I'm sure you are a much better painter than me, but I painted for a living for several years. I'm rolling slow because I'm making a movie...talking at the same time, demonstrating technique. I didn't make the movie to show off. In all reality, I made this video so I wouldn't have to keep telling all my friends over and over again how to paint. It saves me a lot of time to just send them the link to this video. I'm sorry if you don't consider me to be "professional" like you.

  • @tbed63 I was going to say the same thing. Trying to talk, and think of all the things you've already covered in your head, and paint at the same time would make it difficult.

Great video though m8, I will watch the rest tomorrow. I've done a bit of painting in my time, but being 20 and using cheap equipment it's a tedious job. I have learned my lesson about quality items and covering carpets/flooring. I remember when all I had was a small brush and a 4x4m room to paint. I managed to do it lol.

  • can i paint the bedroom with an oil based paint to avoid a condensation?

  • @mnb222 you would trap moisture that must get out somewhere and it could pop large sections of interior paint off. Try venting under the house or outside walls somehow to let out moisture

Water base paints do breath out moisture vapor , oil does not

  • @basracer thank u very much *****

  • Wow, I Wish You Could Just Come To England And Paint My Whole House For Me :D

  • when I paint by roller, sometimes I can not get even gloss, i want to learn some layoff skills, but there is nothing in this video, sad

  • @lzshady when you have rolled your gloss take a brush and starting at the bottom of your work bring the brush up in a light upward stroke, this 'lays off ' your gloss and stops runs, always go back after 10 mins and check for runs, if u need anymore help just ask.

  • Thank you so much this video is a great help !!

  • What works better, a sponge roller or a cotton roller (is that what it's called?)?

  • @910babysnakes dont use sponge rollers, cheap and nasty.

  • First of all, he didnn't cover the outlets with Painter's tape, he didn't mention the importance of 'cutting in' around windws and doors, and he used regular beige masking tape instead of safet release or blue painters tape - regular beige masking tape usually leaves a good portion of the glue behind - even safe release and blue painters tape will leave glue behind if not removed within a few days - if this guy is a pro then I am a master....

  • @mikeinchgo I've done hundreds of paint jobs without spending the extra money on blue painter's tape. I don't leave tape on for days and I've never had a problem with tape goo. This is a PORTION of the video (video description.) Cutting in around doors/windows is in the other portion. It is a waste of time to cover the plugs with tape if you don't throw paint all over the place. I painted my entire house...no paint on the plugs. I look forward to watching your painting video, Master Mike ; )

  • @tbed63 Yeh, you tell him lol!!!!!!!

  • Du målar fel du kan inte måla och du måste inte lära folk på fel sätt ok

  • very nice advice i learned some new skills in the quest to master the professionalism of artisan.

  • i'm doing :)

  • @tbed63...I painted my bath room last night. I thought it turned out great. I touched up the edges first w a brush, & after that I rolled the rest. But when the paint dried I noticed the edges were lighter than the rest of the walls. And the area where I rolled had light spots too! Should I repaint it again? Any advice?

  • @RobertLei Hi Robert. Without actually looking at it, it sounds to me like you need another coat. If you are making a drastic color change, it's pretty rare that you can cover in only one coat. I hope this helps you. I assume you are using semi-gloss for your bathroom. Having the edges look different than the rolling is pretty typical. I would recommend using a short nap on your roller for bathrooms and kitchens. Don't do the lamb's wool.

  • @tbed63 Yes, I did use semi gloss. I changed the color from white to muted gold. Thank you so much for the tip!

  • Super tips....Thanx a lot :)

  • good video - i am repainting this weekend - creamy white and dark grey. looking forward to having it all done. No offense but i dont like yellow walls except if its for a look specifically for a restaurant - like a Mexican rest. or perhaps a bar look in the den of a house (the color would make you feel you're in Mexico.) Great painting tips - didnt even think about the carpet - that helps! :)

  • my home was built in the late '50's. one room was all wood paneling. we took off the paneling, patched all holes, sanded, primed and painted. days after (paint was completely dry) the paint peeled off in sheets! looked like plastic! now i have to start over....what may have caused it and how do i keep it from happening again? Please help!

  • @jlohmomom So hard to say without looking at it. Perhaps there was some moisture in the walls? That's a real bummer. Take care.

  • @jlohmomom I am sure by now you have figured something out by now but.....I have had the same thing happen on of few ceilings and this is what i did. 1. scrape and get all loose paint off. 2. Put on a coat of oil based primer. 3. fix iperfections with joint compound. 4. spot prime the compound areas with the oil based primer. oil ipaints do smell and it takes awile for it to go away.keep a fan blowing out the window for a few days.curious what ya did.

  • What color are you using to paint the room? The name of the color.

  • I'm not sure what color it is. It's been a while since I made this video. Sorry.

  • How do you get old paint marks off wooden floors from painting walls?

  • use a wet rag, and a stiff blade

  • i am trying to paint my room a dark colour, as i love blacks, reds, purples and blues, but atm i have a yellow room, with graffitti on them. what would be the best way to prepare my walls and is there any special techics that i should use for painting with dark colours?

  • I too have dark colors in my own home. The video shows one of my lightest colors. I don't know of any special techniques or shortcuts. You will need to put 3 coats on the walls, most likely. Don't thin your paint. You may want to ask a painting pro at a paint store if there is a special product available for this. I am no expert on painting products...just have hundreds of hours of experience painting.

  • question, if I where to paint my walls with perminate marker, will that work?

  • Only if you learn to spell 'permanent.'

  • @tbed63 so perminate isn't permanent. they could paint and repaint for hours!! ;-))

  • Can anyone tell me what to do when painting a wall yellow when the previous colour is dark.

    Yellow doesn;t cover very well.

  • Your best bet is to use a primer, Kilz works great. Ask at your paint shop for sure, but it may be best to have the primer tinted as well.

So if you're painting a deep, bright yellow, they would use a hint of that tint in the primer; you get better coverage that way with your first coat.

  • Thanks ronpaulspanish. You obviously have good taste in videos AND in politicians ; )

I hope the video saves you time and makes your end result look even better than it would have.

    Take care!

  • Great Video! I need to paint an office... now I know better! Thanks a lot for posting it!!
