  • I have one very similar to this.Runs on gas, propane and ng.But this is made in early 60s not 40s.But still a nice old gen.

  • Are these worth anything? I just got one just like this but excellent shape w spare parts sitting for 30 yrs and ran off natural gas. I seem to have no spark when cranking by hand. Maybe need a battery? Wonder where you list them?

  • @mobilemowers not sure what they are worth. i wouldent expect a fortune for it anyways. try smokestak engine forums generator page. someone there might be interested. the natural gas ones last forever because they dont get the nasty sludge a gasoline burner gets

  • How much gas does it burn at say 50% power?

  • @PlainzRyder not sure yet. havent had the chance to really put it to work yet.

  • Beauty. Thanks for your comment on my k331

  • @Spetet thanks

  • kind of sounds like a ford 8n

  • @JHx86 yep it does sound very much like like an old tractor engine

  • hey no shout outs for the guy that helped get it out of the basement.

  • @scoon728 you know i havent run it in along time. i gotta bring it out warm it up and change the oil and filter sometime.

  • @scoon728 and a special thanks to scooter for helping to get it out!

  • I have one of these, but the 3KVa model.

If you need any tech info, I have A copy of the owners manual I will gladly scan for you.

  • @ElPhantasamo thank you but i did come accross a manual for a 4kw model of this generator at a used book store. it has alot of the sam components and the manual shows a similar controller and how its hooked up, engine diagrams.

thanks again though for the thought.

  • I have one, for sale. Great shape mounted on trailer. Need hand crank and fan shroud as yours has. Do you have these parts...or know of anyone who wants one? Greg Tripp 706-825-7180 Augusta, GA 27 Mar 2010 How to tell what year?

  • Sorry i dont have the parts you are looking for, the best place i could think of to look is ebay. and i wish i could tell you how to find the year but i dont know how myself. all i know for sure is based on old ads i found the styling used on my unit here was used from the middle 40's up into the early 50's. thats all i could find. i dont know if anyone has been able to trace the serial #'s on these or not?

  • if i come accross anyone i will send them your way!

  • I was wondering if you could help me a little bit. There is one of these units in a garage of the historical society in the town where I live. They want to sell is and I was wondering if you had any Idea about what it is worth???

  • sorry i really dont have any idea? i would estimate between $2- $600 depending on its condition

  • well this is exactly like the one on ebay just a smidge bigger!

  • That engine likely weighs about 300-500 lbs, if I'm any judge at all. It's the generator that's the heavy part! It'd be great on a go-kart, though.

  • your right the generator head is almost always heavier than the engine! their is so much wire in those windings the weight really adds up! the generator head likely weighs about 1200lbs on this particualar unit. the engine makes up the rest of the weight.

  • @1944johndeerel

Just to help spare old electric machinery from the scrappers, I'd like to point out that the reason they are so heavy is because there is SO MUCH IRON in them- the actual weight in copper windings would only be a couple pounds for a machine like that...

  • yes there is alot of iron here, and yes it makes up quite a bit of weight, but at the same time i could argue what you said about the windings only making up for a couple pounds of the weight of this machine. but i do think its nice your trying to save good old stuff from the scrapper.

  • interesting how big is it exactly? and whats the fuel consumpsion

  • BIG! for a 6500w generator i think its about 5' long and maybe 3.5' to the top of the radiator. i figure it weighs about 2000lb's

as to fuel consumtion? i have no clue. i havent had a chance to actually use it. but i think its a fuel sipper. it runs a good 15 min just on the fuel in the bowl and fuel lines when i pull the fuel hose out of my gas container! thats not bad for a 4cyl! and its butter smooth! no flickering lightbulbs like a single cyl does!

  • I saw a very wierd looking lawn tractor in the background who made that?.

  • mtd. thats a worn out beat up old Agway Heritage 4 wheel steer mower. it hasnt run since my uncle gave it to me when he bought a john deere a few years ago. i dont like it. im going to remove the engine. its a 12hp briggs I/C. its still a good engine just needs the carb rebuilt and the oil changed to get it goung again. it was a good runner last i saw it but my uncle said it had a sticky float.

  • Wow, that is quite the awesome generator! How much does that beast weigh?

  • approx 1500 -2000 lb's thats my estimate and i know im in the ballpark. its heavy! those windings in the generator head i belive weigh more than the engine by a little.

  • thats so cool. where do you find this stuff

  • alot of it was given to me from relatives!

  • oh yeah!

  • Very nice! With four cylinders it must be a nice smooth runner. With that much power reserve, you could still run your basics such as fridges and freezers.

  • easily!

  • i have one allmost just like this one but it's a 7.5 kw kohler and several years newer, any idea where I can find parts?

  • i have no clue where to get parts. i would assume that since kohler still makes generators contacting them directly would be your best bet.

  • Is that engine a diesel?

  • no its a reguar gasoline engine. i have a manual for a smaller 2kw model and they also could be set up with a special carb to run off LP, or natuaral gas.

  • any 4 cycle gasoline engine will run on lp or ng

  • well yeah true i forgot that when i made the vid.

  • neat move out china generator! hello kohler!

  • oh yeah! this thing eats those china crappers for breakfast!

  • looks like a tractor with out the wheels lol

  • awesome generator, even the flatheads, good 4 cylinders engines are hard to come by, especially them kohler engines!!!

  • any china engine cant hold a candle to even a worn out kohler! but my kohler here as you can see is not close to being worn out! it does not smoke! and belive it or not its a fuel sipper!

  • what a beast i want one lol

  • Nice!

  • thanks!

  • Wow! that is awesome!! I love the old flathead engines!

  • really nice kohler, my favorite kind of engine :)

great runner too, id love to see more of this engine, 5*

  • more? i guess i could make that happen!

  • nice did you see my 300kw diesel generator ?

  • kohler?

  • yep it looks like that cause of the radiator

  • i have 2 of them!

  • no cummins

  • i think so!

  • well if you did not i have 3 vids of it. by the way you have 2 generators

  • i have 2 identical kohlers yes! but this is the only one that runs. the other is only parts and is missing to many hard to find parts to be fixed.

  • o that sucks well are you going to use this for your home ?

  • you bet! i will eventually!

  • cool

  • Sweet !!

  • thanks!

  • Very Nice man! I love those oil pressure sensors lol but they tend to go out on me but I keep an eye on my own oil lol but its a good system for the average Jo who never changes his oil and doesnt maintain his machines!

    Peace

  • well the reason this was equipt with those sensors is because it is designed to be run 24-7 until it is no longer required. if something happens while your not around it will shut itself down to protect itself from damage. but yes i to always keep an eye on fluids. i topped off the radiator just for the vid! the air cleaner is dry at the moment but it wasnt dusty air so i wasnt worried. the oil is full, but it looks like it is soon due for a change!

  • sweet!!!!!

  • yeah it is! i love this thing! but wow its heavy! i think it weighs about 1800lb's!

  • Runs real good!

  • sure does! and i love the electric start! it uses the generator to crank over the engine. thats why you dont hear an electric starter. all you hear is me triggering a relay and the engine suddenly running!
