i love to dumpster dive. should see the stuff i get around yale in new haven ct. when the college kids graduate and leave college they throw every thing out. ive found tons of computers and laptop. i have even found money in a jars. good places anywhere is the store CVS they will throw out just about anything. food,electronics and tons of candy even dvd's. . contact me if you like more info. prince6913@gmail.com
I started Dumpster Diving when I was just a Kid, back in the 70's. I started doing it again, to find boxes for shipping stuff, that I Sell on eBay, then I found some Bubble Wrap, then some Styrofoam. Now I get all of my Shipping Supplies, except tape and glue out of the dumpsters. I also find a lot of stuff that I can Sell too :) Just recently found a streetlight and some fans, and a electric meter, like the ones that go on the side of the house.I bet it is worth some bucks. Happy Valentines DaY
Thank you! Happy (belated) Valentine's Day to you, too! That's awesome you find all your shipping supplies. There certainly are enough available! :) I found an entire dumpster filled with metal shelving and wished I had a truck this week... those kind of things could be scrapped for cash or used to build shelves at home.
Great video and I love the fact that you aren`t ashamed to be seen. I have been a dumpster diver a long time, haven`t done it lately, but people would be absolutely amazed at the things I have brought home. At one point, and I don`t recommend this to anyone, but I used to dive into mall compactors too, only when they were not at capacity yet and there was plenty of room to move around. I have come out with brand new shoes, packs of socks, boxes of blank cd`s, just about anything retail `cont..
@bvick777 at the mall at some point you will find in the compactor. Again I don`t recommend this to ANYONE. I did it at my own risk and also knowing that security looks down upon people that dive into their compactors. I did get banned once from the mall in Chattanooga. But anyway the waste that goes on is unbelievable until you see it with your own eyes. I work at an apartment complex now in NW Indiana, we have 14 dumpsters here, and the things we find is amazing.
@bvick777 Also another tip, my ex girlfriend and me used to drive neighborhoods at night, we learned trash pickup schedules of various areas, and the night before we would go around with my pickup and flashlights and see what was set out the night before, we have come home with my pickup truck looking like fred sanfords truck, we`d have to rope the items in just to make it home. Then a lot of times when the weekend got here we would go to the open flea market and sell what we found.
@bvick777 There is definitely money to be made for one thing, and another thing is cutting down on waste. It blows my mind especially around Christmas time how much "stuff" people throw away because the people know they are about to buy a lot more and they have to make room, so instead of donating to goodwill or salvation army, they just throw it away. Now multiply that times all across the country, times every single day. Its just mind boggling.
Wow!!! Thanks for your comments! My local mall doesn't have compactors and although I haven't found much there so far, I know someone who found a dumpster nearly full of brand new blue jeans thrown out. She made a decent amount of $ selling them all! :) It's so cool hearing others' experiences.
I do some dumpster diving, and yeah figuring out the times and days is cool. The monitor I am using and parts of my computer I found in the dumpster. The monitor is a 22" Gateway:) You are a Pretty woman too ;) Thanks for the Video.. I am a Subscriber NOW :)
I do this every night at my apartment complex and its great because there is a lot of high quality items. I think its due to the fact that its an upscale complex, I have an apartment full of nice stuff and I never miss a night unless I'm sick. Nobody else does it though which is good for me cause i dont need competition lol
I am, but thanks for your concern. There could be poison in your food at restaurants and grocery stores, too. The chances, however, are slim on all of the above. I spoke to the folks who work at the grocery store... they're glad all that stuff isn't going to waste since they have to throw it away after 3 days on the shelf. Consumers in this country are picky. I can't say I blame people for wanting a perfect bell pepper when they're paying $2.99/per pepper, though.
Wow. You are pretty graceful getting into and out of those dumpsters. Are you secretly catwoman? Just kidding. Seriously though, I would have fallen on my head and sounded like thor, god of thunder when I landed! Cool video.
Hi,surfing around Youtube I just came across your channel and love it. I am a couponer and sometimes couponers dumpster dive for coupons so I'm in the process of putting together a video and would like to put a link to your video in the video description box. The video will be titled Dumpster Diving 1 Person's Trash or another Person's Dinner , something to that affect. I will also be talking about those who dumpster dive to supplement their income,etc. Much Success and Good luck in your finds
well first of all i have to say "your skin is flawless" .. anyway im excited !!! ive been watching vids on dumpster diving but my best watch was a documentary style thing on netflix its def worth checking out.. its what got me sooo interested but IM SCARED TO DEATH to do it ..i did it a tiny bit when i was helping a friend get boxes for a move and found jeans clothing w tags on jewlery all behind a clothing store just int he trash with broken down boxes ..but im interested in the food too..
Must say your my kinda Lady. If I might make a suggestion, ,a small step latter and somethin like a hook on a pole can come in quite handy. Oh, also hammer screwdriver pliers.
i think dumpster diving is like a diseas....i do it too..i find some kind of happiness in finding something..even though i can afford to buy new stuff i just enjoy dumpster diving.....i only take computers, bicycles and electronics though..no food
As sanitary as grocery store food gets and probably more than restaurant meals. :) My family used to be in the restaurant business, so I was able to see a lot of commercial kitchens and those are pretty disgusting. Not sure why I ever eat out, but I do once in a while. I never actually eat anything that has touched the dumpster! Most stuff is in random boxes in there and I clean it at home. :)
Anything of value - food, craft items, furniture, returned items mostly... :) I once found a returned mini fridge and sold it after making sure it worked. Many large businesses simply throw away their returns.
another good idea is get your self one of the grabber things i have one its the best tool to use verry handy when im picking and a flashlight if at night but befor i bought the reach claw thing i was useing a old golf putter to fish out things in staid of leanning on the edge and getting your cloths dirty or risk of falling in trying to fish something out
a note on your "legal" statement-- the dumpsters are usually on private property. the owner or manager has the right to tell you leave the private property. if you do not leave , you can be arrested for trespassing .
I spoke to my local police as well as read it in my local paper where someone had interviewed a deputy that it is, in fact, legal to dumpster dive here. I recommend to everyone to look up their own local laws.
Think of the money these stores would save if they just put materials by their building with a "free" sing above. They wouldn't have to pay for anywhere as much "garbage" pick up. And the world would be a better place, too. I give away as much stuff as I can and rarely buy new.
So true. It would be awesome if most places had a spot like that. Instead, most stores tend to ruin the things they are throwing away that are of any value. I have found so many things slashed, sprayed with paint, or cords cut off of the electronics so that no one can get any use out of them. It's too bad.
I have had great luck behind places like Staples, Michael's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and some grocery stores. I say just figure out which dumpster in your town are unlocked and available to you, then as you run your errands and stuff check them out over the course of a month or two. You'll figure out which ones are the good ones in no time. :) Good luck!
@AMomentWithRachael Staples, Michaels, Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart - alot of these stores they throw out alot of good products. i would love to dumbster dive, but im scared most of these stores have cameras behind their buildings. Even GoodWill stores throw out alot of nice stuff too-everyday!
Like my Sweetie, you're apparently one of the "little people" so I'd suggest a step stool or box to stand on. And you don't leave your car running and unlocked when you're diving do you? Please don't! Not safe. Great vid though so thanks for posting it.
Yes I did/do. Not sure why you think it's so unsafe. I turn it off when I find big finds sometimes to save on gas, but really it is cold here for about 8 months out of the year and I like to keep my children warm. They know better than to get in the driver's seat and I stay close to my vehicle. Thanks for your concern and comment, though. :)
@AMomentWithRachael Only because bad people can be in some of these areas, though I don't know where you live. Anyway, I'd worry about your vehicle being jacked or the kids being hurt. But you've been doing this for a while so I expect you've worked out a routine that's safe and productive. It's nice to see a regular gal doing this as too many people think dumpster diving is for homeless people.
Thank you! Yes, I mainly do this in open areas and keep an eye out for any other people. I make sure to stay close enough to my vehicle that if anyone did pull up or walk up, I could be away from the scene quickly. I do live in a smaller city are, though, a and there isn't a lot of crime. :)
Now why can't I find a beautiful woman like this who is single to go on these adventures with me? I find all kinds of free things. I bought a home and needed things for it, so since I drive a gazillion miles for work I got a big shop vac, a lawnmower, a leaf blower, little picnic table. A power wheels for my son. I could go on and on.
@AMomentWithRachael Yeah you are a rare find, I checked out your blog and watched some of your other videos. Even though I make alright money the more I save from finding these deals the better. I don't have a retirement from my work so I plan to get a chicken coup and some land big enough for a good garden. It may be wrong but I came back to this video last night just to watch you car dance. Your very good.. Me and my son get down in the car too.
LOL! That made my evening... too funny. I nearly edited that out! I don't usually share my "dork" side with everyone, but it's fun.. I love to dance and sing, especially in the car. :) Yeah, I sure love to save where I can. I hardly ever buy produce anymore, because I find boxes full of it that were only on the grocery shelves 3 days. :) Yesterday I found four boxes of great produce, a new cherry wood cabinet set I had to put together, and a bunch of craft stuff...
@AMomentWithRachael Great finds!! I think more and more people are starting to wake up and realizing that in one day America throws away enough food to probably feed a third world country in a year. I like your pizza making video. I am looking forward to trying that. I don't think you mentioned this but what state do you live in? I seen somewhere that you had a friend in Michigan?
I even got a brand new ring bearer pillow... I am beginning to think I may be able to start saving things and be ready for when I meet Mr. Right, lol.
@AMomentWithRachael Well you sound like Miss Right.. My ex's dad actually called me Salvation Army Boy because I go to goodwill when I bought my house and got all kinds of great deals. I also pick up stuff on the side of the road I can use. Free is for me!! I don't live like a hoarder at all. I have very minimal clutter. I just pray for things and give away things I don't use and I just end up finding things I do. I have actually told a few people about you.. and wooho I just saw you dance again
Thanks for the tips. I don't have spending money for good work gloves or a good grabber right now. So far... I have never hurt myself. I am just very careful. I have gotten things out of dumpster with glass and am just cautious. :)
Rachael! Great and informative video! Thinking about doing some diving myself. What remains a mystery for me is how an apparently well spoken, attractive, and good-natured woman such as yourself is single. This is nothing short of a tragedy! Keep posting vids! YouTube is better for it!
Allied Waste Services of were? AW dosnt care do you pull out recycle ? and always check in strip malls also the ones with locks have good stuff in them
@AMomentWithRachael well i have a key for dumpster locks not to sure if it would work also check dumpsters by large retial stores because they throw every thing out and what Allied Waste branch is it like what city
@AMomentWithRachael also check sometimes at recycle dumpsters i look for none furris metals (not steel) i am a metal buyer and condos dumpsters sometimes you find very cool stuff like onec i found 300$ in a envlop :D
i go all the time and i find all kinds of good stuff if you run into any old stuff or old signs id like to try to buy them from you my name is billy im from dante va 24237 my number is 276-495-1367 if you dont care i love old stuff tyvm have a nice day good luck with your finds
Thank you! :D Yeah, I feel right at home dumpster diving now, LOL. I used to feel embarrassed, but got over it when I realized there wasn't anything to be embarrassed about - I'm getting awesome free stuff and getting use out of things that would otherwise be in a landfill! Yay! :D
I have gone at night before, but since I'm a single mom I just usually go in the day time. As long as it's not locked you're good to go anytime you want! Evening is probably best since your chances of them throwing out their stuff that day is higher. You just have to go early enough in the evening that you still beat the other dumpster divers to the finds. ;) Grocery stores are great! :)
Wow, that was AMAZING! The absolute best part was when one of your kids whispers all exicitedly that "were going dumpster diving for an hour!" You seem like a very logical, well rounded mom still nursing at 2, dancing, and dumpster diving, does kids good!
Wow, thanks Tara! LOL... my kids' comments often crack me up. It's always interesting watching the video later and find out what they were saying while I was diving. I really appreciate your comment! :)
Has anyone come out of the store and find you? What did you say? I wanna dive but feel somewhat embarrassed. I did do it once; found some lawn chairs for my garden.
I was found out only once. A delivery truck pulled up and the driver told the manager, who then came out to talk to me. I had found an awesome leather chair (one of the expensive ones... heavy duty - I was so excited) that was only missing one wheel (I knew I could find a replacement wheel at Home Depot). He tried telling me it was the law that either I had to put the stuff back or pay him for it! Ha! I knew the law already, because I had spoken to a deputy in town about it
So, I told him, but he continued to be such a pest. I gave him back the chair and he took it into the store. I kept all my other finds, though. Now I carry a print out of the law. I haven't had a chance to show it to anyone yet, though. Just try to remember, they should be embarrassed ones due to everything they're throwing away in this "live green" era. Why send perfectly good things to a dump? It'll take forever for some of that stuff to break down. :)
Would love to know what the black thing was at the start of the video, a shelf? Great video, and your kids in the background was cute! Teaching them at a young age to Dive is great I personally feel. Love to see more videos of your dives!
Hi! Yes, it was a shelf. :) I used it to organize a bunch of stuff in one of the small rooms in my house. And thank you! I plan on making more in the near future. My internet has been acting up lately (the company I'm with just got bought out...), so I haven't been able to upload as many videos. Hopefully it'll speed up again soon! :) Thanks so much for the comments!
you should bring a stool with you, might make it bit easier to get in for a sec I thought you would fall in!! MAke more vids of these!! It would have been cool if you put in pictures or vid of what you got : ) I dont drive and im 10 miles out of town but I would love to do this!! My mom used to when I was young, she still looks for things on the side of the road and finds items. There is SO many things that get tossed out that other ppl could use.Its like going to ggodwill or yardsale : )

I seen somewhere that you had a friend in Michigan?
freespeachrulez 3 months ago
@freespeachrulez
I even got a brand new ring bearer pillow... I am beginning to think I may be able to start saving things and be ready for when I meet Mr. Right, lol.
AMomentWithRachael 3 months ago
@AMomentWithRachael Well you sound like Miss Right.. My ex's dad actually called me Salvation Army Boy because I go to goodwill when I bought my house and got all kinds of great deals. I also pick up stuff on the side of the road I can use. Free is for me!! I don't live like a hoarder at all. I have very minimal clutter. I just pray for things and give away things I don't use and I just end up finding things I do. I have actually told a few people about you.. and wooho I just saw you dance again

tubofbologna 4 months ago
also get yourself a good "grapper" with a long handle to grab out of reach items!
tubofbologna 4 months ago
get a good pair of work gloves... scrapes and cuts from the dumpster could get very bad very fast
tubofbologna 4 months ago
@tubofbologna

Thank you! :D Yeah, I feel right at home dumpster diving now, LOL. I used to feel embarrassed, but got over it when I realized there wasn't anything to be embarrassed about - I'm getting awesome free stuff and getting use out of things that would otherwise be in a landfill! Yay! :D

Do you do at night? and is a grocery stores ok? I'm thinking of hitting up a electronics store or something... at night
videodude4 7 months ago
@videodude4
AMomentWithRachael 7 months ago
Wow, that was AMAZING! The absolute best part was when one of your kids whispers all exicitedly that "were going dumpster diving for an hour!" You seem like a very logical, well rounded mom still nursing at 2, dancing, and dumpster diving, does kids good!
TaraCoons0810 7 months ago
@TaraCoons0810

I did do it once; found some lawn chairs for my garden.
leapingfroglady 8 months ago
@leapingfroglady
Ha! I knew the law already, because I had spoken to a deputy in town about it
AMomentWithRachael 8 months ago
@leapingfroglady
AMomentWithRachael 8 months ago
@leapingfroglady
P.S.
I was embarrassed at first, too. Some days I still have my moments. :) Thanks for the comment/view!!! :D

Would love to know what the black thing was at the start of the video, a shelf? Great video, and your kids in the background was cute! Teaching them at a young age to Dive is great I personally feel. Love to see more videos of your dives!
MiPrimGirl 9 months ago
@MiPrimGirl
