  • Luke is the greatest Irish singer ever to come out of Ireland. i am a Irish singer and trust me when you try to sing songs like him, you better get up early and by that i mean practising.

  • I don't think Luke seems confused on this video. He's very much in command of everything. I have really enjoyed this as I do all of his renditions over the years and I'm not even from his traditional background.

    Music breaks down all barriers.

He is certainly one of my musical heroes.

  • irish bob marley. you will never find more soul than that!

  • @albar76 He's a little more than Bob Marley, I think, although they both died at a young age and are heroes in their countries.

  • @albar76 indeed I agree, both kelly and marley had stacks of charisma

  • craicin`

  • "When Ronnie Drew was born" hahahahahaha

  • What s singer - one of the best voices I gave ever heard - his voice and his stage presents are pure Ireland

  • HEY! I'm number 125,000! Thats kind of cool, I'll have a toast to that!

    Long live the Irish!

  • @verbusen Sláinte !

  • haha in 1841 when Ronnie drew was born lol Luke must have been hilarious

  • Luke's stage presence is because he sings as natually as he talks.

  • LUKE IS IRELAND AND HER VOICE

  • I love luke kelly i think hes 1 of Irelands best Singers

  • im glad he is the voice of ireland

  • @MrLance228 I'm the new voice of Ireland.

  • @Zesazerty When you can lilt rather than sing "a Rocky Road to Dublin" while keeping a consistence of passionate but not a over-zealous jaunty spirid about it, then i may consider giving you a new task, but i say emphaticallly that you will never beat Luke Kelly.

  • i love luke and his voice too, for me, he is the best singer ever, but don't forget ronnie and ciarian.

  • I tend to love traditional musics :p I love Irish music, and Celtic music :D

  • Irish music is not just great for the Irish. I love it and know a lot of the lyrics of the songs by heart, used to sing my kids to sleep with Irish songs when they were babies. Though I've never been to Ireland...

  • I can tell something wasn't quite right in this vid of Luke. If he did have the operation before this concert then it would explain him looking confused a bit on stage. Rest in peace Luke and may your music always bring happiness and comfort to those of us still here on earth.

  • This was before the Operation,

exactly when does Luke look confused?

  • @kellyoneill all the way through espically at the beggining, he seemed giddy and blinked multiple times

  • @funkwolf1 he was giddy cos he said a joke, he was slaggin ronnie drew

  • @kellyoneill I don't think Luke looks confused, but the sides of his face don't match. The right side of his face is more swollen than the left side. That could have been a sinus infection, though.

  • @whitewizzardreturns I think this was after his operation

  • @whitewizzardreturns Id say your confused

  • @whitewizzardreturns Haaa you fuckin mongo this was pre op

  • knee slappin fun with friends! love it!! luke = God

  • pulling switches and dodging hitches!!!

  • dam you luke, you set the bar to high for us mere mortals.

  • PorscheJochen, I read that Ciaran had a brain hemorrhage in 74, he never really recovered and was unable to perform. According to the article the Dubliners never stopped paying him, nor would they consider replacing him until his death in 88. If thats true they sure were some loyal friends!

  • Lovely singing. My Dad's name was Paddy, his Dad was irish, I never met him, but I love irish music.

  • I play a similar song called 'Philamiooriay' which is a lot faster and uses most of the lyrics to the verses as they are on here. Interesting to hear another version. My version is entirely in G and Am so is a doddle to play - this seems similar although with an occasional C thrown in but it'd be good to hear people singing this sort of thing live again.

  • where is ciaran bourke??

  • This was a while after Ciaran died. (Hope I spelled his name right. God be good to him.)

  • what?? Ciarian died on 10. Mai 1988 an Luke on 30. Januar 1984!

    ???

  • Are you sure? If that's the case, I really have no idea.

  • Im absolutly sure! look at wikipedia...

  • ciaran died in 1988, but was unable to play since he became unwell in 74/75

  • Is this guy alive r dead can anyone tell me?

  • Luke died of a brain tumour in 1984.

  • Anyone have the chords for this?

  • god bless you luke, and god speed ronnie. two of the best men.

  • He is so locked there. What a legend.

  • RIP, Luke, and your mate Ronnie Drew who died of cancer today, 16th August, 2008. Give the angels some new tunes, lads.

  • He totally has the audience in his hand - d'you see the way he gets them to clap along, totally stop, and then start up again?!

Let's see any performer get up nowadays and command such attention with just his voice and a few acoustic musicians

  • what a performance. As someone else said he puts his heart and soul into his performances and really cares. you can tell he cares about Paddy.

  • i was wearing courdroy breeches digging ditches pulling switches cool lyrics lukey you are the master eireann go brah!

  • When you were Singing it was your soul who Spoke

Pure Magic words straight from the Tongue

while your Heart started to bleed, Sometimes

Your eyes closed and almost melt to one with you face

    Such beautiful pieces

With such Poetic and such Clearly rhyms
