  • omg he is so amazing!

  • quienes son los 11 conchudos q no les gusta eso?? gil shaham es unicoo el mejor... seguro q a los q no les gusta gil no TOCA UN PEDO EN EL VIOLIN.

  • it really pisses me off that the pianist is fucking asian

  • @shirusubemonaku wtf...why? (r u just trollin -__-)

  • @mangagrl01 cuz classical music wasn't composed for asians to perform, its purely a caucasian treasure, and orientals shouldn't touch it!

  • @shirusubemonaku huh? that is bollocks. music are universal. music is hope.

  • @shirusubemonaku lol i love coming across dumb people. i hope you never procreate

  • thumbs up if Lady Gaga's Marry The Night video brought you here!

  • thumbs up if you think Mr Shaham is the master of sarasate pieces. hes captured every single emotion intended by sarsate in each piece he plays!

  • I didnt see Gil Shaham in reallity. So i missed somrthing in my life. Negative critics ok, write them down and fill your trashcan.

  • great performance!

it's a best video and quality in all of youtube

  • Summing up my points, we can say gil's version is far inferior to chang's

  • @pzowndizzle1 YIKES. I saw Sarah Chang do this at Avery Fischer Hall, I think, she was very very good. Even more than that. I would not think these nuances are even worth discussing.

  • In zigeunerweisen, there are a lot of places where the player can express this deep sentiment. Looking at it this way, Sarah chang is better, because her playing is much more deeper. There are many places where chang is better.

Gil does not sound gypsy, but just clean.

Here too 1:16 -1:17 the shift is lame.

for instance 1:47 - 1:48. Compare this part. This double note has to be deep and delving. GIl's is shallow. Doesnt even put vibrato

  • @pzowndizzle1 Plz tell me you did not go there and compare Gil Shaham to Sarah chang........listen, you cant even compare violinist on this level of playing. Sarah Change is Sarah Change and Gil is Gil. It your taste. there is no "this person is better" anymore. But in this case, for you to have said that Sarah Changs performance was better, is pure Blasphemy.

  • @pzowndizzle1 hey.... shut up, u wanna compare world-class performers? play this piece to their standard to a live audience, then by all means, say wat ever u want, if not just delete ur youtube account if u r gonna compare any top performer to another or hate on another vid. goodbye.

  • @SteelyPhil37 If you honestly think Sarah chang's zigeunerweisen is laughably bad and "inferior" to gil shahams, you must either be deaf or does not know music at all. FIrst of all, all gil shaham's interpretation of the music sounds the same. Compare his zigeuerwesien with his carmen fantasy and other pieces. They sound exactly alike.

You must consider that zigeunerweisen is gyspy air. To me a gypsy music must sound strong and emotional. It must delve deep into emotions.

  • Many fine things here. I am of course biased, but please see also this: youtube.com/watch?v=0omJOQWJrI8 . I haven't been in any Gil Shahams's concerts but have listened to him many times in radio.

  • He is so great <3 awesome

  • an average performance...

  • I just don't understand why the comparation between GIl Shaham and Sarah chang.

He just doesn't deserve it :)

  • @pzowndizzle1 Sarah Chang has better dynamics or it might be the bad recording.

  • @pzowndizzle1 Sarah Chang has absolutely nothing on Gil Shaham. Her live performance of this piece (at least the one circulating around YouTube) is laughably bad, but even on a good day her playing is far inferior to Shaham's.

  • he makes it look so effortless...amazing....more like dayum...

  • Also incredible accomp. OMG !

  • This is the best I've ever heard of this piece. So farrrrrrr... out standing

  • this pieces from shaham are my favorite between all the others full of clear positions

  • Gil Shaham is excepcional, I would love to see him Live.

  • blows my mind how tight his bow is

  • Simply beautiful! Sigh!

  • Gil is the fucking MAN!

  • WOW! so nice

  • I love this piece and I love Gil! You can see the joy in his eyes when he plays :)

  • My god.....I think I just had an orgasm listening to this.....

  • Although ouch at 6:58. That wasn't supposed to happen!

  • Nice to hear someone do something new with this piece. Ever since Heifetz did it everyone's been afraid to deviate. Of course, that's because Heifetz nailed it, but there you go.

  • This is the best Zigeunerweisen rendition; the other recordings are not as fiery as gil shahams.

Anne Sophie Mutter with james levine isnt too bad but I still prefer gil shahams rendition

  • How?? look at that 8 people they are fan of Linkin Park

  • I saw Shaham in Bologne in 2010. After playing Bach for about 2 hours, he run on the hall of the theater to thank every one was at the concert, to sign every cd was sold, and to answer to EVERYONE that had something to ask. He must be a wonderful person

  • @breakingthebroken84 I went to his masterclass! He is amazing!

  • haha, what a beast

  • He is a violin poet!

  • very nice sound, that violin is so sweet. Very nice in slow parts played by Gil, and amazing technique as in others top violinists. :)

  • Gil's playing is very nice in slow parts, but his technique is amazing-as in others top violinists. That violin produces so sweet sound.

  • his tone production is quite good

    very steady

    reminds me of zukerman's playing

  • maybe his bow's tight to keep his bow from approaching the string too forcefully...he has a light, fluid motion, and a tight bow would bounce if he wasn't careful

  • C'est cela la vraie virtuosité! Magnifique musique et interprètes! Virtuoso - virtù !

  • 8 people have Bieber Fever. :/ Just sayin'

  • Oops! 7:02. It happens even to the best. Bottom line - we're all humans - thanks GOD!

  • speechless!! :0

  • I love his playing, but just wondering: why is his bow so tight?

  • I can't believe that the piano made a mistake in the first measure!

  • his sound is always projecting because he uses so little force and a lot of bow

  • Sound is too aggressive between 4:20 - 6:10, other wise :)

  • He's just chillin. =D

  • This is unbelievable! Shaham's intensity is incredible, to the point where I can see sweat dripping off his violin. Great intonation throughout, as well!

  • Wooooow Very very very Good!!!! I love your violin Sound !!!!! :D!!!!

  • I feel so lucky to have a teacher who studied with this man!

  • This was absolutely hypnotizing. I don't recall ever seeing the first half of this played so well.

  • that was AMAZING

  • The first three notes the accompanist played with out of tune!!

  • When he plays, you don't just hear the sound, you feel it as if the violin were alive. To me, thats what feels like true ability or talent. To be able to make the violin sing. ^_^ makes me happy.

  • I cant belivie he had a flaw :o OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE ANYWAYS!

  • Greetings, please be sure to check out the legendary recording by the great violinist and Heifetz protege, Erick Friedman, with the London Symphony Orchestra of Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen on my Youtube channel under 'Erick Friedman performs Sarasate' in two parts.

  • 6 people missed the like button i love his solo

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!

  • The best version of Zigeunerweisen! I love your bowing, Gil!

ps. and I love your Glasses too. haha

  • genialll espectacular

  • Хорошо играет :

  • He express a feeling in his music really nice. =)

  • Why would an established violinist play this crappy cliched piece in concert?

  • @winrx It was a concert that featured the work of Sarasate.

  • MESS UP AT 7:00!!!! but otherwise a perfect preformance by mr. shaham

  • @saintmichael104 Nobody gives a crap about him messing up. After all, we're all humans.

  • @RatedPi very true, very true. I do practice this spot extra now though lol

  • @RatedPi wait, where did he "mess up?"

  • @RatedPi oh wait nevermind, well i hate fast parts anyway

  • I think his version is a bit fast, and he could take some more time in the beginning, especially on the runs. However, he plays the runs with such clarity and precision that it just sounds so great!

  • I think his version is a bit fast, and he could take some more time, especially on the runs. However, he plays the runs with such clarity and precision that it just sounds so great!

  • His bow arm is so completely relaxed and he makes it look so easy! :)

  • 0:51 YES i got it :)

  • Brighter than other versions I have heard.

  • I think i ruined my mouse by how many times a clicked like

  • nice :D

  • He had a little fumble at 7:00 - 7:01

  • @weenerwallet yes he did. and his left hand pizz kinda sucked.

  • This is a better version

  • Of all the versions I have heard in You Tube of this piece I think Heifetz and Shaham are the best. Ricci also plays it wonderful.

Shaham had a little mistake at 7:01 and his pizz were not very clear but who in the fuck cares about that when all the rest is perfect?

Actaully I will have to play this piece very soon, of course I wont play it like Shaham is in another level but I will try to be as close as I can to him.

  • Seriously, all of you judgers, how can you possible judge 2 violinists such as Sarah Chang and Gil Shaham? They both have different approaches, interpretations, etc.

  • Yeah!! Faster Z!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Bravo! The best version I've ever heard.

  • 游死走綫,輕划沉拉,情由聲发,扣人心弦。

  • Gil Shaham is one of my favourite violinists! Every piece he plays is perfect.

  • Oh men, i love this piece xD

I just don't understand why the comparation between GIl Shaham and Sarah chang.

She just doesn't deserves it :)

  • Mihail Iacovescu *THUMBS UP*

  • A la belleza de la pieza se une la interpretación...maravillosa de este violinista que yo no conocia. ¿Será el Stradivarius, o solamente el?

  • Sarah Chang is a lie! She is an instrument player with no intelligence whatsoever, that's it!!! And she's hot too, gotta admit...

  • @as334 What an asinine, unsubstantiated generalization.

  • 0:37 was a little on the flat side. But this is definitely the best Zigeunerweisen I have heard.

  • wonderful. he has such a beautiful tone. in my opinion, he is greatly underrated, because you dont (or I don't) seem to hear of him and see his name as often as some other world famous violinsts. He is exceptionally good - marvellous.

  • Comment removed

  • @SophiaVonHelgastein lol heifetz worst than shaham perlman mutter and chang? lol how can you even compare? heifetz is the best violinist of alltimes...

  • I love Gil's version of this. NO ONE plays a slide at the end except him.

  • magnificent...

  • ¡¡Bravo!!! Una maravilla

    100000 ********

    Saludos

    Carmen

  • BRAVO pour les artistes !

    J´adore cette musique!

    Un grand merci.

  • Virtuosité jusque dans l'âme !!!! suprême et inoubliable !!

  • its too fast. But it sounds very good :)

  • i'm not particularly fond of his speed in the beginning but this is great.

  • my favorite classic piece.

  • Wow, incredible.

    Gil Shaham is a genius.

It's interesting how tight he keeps his bow though. Anyone know why?

  • bravi

  • this song is so great. i love listen to him

  • This is better than the Sarah Chang version i think. This is not as scratchy

  • @punchaloo well sarah had to play outside so she had to play loud and he has a piano and she needs to play loud to overpower them and scratchy ness adds character and it shows she isnt scared to play loud

  • @punchaloo and if he played like that outside wit other ppl, we'd prob not hear him lol

  • Gil Shahams sound is about 10 times bigger than Sarah Changs.

  • @punchaloo I think Sarah Chang With Berliner Phil. version is better

  • @punchaloo It's because Gil Shaham is a beast.

  • i think that they are both great. they have two very contrasting, individual sounds/styles.

  • @punchaloo I disagree....Gil Shaham change his tempo too much....I like Sarah Chang's better, even though it's a lot more scratchyer, but that's Sarah Chang....Her 1717 Guarneri Del Gesu is awesome like that:)

  • @kuvhlubkojibleegxwbo maybe so, but dont forget this is a fiddle song!

  • @kuvhlubkojibleegxwbo Changes tempo too much? The Saenger edition of this piece explains it well, noting "It is hardly possible to prescribe any set rules as to the exact manner in which this composition is to be played. It should be interpreted with absolute freedom, in order to resemble as closely as possible the character and style of improvised Gypsy music."

Plus, the violin hardly effects it. Very subtle differences at that level. Having a Guarneri or Strad doesn't make a player..

  • @Mecinimi I've played this piece before...and I do understand some parts in there you can play around with the piece a little, but some parts he just kind of over did it, but I still like his version a lot too.

Well, I agree with you that a Guarneri or Strad doesn't make a player but it does my a player sound better!

  • @punchaloo This is way better than Sarah Chang's verson..... Sarah Chang's verson really disappointed me =.=`......

anyways..... I like it better if it's played with an orcheastra =P

  • @punchaloo actually Sarah Chang might have been scratchy but at least she has a little bit more emotion that this person

  • @turtoy1 wow you need to look a little closer. He is putting a hell lot of emotion into this if you didn't realize.

  • @turtoy1 they are both geniuses. No need to compare them, or to put one above the other, I love them both!

  • iron's fingers! Fantastic bow! And much much music. Wonderful Gil!!!!!!

  • so beautiful

  • Gil Shaham plays the 1699 "Countess Polignac" Stradivarius. VERY BEAUTIFUL!! I also love his smile =)

  • @stradivarius001 It's spelled, "Comtesse de Polignac".

  • A genius, isn't he?

  • he smiles, while playing :D

    thats sweet ;)

  • increíble.

  • Oh Gosh! Excellent, thanks so much!!!

    (Much better than perlmann)

  • dude it's perlman

  • quality stuff, bothe the perfomance and the video

  • !!!!!!!!!!

  • I would listen to it and listen.

    Thank you

  • OMG this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3rd movement is bit imperfect with this piece although i love his charming sounds and emotional interpretation. But sure anyone who listened his other pieces such as Sibelius or Bruch concerto wouldn't mind it at all. He is still my favorite violinist.

  • @6:59 Kinda weird to see this man make a mistake, but man that was a bad one...his recording of this is spot on though, and this interpretation is otherwise impeccible. His fingers just did not quite match his spiccato in the A Major section. Albeit, the transition is a little awkward due to the slur, but Gil is a bow master, evident from all his flying staccato and whatnot. This shouldn't have been a problem for him.

  • why so many thumbs down for jlgviolin? I think he's right. 6:59, theres a slight error in timing between his bow and fingers.

  • There was but he recovered really quickly! ;) I still say this was an awesome interpretation except for the error.

  • this guy teaches me how to make music!!

  • I love the way they ALL play! :)

  • זה פשוט מדהים !!

    its amazing

  • best interpretation ever...lots of emotion...not just skills!!!!!

    wow...he chills me...

  • You can listen too Olivier PONS, a french violonist, and after you' ll can said which is the best interpretation for Sarasate, zigeunerweisen.

Sorry for my english, but I am French...

  • there should be so many more views than this. maybe youtube's counter lost track of a few digits at the end...

  • it sounds like he plays with a lot of emotion, but i just wish that he would show it more.=(

  • What did the pianist do at 6:18?

  • He plays the piano.

  • He is just catching shaham's tempo!!!

  • waaaah i dont get tired to all his interpretation..Awesome!Bravo!

  • gracias por subir este video tan genial!

  • just perfect !

  • at 5:35... is that a pianoissimo? there's really really romantic he played.

  • nice job, but it;s too fast,

  • I would agree, but technically that is just opinion.

  • thats true, but if he just slow down a little bit, it'll be better.

  • simply beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • absolutely stunning... beautiful sound...

  • itzak????????????

    puff werever

  • nombre k barbaro

para mi lo mejor k tenemos vivo

    excelente

  • wonderful!!!!!

  • 5:156:00,I am impressed.^^

  • gil has one of the best command of dynamics ever...i think itzak is #1 but gil stil has his own style
