lol good point there. But what I was referring to was the pretty low quality software that is available for linux. I want to use photoshop not gimp. Gimp is great but doesn't have the same features as photoshop and isn't as user friendly. I came across some glitches too while using it.
I want to use Sony Vegas Pro... linux doesn't even have a proper video editing program. I also want to play games natively on my pc. Wine has bugs. Linux software is always "ok", never amazing.
... you are missing my point. Linux for me isn't something that will ever replace my windows machine or a mac. I need to do real work and linux just doesn't cut it now. I will wait and see what happens. I hope linux really does beat microsoft and apple, but it needs to improve greatly before it can do that. It feels gimmicky and slapped together.
I understand what you mean but, I insist, if photoshop doesn't work on Linux is not because Linux is not ok. There's nothing wrong with Linux. If Autocad is not working on Linux is not Linux's fault. Autocad and photoshop are not Linux. One thing are the applications and another the OS......
You are right about that. There is nothing "wrong" with Linux, just compatibility. If Adobe starts making Photoshop for Linux and Sony starts making software for Linux; I will be back to Linux in no time. My only problem with Linux is compatibility, that's all. I'm going to wait till this is resolved.
Exactly. That's why your problem is not with Linux but with the design of the rules. You can visit Stallman's websie, as a starting point, to understand all that.
The reason why you don't have them running on Linux is, as many other things on our world, caused by irrational behaviour, inertia, monopoly, history, chance,.... many, many other external causes that have nothing to do with technical possibilities.
Linux does not beat them (YET -who knows later?) in the market not in other fronts. Besides Apple is an UX system. Windows is crazyness.
I do use Linux though. My netbook is running on linux and my phone as well. For me, Linux is great for second hand use. My main desktop PC is running Windows 7 and it does everything I want very well. Linux doesn't have any commercially available software which is important for me. I don't mind paying for software either. However open source software for multimedia like Miro and audio/video converters are awesome. Those kinds of software should be free I believe.
nothing :( my linux distro sits dormant for most things except general internet use and browsing because i am a power user and reliant on alot of software that simply is not available for linux.
@bassistguy lots but the ones that anre on linux are max/msp, visual studio, ableton the adobe suit.......hundreds of others that there is no equal or better alternative to on linux...theres no reason to switch but i will allways have it installed on at least one machine to keep my eye on it :)

Just because something is free, doesn't make it better.
A sack of shit is free.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
How about that? Isn't that an intelligent comment?
Just because something is not free, doesn't make it better.
The blueberries, apples, air, water, raspberries are free and a MacShitHamburger isn't ...
.
"FREE = OPEN"
.
But never mind, windos is good for people like you.

@Charles2337 :
Ok. Yes but as many people see it, the problem for all that is not linux, nor openess. The problem, deeep inside, are the others.
Mathematics are open. What works better than that?
What would happen if not all of them were so? ... Well, probably the open side will start to have a lot of problems they don't have now.
