This album cover shows the original Hawks - Levon-drums; 'Will 'Pop"Jones-piano; and Jimmy-Ray Paulman - guitar. Will Jones, and Jimmy-Ray eventually went back to Arkansas while Levon stayed with Hawkins and became a member of the new Hawks who then became The Band when they left Hawkins to go out on their own.
I never heard this version when these guys were on the air in the 50's. This is far better than any other version that was more popular -- including the original. The one I really remember was "Mary Lou". These guys were great and underappreciated at the time.
The Band as the rough roadhouse band as they started out. Listen to that tight unit they already were in those early days! Just fucking great! I 'm gonna listen to this material the rest of the night with a glass of wine and comb my hair into that quiff.
I need help! I heard a version of Ronnie Hawkins singing "Jambalaya" and it is awesome...but I can't find it!

This is great, but I am missing the cut of "Mary Lou" from this album. Did it have to be lifted from YouTube?

Pretty heavy guitar work by Robbie Robertson at the end for 1962' way ahead of Clapton i think.
