  • Love this tune...first heard and loved it on one of my dad's Irish folk/rebel song albums when I was a kid. Then when PP&M came out with their version, I fell in love with it again. Like your version best.

  • @AngelBug514 too kind. its a very touching story melody,

  • Thanks for tagging this as a response to my dulcimer version. I was delighted to see that several days ago, and now embarrassed to see that I didn't approve the response until just now. Sorry about that, no snub intended. Thanks again!

  • Oh, it's Irish (i.e. Gaelic). I used to think they were singing about their shoes.

  • me too when I was little.

  • amazing thumb, really nice feeling

  • thanks

  • amazin´ thumb (?) Daumen in Deutsch:)

  • thanks.

  • I learned this song as a child in fifth grade, we sang it for our spring concert that year. I have never forgotten it, and it still makes me come all over goosebumps when I hear it. thank you for posting it~

  • thanks.i love it too.

  • I wish I can play as good as you do ! I also like Peter , Paul & Mary very much !

  • thanks.

  • Oh, you really have good feeling of music and magic fingers. I guess your kids were happy when listening to you. Thanks

  • It's wonderful, your voice is very good. I see that that the intro is a little bit different from that of PPM. Could you mind sending me the guitar tab or sheet music of this song?

    Thanks for your beautiful song!

  • sorry no tab.its in my head or really my fingers.

  • ps. I dont try to copy the original. Its been maybe 40 years since I heard it. I sang this to the kids and it evolved this way. Probably its the path of leat resistance to play. Thanks.

  • You have a very soothing voice perfect for this song. Your playing was wonderful! I love folk songs and you have done this one justice. Thank you for sharing.

  • very kind of you

  • i love this song forever PETER PAUL & MARY, I love u, thank u

  • Pretty nice voice actually! You should get another vocalist to sing with you!

  • I was drawn so strongly to this song also ... The olde midieval sound ... and the non-sensical syrics drew me to it ...

  • Very good thanks for sharing.

  • so kind of you. I wonder what the words mean??Are they just sounds or another language?? :-)

  • the original words are gaelic. they belong to an irish folk song called shul aroon. if you've heard the song johnny has gone for a soldier it is also very similar.

    great job by the way!

  • No no no, I'm a natural sponge of sad songs myself. Keep that way buddy lol.

  • I know what you mean. Thanks so much for your comments. I see what you mean by clean aoucstic with this stuf

  • I believe the first line means: come come come my love

  • I think you are about the best 12-string guitar picker that I've heard.

    Alex...

  • way to kind. Its a good guitar that plays like a 6 string. Variants of travis pick but now the theories are in my fingers and not my brain.Basic chords with runs off the basic chords. Thanks so much. Does inspire me to continue. :-)

These songs arose from my childhood out of the interest of "oldstewball" et al.

  • Very beautiful!

  • so very kind.

  • Hey Nice job....Would you be able to give me the chord changes for that song...i love it but cannot find suitable tabs/chords. Thanks
