  • I bought Astral Weeks some months ago and it changed my life!!

  • Great video, good closeups of a master ! yes I saw him a great performer

  • Fantastic!

  • ......take me down to the water.....

  • absolutely love this version, incredible!

  • Good version. The best Sweet Thing I've heard is on the You're Not a Rented Audience bootleg.

  • Lovely. Great version. Thanks for posting.

  • Incredible performance by Van and the entire band.

  • Wonderful!

  • Compare this w/the original and the Hollywood Bowl concert. THIS is the best.

  • Do you believe he was live w/Regis doing Sweet Thing. He actually spoke. And smiled.

Listen to the original vs. this. Better 40 years later. Older and wiser. As we all are.

  • From the best VTM bootleg ever (Live in Montreux)! And probably the best version of this song ever. Fantastic to see this video and sooo much better than Hollywood Bowl.

  • no says Sugar Baby like Van

  • not a bad version this, and i got that vibe from him thinking of sweet girls i new

  • I'm a massive Van the Man fan so it's sad what I'm gonna say now - compare this version with his Hollywood Bowl version and it's clear that the years haven't been kind. This is 100x better than the Hollywood Bowl version.

I TOTALLY disagree with you... I was given the Hollywood Bowl version by my son,...and thought it spectacular,,, I run to it all the time. this has nice horns and things; flutes, and his voice is looser... but listen again to Hollywood Bowl; there is a tightness there that is quite brilliant.. (have you heard this song done by Waterboys??? And, by the way.. think I have the massive fan on you... 35 years of marriage and fell in love to Jackie Wilson Said

  • @vossmeister - love the channel! This is a great version of a great song...keep 'em coming!

  • @vossmeister This is a very nice version of a great song...love the Van videos!

  • Check all my other Van clips on my channel and my favorites.

  • I believe this was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 11, 1990. I have the audio version of it on cd ('Down By Avalon'), and it matches...exactly. He also did a killer version of "Northern Muse" at this show, turning the song inside-out from the studio version. I like it (NM) much better than the mechanical version recorded for the "Beautiful Vision" cd. Your results may differ; objects in mirror are closer than they appear, etc.

  • @blues917

yeah this is definitely Montreux '90

  • I really like this version

  • I vaguely remember seeing this on a network show years ago. I would say it's from around '90, during the "Enlightenment" period. The sound quality's not great but what a great performance. What a great band he had during this time, one of my favorites. Van's voice is in fine form and this was before the hat and sunglasses came out.

  • I've never seen this bfore...thanks for the post.

  • did you get this video from youtube ?

  • @griffithlistener no I found it on Kazaa years ago and had it on VCD like most of my other stuff
