John Lennon didn't write this, it was originally written & recorded by Larry Williams. Williams also wrote "Bad Boy" which was also covered by The Beatles.
RIP John Walker. The guitar he's playing in this clip was sold a year later (for $60!) to none other than Jeff Beck, in the Yardbirds at the time. Jeff used it to record most of the hit songs he did with the Yarbirds, like "Heart Full of Soul" & "Shapes of Things". Jeff eventually gave it to Seymour Duncan, who then loaned it to the London Hard Rock Cafe, where it's still on display.
That's John Maus on the left, and Scott Engle on the right...
Scott and John had individually and jointly made records in the U.S. before they formed a trio with Gary Leeds; The Walker Brothers.
At the advice of Gary, who had been on tour in England with singer P.J. Proby, the decision was made to try it in that country - after lack of success in California.
This is the same Fender Esquire used by Jeff Beck on all the early Yardbirds hits -he bought it from the Walker Brothers for 75 pounds - it is now owned by Seymour Duncan and is a very historic collectable.
Beck interview: I wanted a maple neck and the only one I ever saw belonged to John Walker from the Walker Brothers. The Yardbirds went on tour with the Walker Brothers early in 65, and I bought it. He wanted 75 pounds, which was a lot of money, it was only about 10 quid cheaper than a brand new and I gave it to him. The battle-scarred Esquire established psychedelia and heavy metal. A young Seymour Duncan, the modern pickup guru eventually acquired the legendary Esquire.
great upload, thank you

That music sounds outdated even by 1964 standards. When did they grow their hair long?

Odoanna - I think the charisma if obvious even at that point. A superior act of its kind and of its day.
