The motor in your continental is different then the Town cars. Town cars have 16 valve V8 while the continental has a 32 valve V8. You are right about the cobra engine but both the Continental and the Cobra stole the engine from the Lincoln Mark VIII.

um no.... the mustang GT is a SOHC engine. Only the cobra got the DOHC. Go pop the hood on a GT it's not a DOHC. now apologize for speakin of things u don't know.
My 1999 Mecury Grand Marquis has the modular SOHC 2 valve (or 16 what ever you wanna call it) V8. I know for a fact because I seen it with my own eyes the GTs have the SAME EXACT BASIC ENGINE!

How can this 4.6L 12V SOHC V8 be better than the Northstar 4.6L 32V DOHC V8? Common sense tells you the Northstar is a higher performance engine. Plus how many of the town car, crown vic, and grand marquise 4.6L are smoking? I have seen countless numbers of them all smoking at startup or under hard acceleration. Plus they love oil. I have had 2 crown vics and 1 town car. I couldn't keep oil in them. Perhaps the newer V8's are better, but the older ones aren't. Don't be bias. Research the facts.
maybe you should learn how to maintain your vehicles if all of them smoke and burn oil. my dad owns three lincolns and NONE of them leak, spit, burn or smoke oil.

there is now way that is a stock 4.6. My dad's 4.6 doesn't run near that fast. They aren't that powerful anyway. Only 240hp and 287ft.lbs. torque. That's nothing compared to the cadillac's northstar with 300hp and 300ft.lbs torque. No to mention the enormous size and weight of the towncar. I think there are some performance mods on this one.
yes it has been modded. But for how much money you have to drop in for the Northstar, this engine is far better then the northstar. It has the potential and the northstar doesn't.

you have to remember though, they are two very different cars, town car; would be more cruiser family size car, the sc is an attempt at a sports car alot smaller thus less weight and better performance.
no not really, american v8s are tried and proven, and there are extremely few engines better than the 302 Ford and 350 Chevy. and those two engines are aincient compared to the 4.6
i didn't say/don't know anything about the reliability but im sure both would go through testing. it's not just me, but many others say town car needs an update like Cadillacs did.
yes it could use an update, hopefully thy will bring the MKR concept into production as the next Town Car, or better yet, if they call it the Continental Mark IX

ya, im a ford guy too. and baisically i agree with you. the 350 chevy and 302 ford are some of the best engines ever built. chevy's 305 was good in the 60s when it was set up for high rpms, but lter versions were crap. the 281 (4.6) and 331 (5.4)are from the same block and are good engines, the dohc 281 being exceptionally good. as for gms 327 (5.3) its not a bad engine, but its just not up to par with the 331. i also think ford FE series engines were great, auch as the 390, 427, and 428

Lincolns are one of the best cars in the world iam serious, my father amd i bought a 1991 back in '93 and it we SOLD it with half a million miles on the original motor..the transmission did get a rebuild at 300,000 thousand miles. this guy gave him 1 grand for it now my father owns a 2002 with 280 thousand miles on it and never a problem

Now I have them both. but I'm gonna sell the Toyota Corolla. I paid for this Corrolla twice as much as the TownCar, but the TownCar is way better, comfortable, Luxurious n powerfull!

I have a stock '01 towncar and it's a blast. I have driven that same sc430 model though, and that was the ride of my life. The lexus just feels like it's launching you down a rollercoaster or something. Both cars are amazing to drive, but i'd trade the towncar for that lexus any day.
Do a search for town car limos for sale. They routinely have over 300,000 miles with virtually no problems. Do search on the satisfaction of the owners.
Not to mention taxi cabs.. over 300K... why do you think they use them? You think an LS400 is more reliable or economical? Where's the proof? They get up towards 200K and become like old caviar left out to rot. The TC still runs tight.
Lol, putting three thousand into a TC might make it beat out a 430 in the quarter, but driving in a single straight line doesnt show anything - the SC430 has double wishbone suspension and it is much lower, meaning it has pretty amazing handling for such a heavy car... not to mention, it will last for a good 200,000 miles before requiring any serious mechanical repairs, while the lincoln on the other hand...

The motor in your continental is different then the Town cars. Town cars have 16 valve V8 while the continental has a 32 valve V8. You are right about the cobra engine but both the Continental and the Cobra stole the engine from the Lincoln Mark VIII.

As a Crown Vic owner I can vouch for the power in these cars. They WILL put you back in the seat if you give it to em. And they do it VERY smoothly.
I also get 22 mpg average combined city/highway with the A/C on 90% of the time!
These cars are MUCH better than people think they are!

yes it has been modded. But for how much money you have to drop in for the Northstar, this engine is far better then the northstar. It has the potential and the northstar doesn't.

Still hard to believe the linclon was able to beat the much smaller lexus like that goes to show the 4.6 is a very good engine.
That SC is more of a sports coupe vs luxury car so by class this was in the lexus's favor.

ok im a huge fan of the towncar, i actully own a 97...they are awsome cars..there really not ment for the drag strip though..u wanna bring a lincoln to the drag strip then bring in the 01 contintel....fuckin fast as hell..will throw your head into the seat in the city and highway....it has a 4.6 l v8 and a very fast tranny.....the contintel will take down most cars on the road..im lucky that my dad owns 1....anybody who's been in 1 will know about the power im talkin about

Town Cars have really bad engine with heavy body.
Towncar's 4.6L makes 240hp and 287lb/torque with 15/23 MPG....Lexus' 4.6L does 380hp and 367lb/torque with better mpg of 16/24....
That coupe(LEXUS SC) has actually 4.3L, smaller than Town Car but achieves higher hp&torque and,,, faster 0-60.
It is obvious that town car has mod installed, etc if the coupe lost.

you have to remember though, they are two very different cars, town car; would be more cruiser family size car, the sc is an attempt at a sports car alot smaller thus less weight and better performance.

Actually it should be compared to LS which has 4.6 with 380hp and ~360lb torque
My point is that while Lincolns are nice, their engines are Really old and in need of updates.

no not really, american v8s are tried and proven, and there are extremely few engines better than the 302 Ford and 350 Chevy. and those two engines are aincient compared to the 4.6

i agree 100%, im a ford guy, gm 350 is an extraordinary engine, ford 302 is amazing while gm 305 is terrible, and the 4.6 is awesome, ford's 5.4 is a good engine, i don't like gm's 327 engine though, my point is american cars are amazing, buy american

ya, im a ford guy too. and baisically i agree with you. the 350 chevy and 302 ford are some of the best engines ever built. chevy's 305 was good in the 60s when it was set up for high rpms, but lter versions were crap. the 281 (4.6) and 331 (5.4)are from the same block and are good engines, the dohc 281 being exceptionally good. as for gms 327 (5.3) its not a bad engine, but its just not up to par with the 331. i also think ford FE series engines were great, auch as the 390, 427, and 428

Not sure if I'm the only person who noticed, but the driver of the SC430 had quicker reaction. That proves the guy in the Lincoln is an old geezer.
I've never seen a Lincoln so fast. It wasn't much faster than the SC400. I'm guessing that Lincoln driver wasted a lot of money on modifications.
I would still buy the Lexus over that Lincoln.

Lincolns are one of the best cars in the world iam serious, my father amd i bought a 1991 back in '93 and it we SOLD it with half a million miles on the original motor..the transmission did get a rebuild at 300,000 thousand miles. this guy gave him 1 grand for it now my father owns a 2002 with 280 thousand miles on it and never a problem

I bought a 2002 Corolla a couple of weeks ago. it was too small n noisy. but about 3-4days ago, one of my friends hooked me up with a lower who wanted to sale his 98 TownCar. I drove for a couple of minutes and... fell in love with it!
Now I have them both. but I'm gonna sell the Toyota Corolla. I paid for this Corrolla twice as much as the TownCar, but the TownCar is way better, comfortable, Luxurious n powerfull!

I have a stock '01 towncar and it's a blast. I have driven that same sc430 model though, and that was the ride of my life. The lexus just feels like it's launching you down a rollercoaster or something. Both cars are amazing to drive, but i'd trade the towncar for that lexus any day.

Do a search for town car limos for sale. They routinely have over 300,000 miles with virtually no problems. Do search on the satisfaction of the owners.
Not to mention taxi cabs.. over 300K... why do you think they use them? You think an LS400 is more reliable or economical? Where's the proof? They get up towards 200K and become like old caviar left out to rot. The TC still runs tight.

Lol, putting three thousand into a TC might make it beat out a 430 in the quarter, but driving in a single straight line doesnt show anything - the SC430 has double wishbone suspension and it is much lower, meaning it has pretty amazing handling for such a heavy car... not to mention, it will last for a good 200,000 miles before requiring any serious mechanical repairs, while the lincoln on the other hand...
