you cant seriously compare a commercial sellout like john mayer to davy knowles?? Ive seen knowles live 3 times, once with Gov't Mule. hes got pure talent. and his tone was much better when he was playing his strat btw.. it was cleaner bc of the single coil instead of the buckers.

hmmmm...i think they're different...John Mayer is a mega player but in terms of blues i'd say Davy is better...but like that dude said i would be interesting to see how he'd write a pop song/ play in it. That's where Mayer i think trumps him. But what about a tune together? i think that would be awesome!

Yea Mayer can play the blues. His tone is amazing but it's the same as hendrix's and Stevie's. It gets old after a while. In my opinion Davy has the best tone out there- A PRS model plugged into a Budda. It tdoesn't get much better than that.

Davy is a good guitarist and Paul gave him the endorsement because of the bright light future he has in front of him. Check him out on a couple of the PRS Roadshow dates this month. Look for him at the next Crossroads. Plus, with friends like Townsend it's hard to go wrong in this biz. All said he's not better than Mayer but probably will be one day. Mayer is way good and highly under-rated. My .02 IMHO. Peace, C

i tend to think it's the exact opposite. Mayer isnt much of a vocalist, but is a phenomenal guitarist. Davy is a great guitarist as well, but I'd give Mayer the edge

I just saw Back Door Slam at ACL and they are very very good. Davey is also very humble. I met him after the show. And as for John Mayer...he is up for D Bag of the year. They guy can play for sure but is a total dolt. Makes me care much less about his music when he is a such a dweeb. Especially when there are plenty of talented blues guitarists out there like Davey to listen to and support who are not. IMO.

lance lopez, joe bonamassa, wes jeans, jesse davey, john amor, jason leroy, jimmy thackery, popa chubby, craig erickson, stoney curtis, warren haynes, doyle bramhall II, derek trucks...many many more, you want me to go on i will, it is very very apparent you listen to pretty much no blues rock at all and those were only players from that genre, there are many others. don't say dumbass things like that any more im so sick of kids talkin about how the players from this gen suck out of ignorance

he's very good, id like to see some more unique phrasing from him though that's what really sets the great ones apart. right now joe bonamassa and derek trucks are at the top of their game, both breaking ground in electric guitar.
