Everyone is an artist now.

Back then, it wasn't that everyone didn't have the opportunity to succeed in the industry, it was that then, you had to earn it. You had to grind, sometimes for YEARS just to get put on. These days, everyone knows how the industry works, even your grandma and mailman knows what ASCAP and Soundscan is.

The standards to even be an artist are too low, the bar is set too low.

Unless these artists continue to be independent, they'll always have to change their music. No one wants to be small time/underground/on "buzz status" forever. Everyone wants a chance to reach the masses, and in that case, you and your music has to go thru some sort of change.
