Thats always been India's problem: The government isn't centralized enough to make efficient decisions.
The world is different, and its not just Evil Chi-coms vs Freedom loving Democracy. Thats what the neo-con politicians spin it as. Ask any engineer/businessman in the tech industry, and they'll tell you China is one of the freest and most well funded places for hi-tech investment.
China probably funded their tech development with American war bonds from 5+ years Iraq war.

I guess the overall idea is that purchasing two struggling luxury car marques is "cool", and gives pride to the ppl, but the country needs a centralized plan for invigorating the economy. Even Bill Gates said that a sound economy cannot be solely based on IT services without manufacturing. A huge part of the tech industry is in fact in manufacturing, because it encompasses product development. Thats how Intel does so damn well.

India has potential but it must reform its gov, infrastructure, and deal with immense poverty before it can catch up with China.
We can all knock China for bad toothpaste and GI Joe figures.....but the reality is high tech investment in China is unparalleled. India has yet to build a semiconductor fab, because it doesn't have the infrastructure. China meanwhile has Fab 68 from Intel, and numerous other facilities from Taiwanese chip manufacturers.

2.India has shown its quality in Steel production ( Bhilai Steel Plant exports high quality engineering steel to NASA)
3.High quality Drugs for cheaper prices.
4.High quality Surgerical equipments too.
5. High quality Mobile communication systems thanks to satellites launched by ISRO

Everybody's overhyping Indian ownership of a car company. Have Indian cars ever been tested in the field? What does a crash test of the Nano car look like? Come to think of it, Indian products haven't developed a reputation for quality and reliability. Have independent international groups conducted reliability tests of Indian cars?
I'm sure India can churn out great products, but that will be several several decades from now. Quality control is a science that takes experience to master.

Funny you should bring up a Ford F-150. Actually, I have a Ford truck from 1965 that has gone far more miles than my Rovers and required far, far fewer repairs. I'll never own a rover again. Think of it, a truck from 1965 that gets more miles on it every week than a Rover just a few years old.
Brake problems, wiring problems, cooling system problems.. Ah, the Land Rover experience!

Land Rover had the best year in its history last year; if ford were smart they would hold on to them. Personally I'm glad Ford sold the companies. Tata motors are worth 3x more then GM is.

Too much hatred between India and Pakistan, thats true. You see this was an unnecessary problem created by the British. If it was up to me, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and possibly Sri Lanka would all be consolidated into one unit and anyone who got in the way of that would be crushed. There would be no room for political drama. I would be the king and people would be forced to concentrate on things that matter. For example, proper education, research and development, health etc

Just from little bits I've heard from here and there I think Tata will be good for the brands. They have more money to put into them.
Most people will continue to buy LR/Jag because its status and there have been problems w/ breakdowns etc. but I think they have come a long way. I've yet to have problems with my 07' RR or my 07' Lr2

That is right, at least India is the closest economic and political ally the U.S. and Europe have over there. Can you imagine Communist China owning two of the most classic car production lines in the west?. The Indian car industry is not too bad, they will probably will do a decent job at. Just like they said about Gone with the Wind cast selection of Vivian Leigh as Scarlet O'Hara, better a Brit than a Yank. In this case better an Indian Elephant than a Chinese Panda to take them over.

The luxury car sector in India is growing at 28% per year - well above the general growth in the Indian car market (about 17% per year) so for Tata to invest in a luxury brand that wealthy Indians will see as a 'home' product is quite a sensible move. Ford has been good for Jaguar but Ford's current design rationalisation plans would not be good for them.

India has become a faster growing car market than even the U.S. TATA is racking it in. Maybe they can manage all the divisions better than Ford. That would mean we might see TATA vehicles here in a few years.
