That was actually quite a stupid idea to shut down those engines. If he messed up the approach, he has no engines to perform a go-around. Not a smart move by the pilot, unlike what the announcer said. better play it safe than sorry
@minimusmax If you are not a pilot, you should not be allowed to comment on the pilot's decisions. The POH explicitly states to turn off all engines and equipment prior to an emergency landing. This prevents the aircraft from erupting into flames. Contrary to what you think: If it's incredibly unsafe to not have an opportunity to go around, then nobody would have the balls to fly a glider. Glider pilots NEVER have that opportunity, yet most of them are still alive.
Superb !!! Wish i could do that so smooth with gear down ...But oh well , I can dream .HAHA . If anyone meets this pilot buy him a beer from me .!!!!. John . Would like to hear from the pilot if he ever reads this post . jmclay06@yahoo.com.
Great landing, the fuselage being so close to the ground would have given a bit of ground effect; compressing the air under the aircraft to allow it better float. Nice work, right on the centreline too.
If this ever happens to me I'd be worried about the engine tear down. A gear up landing is certainly not life threatening, although it makes for good TV news.
For those who wanted Make and Model: It looks like a Raytheon, Beechcraft King Air B-100. The B has Airresearch Engines identifiable by the low, rearward exhaust stacks. The PT6 engine has high and forward stacks. A King Air Pilot. L Wiley.
Very incredible!!! Text book perfect. He is probably a professional pilot flying a charter for vip's. I doubt there are many normal private pilots, even with a twin certification and complex ticket... that can do an emergency landing like that under pressure so well!!!
i hate when the journalists try to act like they know what they're talking about. I have a jrn degree and it irritates me to hear people act like they know what they're talking about when they actually don't!
Wow! Perhaps the best gear up emergency landing I've ever seen. From the outside the landing seems even smoother than if the gear were down! Very good control!
i just tried to do that on fs x during one hour, finally, i died more than hundred times ^^

Safe would be in order for the plane not to catch fire to shut down the fuel lines, so to stop the engines. They did an excellent job

Some pilots cant make a landing that good with the landing gear working correctly.
