Responding to old post Cane Corso can be aggressive if trained that way much like any other dog in the world. Only thing with the Corso is they can be stuborn you have to make sure the dog knows your the alpha male or it will try and dominate you. When you walk the dog makes sure you walk in front of him this way he knows your walking him and not the other way around. Very protective especially over children. Great dogs I own one and he's amazing.
My Corso is from true Cerebus champion bloodlines. She is the mellowest, sweetest, most good natured and obediant dog I have ever owned. When she percieves a threat , she will ferociously defend family or home without fear. 120 lbs of pure muscle with a tremendous bite is no joke. The key difference between Pit and Corso is the intellegance level. If my dog goes after someone/thing it will stop immediatly when commanded - or protect us with her life, if needed.
Belligerance and out of control aggression do not make a home protection dog, that makes them dangerous. For a home/family defender, I have never had or seen a better breed than a Corso. Their mix of intelligence and brawn, their protective instinct and love toward members of its family are unmatched. Im sick of the Pit Vs Corso argument. Most Pits are poorly bred and out of control, either because of their stock or idiots training for aggression.
How did two dogs playing in the snow turn into a philosophical debate about dog lineages, ethics of surgical procedures (ear cropping ), dog fighting and personal attackes on peoples dog choices? No wonder we can't have world peace. To owner, any advice for first time corso owner. Have obviously done all research but know there's something I wont know till she gets here. thanks.
I don't think people should have dogs if they think it'll make them more macho. Go weight lift or something instead. A dog is a dog regardless of temperament. Doesn't matter what human-made BREED it is, it's an animal! Good lord, going through dozens of breeds to find which one would best define your aggressive masculinity is a stupid idea because they won't.
@Zedblue where can i buy one of these dogs from..... I wnt a big dog im 6'7" 275lbs and i wnt a big dog lol....how big did yours get or are they allready full grown?
@Zedblue ok help me out here plz! I REALLY love this kind of dog! can you tell me where i can buy one of these. yes i have lots of dog experience so the whole domination thing shouldn't be too much of a challenge. like what kind of stores might have these? or do you have to import them? also about how big do these get full grown compared to a common Labrador? Thank you!
no dog is born to be mean it has the qualities to be mean but its not born that way and the "dangerous dogs" are usually hard to train but when trained correctly there the most loyal and will do anything for u to make u happy... great dogs tho
""Cane Corso temperament should be very dominant and wary of strangers. well thats all lies """
Er your baseing that on what ? read the breed standard , all decent breeder websites and ask people that own them rather than make up things with no personal knowledge
i love these dogs please help me get a corso please help me i live in california san gabriel valley please help me my boxer pup can use a bro or sis to play with please help me
But Cane Corso are not for everyone and most can end up getting hurt because they bought a dog that is very tough and very dominant. Takes a lot of work to get dogs to be as they are meant to be and most people are not willing to do so.
I agree, we have a male Corso, and while he's a great dog, it took a lot of work and firm training to get him to where he is now. They're definitely a committment and not a breed for the first time dog owner. I always see comments from people on this site asking where they can get these dogs, and I don't think people realize how dominant the Corso can be. My boyfriend has two pits before we got Thor, and he said that pits are a cakewalk compared to a Cane Corso.
Yeah, I wanted a Cane Corso but I never thought I could handle the size of it and the dominance level of it. I have a Doberman, Pomeranian (my princess! lol) and getting a Catahoula Leopard Dog in a month or so, I've been a fan of elegant, hyper, agile dogs than massive and powerful dogs like Cane Corso, although I do want a Greater Swiss Mountain DOg later on in life!
Cane Corso temperament should be very dominant and wary of strangers. well thats all lies its more scared of you then you should be scared of it. and wont stay to protect it home and family. cane corso breed isnt all cut out like they say this breed is

this dog vs dog talk is a load of crap...dog fighting is messed up man..why would you want a dog that will attack other dogs? How does that aid in personal protection? In terms of personal protection, the corso is awesome because they are big but not too big to run fast and jump high. When doing attack training with my boy he flew through the air and slammed my trainer straight on his ass and held him there. Thats more what I want out of a protection dog than what pitbulls provide.
@humboldtlocal totally agree with you, i personally have a pitbull and i love him to death and i made sure that he got trained from the bat never was allowed to jump on me and things but they have such a bad rep that he is just gonna be my buddy but i want a cane corso or a dogo argentino and get them doing protection work Brody, my pit is going to start weight pull training when he is old enough
@humboldtlocal You shouldnt need a dog to protect you, you should handle your own shit. Pitbull prove own thing when it comes down to it....hardwork and determination pays off.
Your a fool!Theres a difference between a dog that was bred to bite/fight other dogs and a dog that wasnt! thats why they dont fight corsos or rotties against bull terrier breeds ! I should know as my mates got one thats a scarey dog and would bite anybody, but it is scared shitless of my Ebull terrier! the coros jaw dont lock and its to heavy to hang off anything! its allso tired out in less than 5 min play fighting lol!

And for the record ,i didnt knock the corso, they are great gaurd dogs, but to say they are great fighting dogs is just silly!
They are to big to fight,if they got fought against a pit bull or an english bull terrier they would soon lose! Because of there size they would be gassed out with in 5min! English bull terriers and Pitt bulls can fight for an hour lol! corsos aint bred for fighting other dogs!
I don't know why most on here think size counts when its dog against dog???
This theory has been dis proved many many times over the century's! Bull terrier types have always been proved to be the best dog fighters! doh cause thats what they was bred for! The smaller dog with a better bite and power to weight ratio is what makes the best dog fighter! Bull terriers are the K9 pound4pound kings!
spoken like a true person that dont know shit about cane corsos. I've been raising corsos for 5 yrs, I dont fight my dogs, but my female was harassed by a pit and my female killed it. My friends male (one of my pups) had the same thing happen pit ran up on him and my friend was stuck with a hefty vet bill. the corso is not like other mastiffs there very fast and athletic.
bigGypp0, it all depends on how you train them. My Corso's would most likely rip the jugular out of anything that threatened me or my family or would die trying. That includes your bull terrier. Remember bigGypp0, we are talking about a 60 pound dog that was bred to hunt vermin lol!

Socialization is the most important thing!!! They can be very protective they aren't agressive they're DEFENSIVE! Expose to cats cars horses and crowds every chance you get. Train them because they're stubborn. Walk them at least every morning or you'll be replacing drywall.
@Zedblue we have a corso we got from another owner at a year n a half old she has issues from that owner abusing her n she told us that for her breed you cannot let her off leash with another dog its dangerous is that tru
I had got a dog like yours, unfortunately now it's dead, it happens two days ago. the wound it has got on its leg has become infected, so we called a veterinary to solve the problem but he suggested us to treat it with antibiotic. well, after the treatment of two weeks it dead and we think it is his fault cause the dog before all of this was in a perfect health!
Okay, then I'll cut your ears off against your will, and as rediculous as you look, it will be a part of YOUR breed standard. Then YOU can get over it, mmkay? Wasn't even asking for YOUR opinion, darlin
If it doesn't hurt, what does it matter? Are you saying the dogs look rediculous, because they don't. It's carrying on the breed standard, but also has health benefits -- like keeping away ear infections.
Yeha she came with her ears cropped. My first dog is natural I liked the cropped look better but once I got Lucy I couldn't picture cutting off my puppy's ears. Then when I ordered Isadora the breeder had already cropped hers and I was fine with it. In other words given the choice I'd leave them natural but it is typical for the breed and I'm not against it if it's done by a vet when they're young.
Yeah, I mean, I respect peoples' opinions, I just don't like it, basically because it puts the pup through quite a bit of pain early on. Just to let you know, that snappy comment I made wasn't towards you, it was for that other person. You have cute dogs tho.
why you cut his tail? :(

You have cute dogs tho.

ear cropping is no big deal. they're "in pain" for a couple days but that goes away.
heck.. women are in pain for a week every month.. does that mean you're against periods too
