Fred Astaire doing his own unique version of the 'Footsee' to this awesome slice of Detroit Soul. 45 years on I salute the miracle that was the Motown sound.
Yep and I was one of the those Northern Soul lads, except I was dancing in the 70s, Crew, Cardiff, Birmingham, Wigan, and a little known youth club in Aldridge. OHHH the memories.
This track is ageless. 1966 it came out a lots of mods, rude boys (later skinheads) and northern soul boys (UK) would have danced their socks off to The Contours at The Torch Stoke, Wigan Casino, Twisted Wheel Manchester and Leeds Central ....... to name but of few clubs. White working class kids were buying and playing this stuff - Motown, Stax, Atlantic etc. - years before US Radio stations were playing it to mainstream listeners & audiences. We were so cool then and still are now.
when ever i in a bad mood or sad i put this song and vid on and in secs i am smiling great track, and you know could thos 2 dance .(Thats the way to pick the girls up )
What a fabulous track from the great Contours, and the dancing aint bad either. Thanks for the post it brought many shivers of joy back to an old timer.

Why have they replaced the original sound track for this one which has NOTHING to do with this style of dancing. Surely you can tell or do you not know the difference.
Maybe I'm wrong and they fitted polystyrene taps on their tap-shoes.
Oh Yeh< Remember I Loved dancing to this in the Old Wheel, I was known as Rocky from Liverpool in those days. Too see this fantastic dance routine WOW.
Doc, Not wanting to be sycophantic your postings are incredible and are all saved to my favourites but I would like to ask you as an obvious soulman why is it that people don't realise that Northern Soul has nothing to do with the real soul of the 70s as played in the Wheel,Torch, Bluenote,Top of the Town etc
no - they aren't dacning to the contours - I did in teh 60s - but c'mon - leave a classic A-L-O-N-E !! it is stronger with original music - watch Begin the Beguine
Hi docludi....Haven't been able to get this clip up for a while,,,,Have missed my daily dose :-).......Just superb.....Will always love this....Like to think of myself as a dancer.....I f only I could manage a quarter of this :-) Take care....Steve

Why the supreme assumption that Powell and Astaire would want to have their dancing attached to this bloody racket?
They are not dancing to The Contours. It's just been crudely nailed on to their genius.
If they were alive today they would undoubtedly sue.
Not for money but for the Death Sentence!
Who ever did this. You just have no idea, do you?

Big sign on the wall outside proclaimed it to be the "biggest discotheque in the world".
