@delv213 Older Emo music started generally from punk bands mellowing themselves out a little bit, going for more melodic sounds and less yelling bad british accents into the mic. Some bands branched into what would later become alternative (when the label was more of a catch-all). That was basically older emo in a nutshell, kind of a dirty sounding alternative. Fast-forward from the mid to late 80's into the early 00 and the label of emo got hijacked by pansies (with minor transitional bands).
