Little curiosity: Japanese realized an instrumental cover of this masterpiece and they used it in end titles of movie "The Crazy Family" (Gyakufunsha kazoku) in 1984.
Love the video, Vinyl. The gritty pixilation is like seeing the world as one goes under anaesthesia, and consciousness disintegrates while one is still conscious of consciousness--or seeing this vale of tears through a veil of tears.
This song, to me, is about transformation into change. Taking into account how our mindsets change year from year and then one day we say it always worked before... but not today.
One of my Absolute favorite OMD songs ...certainly my favorite b-side from them, from an amazing single...I always thought Thirty Three by the Smashing Pumpkins borrowed a similar vibe to this song..both gorgeous songs..still play 'em side by side..
Native Lights have a brilliant cover of this song on their Blackwater 7" Single. Unable to post the link, but you can listen on Facebook or Reverbnation.
Wonderful. I never get bored of Dazzle Ships. In this 'X Factor' world nobody would have the guts to do something like this. Dazzle Ships is unique and cannot be compared to anything else. Other than Organisation and A&M few records come close to it's beauty - maybe New Orders P,C & L - As for the last 10 years only John Foxx Tiny Colour Movies and Black Neon Art's and Crafts worth a listen
I've always enjoyed OMD my entire life but never explored their less known songs.... This song which I just discovered today..... is hauntingly beautiful! I can't believe I spent all these years without this!
this track haunts me. this -above all others - was the background music to the sad split with g/friend. strange how after all these years it triggers memories sad and happy at the same time.
It was the B-Side of Maid of Orleans (not Joan of Arc the Waltz Maid of Orleans) and was planned as their last song forever in fact Andrew and Paul were burned out 1982.
We had the good look, that this did not happened.
it is a song such as this by omd which makes music sound as good as it is by one of the groups who gave all they had to make records people always liked listening to.
Hey you lot who rave about 80s music bieng the best..its not the music that made the eighties its the memories of your teenagehood and being free to do what you wanted to do ..it was called growing up..this music was in the background so will always seem special...people who grew up in the 90s will be saying the same obout that music to..........ps...80s was the best though...by far.
although a teenager in the 80's, i recently discovered OMD and after a few months listening, this music is timeless. i enjoy with my spirit the beauty conveyed and hope i always have access to their recordings when i feel the need for a certain lift - OMD i thank you.
This is very sad in a way. This type of music...beautiful and haunting, has in a sense passed away. Todays so called "music" is testament to that.(all that screaming and hollering and sex and drugs).
Thats not music.
Songs like this that have heart and a soul are no longer. No wonder some of us who grew up in the 80's can't seem to let go. Some of the best music ever written/recorded came from the 80's.
There are... but as it happened with this one, it happens now with them. They become overlooked... Post-rock is a good example. In fact, OATTWD could be classified as very early post-rock...
I CANNOT AGRRE more than every word you wrote. About today's style (ugggh!) and yes it's hard to let go of the 80's. The 80's, you never knew what was coming out next. I could classify it as the experimental age, sounds, instruments, the synthesizer, and many non commercial tracks like what we here, ...right here. Thank you for your comment.
@CruiserLeo2007 Of course they are, you just won't hear them on the radio 'cause most living people are too stupid to get them (and that's a fact)... That's what happened to OATTWM actually.
Of All The Things We've Made is on OMD's 1983 album Dazzle Ships. I played it recently and thought how wonderful their music is-and as you say, so much better than today's so called 'music'!
@CruiserLeo2007 theres alot of great music out there today. its just not shoved into the mainstream anymore. major labels dont want to deal with opinionated artists so they all go to indie labels that dont have the same influence as the majors.
Most true artist never get the recognition for being innovative and creating beauty so original that it can confuse a mass audience upon its release. DAZZLE SHIPS in my opinion is perhaps one of the most important recordings of the 20th century. And this song alone sheds some light of the personal openness an artist must reveal and express to unleash beauty. thank you for making and posting this vid !!!! couldnt hav said any better punchfisttop :) :)
How can I express this feeling! Each beat makes me feel apart from this world...Romantic, dramatic, hypnotic but also fantastic... Thanks OMD... Please come back soon:Liverpool 20th June & your new album: ????

I agree - together with 'Romance of the telescope' + 'International'. I think Dazzle Ships is one of the most confusing and misunderstood albums ever ! A 60/40 record ?
i never really interpreted this song like this, i've always thought of a lonely highway, driving off into the sunset. But everyone has a different vision of this song...
I think you're absolutely right about this song being underrated, this is the most beautiful OMD song ever, it should of been on their 'best of' cd in 1988, but it wasn't.
quite the contrary , I love this song. I wrote so below... I was just funnin' , You know trying a take off of "When Harry Met Sally" I bought this album when it first came out ... Oh about a hundred Years ago , and I still find it innovative and just ... really cool. Sorry if I left the opposite impression.
