disney took this attraction out because it was aging and no kids knew what this ride was about in the 90s so disney decided to take it out, finding nemo came along and a new ride attraction is put in, its for the kids
@omgimapure1 They did a Nemo overlay at the former Living Seas at Epcot. Nothing was ever added to 20,000 Leagues short of the Trident statue in the lagoon after closure. The site was ripped apart in tact.
All I have to say is, if Disney took out this remarkable attraction out, then don't you think there was a good reason for it? Disney wouldn't take out an attraction just for the hell of it.
@ADbowling2000, what I would say is that it depends on your perspective and values. Some people aren't as happy about the perception that Disney has become increasingly about increasing their stockholders' profits rather than their patrons' experiences. Of course Disney had reasons for closing this ride. Whether they are good or not is subjective.
@geminibuzz To be quite honest I know what you mean, but it still feel that Disney did what they did because they are a business and felt that it was too costly to run; it was a money pit from the start. Plus, the part you mentioned about the stockholder profits is absolutly correct. Their loyalty isn't to the guests it's to the stock holders and Disney will do anything to increase profits. They don't give a rats-ass(pardon my french) about you or me as a guest sadly.
I really hope that the management in Disney World is regretting the decision to close this ride after seeing the success of the newly reopened Submarine Voyage in Disneyland. Imagine how well this could have been updated. :(
we don't.. it cost over 1.2 millon every year just to keep it going.. Plus the subs were ALWAYS breaking down. and the guide wheels under the sub kept on snapping.. It was just a money pit from day one, and the ride technology was so out dated it was being pasted up by the the other rides in the park.. I do have some of the props from the ride for sale if your intrested let me know..
No wonder this ride haunts me to this day! It's a damn shame they shut it down, especially to replace it with that AWFUL Nemo ride. Thanks a ton for posting this!
This is one of my favorite memories from my childhood! I think I was around 4 or 5 when we went on this. The part with the mermaids at 6:40 is what I really remember about this ride. I thought the mermaids were real :) I wish I could be a kid again! Thanks for posting this video!
Even when I was a kid the Submarine Voyage at Disneyland was my favorite ride and now that it is open again I go on it at least twice everytime I go to Disneyland. I love it!!! Great video, thanks for posting this because I never got to ride this one.
wow this view on that side of the ride lets you see the other nautilus subs as you get under way. When I rode it i was on the opposite side and did not see that at all. I wish I had. It's great you caught that too!
they closed it because the lack of it breaking down, the time to load people on and off, and the space. they should have something like this again soon at disney woorld
They closed it because they were cheap. It was expensive to maintain, but worth every penny. Here is a quote from 20kridedotcom "All I can say is, the bastards! They scuttled our dreams just to save a few million dollars. What a bunch of bastards".
I miss this ride so much. Thanks for bringing it back on youtube. What a stupid idea to close it. At least the subs will be back at Disneyland this summer. I can't wait!

Thing is, 7 years ago it had been closed for 7 years.
And Disney didn't officaly admit it until 3 years later.

Yes, the smell of Pooh and his tree house has taken over Nemo's lagoon. How sad.
