  • I would use this in a prank

  • Hurrah for Tachikoma model 1!

  • Music was terrible

  • Yeah, but can you SIT on it?

  • Jimmy Neutron's dog can do that in a fraction of the time!

  • awesome

  • i bet the Autobots and Decepticons in Transformers can do it faster!

  • ∑8≠ O …get your plasma pulse rifles people ,the end of the wold was four years ago

  • kinda feel like i just watched the power rangers's new megazord in action...

  • Ok, i normally sit on my chair, but this is amazing, too

  • How much time and energy was spent on this?

We can build a robotic self re-assembling chair and yet we're still stuck with the Chevy Volt? Puh-leez.

  • Who would fund this? Oh it was probably Obama...

  • Great. You make self reassembling robots? Very smart. This will be the beginning of the robot uprising.

  • @sammywell err, the self assembling feature is only in our Furniture series 2.0

shall we move on tho the deathray robots and war machines out in an open area?

  • I'm guessing the chair is wobbly

  • We're in a restaurant.

A fat man sits on the chair for five minutes and it collapses (I've just hit the self destruct button).

The fat guy goes to complain to the manager only to return bewildered and find his chair completely unbroken, while people laugh at him for being a clumsy fatty.

    Yup . . . That's what I'd use for.

  • They should make GM cars like this, so when they fall apart...

  • Yeah yeah its all fun and games till the chair becomes self aware and tears your fucking dick off

  • Why would anyone want a chair that did that? I mean its cool but........ why?

  • he/she/they figured out how to do it, relised they could and did it to see it happen, its the same reason people write computer programs or drawn or modify cars, its not so much owning the end product its realising and creating it

  • @elsparx It's not really a chair (well not really meant to be sat on any way). It's a robot specifically designed to pioneer technology that allows it to assemble itself in the most efficient manner depending on where the parts landed. Basically it knows where the parts fell, and what orientation they fell in, and can figure out which order to pick them up.

  • i knew it the terminators are comming

  • happily spending you tax dollars on some bullshit chairs that we used on steve last week. hilarious.

  • They should just weld that chair together and then they would not have to go to all of the trouble of making a robotic re-constructor.

  • Quite an incredible sight! But, what is the use of this? Where would these kind of chairs be used? Is it a hint of what can be done in our near future to other things? ...hmmm....

  • imagine a house that could do this

  • My penis does that.

  • lmfao hahaha

  • now that sir is a video youtube has been soarly lacking

  • @CreateAGod what the fuck nigger fdsioosoooooo fucking nigger fucnnnyn

  • this would be fun to trick your friends lol i can imagine

  • was this done on a million dollar gummint grant?

  • You can save the budget for the Jerry Springer show on chairs. Except I think they would totally injure the participants of the show.

  • LMAO PRANK CHAIR

  • Cool. LOL!

  • neat but rather useless.

  • How is it useless its like the best thing to give to somebody you dont like :P replace their office chair with a self destructing one, with a remote control!

  • but you can always just make a regular chair and unscrew every thing keeping it together.

  • It's art... art doesn't have a purpose - it's just plain cool!

  • It takes 10 minutes for it to go back together, thnx for speeding up and getting to the jist,

  • am i able to sit on this construct? if yes, i woluld ord4er 6 pieces of them XP

  • just y wud you self destruct a chair in the first place y?!?!?!

  • This is an art piece by Canadian artist Max Dean. It doesn't serve any purpose other than being interesting.

  • The purpose is more to show what CAN be done. Imagine self repairing cars? This is just the first step towards greater things

  • Wow. Outstanding. A self-assembling chair. What a boon to mankind. NOT!

  • useless

  • I m not watching this video in full now, but i tell you guys, i;ve seen this first hand in Austria (ARS Electronica). Its the work of an artist, a computer scientist, and a mechanical engineer.

  • cool...

    chim...

  • watch very carefully from 1:03 to 1:05 this vid is fake!!

  • yup you can see the strange frame movement.

The chair leg moves too quickly.

  • g-g-g-g-great shout

  • Has ths creator thought that the feet dont only fall of but mostly really break in half.

And i think this makes the chair more weaker because the small pins + expensive + useless + if your chairs breaks, go buy a new one XP

    And the chair is ugly

  • wow useless

  • Sick.

  • cool ;p

  • it looks so damn fake with all this editing and crap. I wanted to watch it from a fixed angle.

  • Dude, it's real! It's on Discovery Channel in about a year or maybe 2 years ago. The chair can find its parts and reform itself. It's an old news acatully. If you dont believe it, e-mail the Discovery Channel and ask them for reference. Open you eyes to the world man!

  • you're right it is old news....but still very coll

  • I didn't say it was not real. I said it LOOKED fake because there was too much editing, and that I would have preferred if it showed from a fixed angle. Then I would be able to watch it from the same view as if I were standing next to it.

  • holy fuck wher did u get it or did u make it or is it not even yours

  • Wow, really is more than meets the eye!

  • its not exatly ''self healing'', if you set it on fire or take a hammer to it. :p

  • i dont see why everyone feels the need for eveything to have a practical use. why cant we just go 'wow'?

  • Because Youtube is flooded with boneheads that think that everything has to have some kind of functionality. If it was up to those people, the entire human race wouldn't have any art, culture, or history to speak of.

  • -high fives-

    im hearin that. some sense

  • the concept is very interesing, .... ....

  • This may sound stupid, but this prototype demonstrate a self-assembly feature that may be very useful in a near future.

  • lol just imagine someone sitting on it lol

  • WHY? what is the point? :)

  • better dan optimus

  • that chair truly has mental problem :-)

  • What guys is fat enough to need a self repairing steel chair?

  • what a stupid idea

  • I agree

  • Wow a chair falling apart. I mean "wow" could anything be more useless. And it still can't put itself together whitout getting help from a human, so far for self healing.

  • its about robotics you morons not about getting one (fools)

  • I still would NOT get one no matter what you say. Completely useless.

  • With all of those cuts during the rebuild, I am of the opinion that it needed...help rebuilding.

  • why would you want your chair to fall apart?

  • its cool we dont need it but its still cool

  • They're never going to build one or use it, it's more to showcase technology.

  • ya cause we realy need this...last time i checked there wasnt any spontaneouly combusting chairs that ive heard of

  • omg cool i want 1

  • hehe cool nice idea :D

  • why not ? xDDDDD hehe little stupid thing :)

  • and why would i want my chair to destroy itself again?

  • riight. cool invention, video is trashy.

way to repeat the same footage - is that so you could fit more of your buddies music in?

  • would be great in a bar fight, you could just keep picking it and smashing it over someones head, hehehehe.

  • I dont think you can sit on it

  • Uh, this has nothing to do with "self healing". Let me hit it with a sledge hammer and see how well it heals itself. It's not self healing because it never broke. It executed a very precise series of carefully orchestrated hard-to-engineer action given extremely constrained conditions.

  • Well if you are an old woman, lets say... 80 years old, you would think that it fixes itself.

  • ...is it endless? It's impossible to sleep at night if it doesn't stop...

  • useless

  • Not when you drunk

  • and at 2:33 it happens again as the chair assembles itself the second time

  • at 1:04 as its reconnecting the first back leg it appears to get larger suddenly, but the leg is actually jumping slightly off of the ground to reconnect to the main body, it still doesnt mak much sense why unless some frames where cut out of the video right then

  • why at 2:33 does the leg get bigger??? nice edit there

  • i'm not sure - but to me it looks like the pin that goes through the leg actually pushes it towards the camera and lifts it off the ground (making it look larger) - and this makes it look like an edit

    i maybe wrong though :-D

  • really well/smartly made but why a chair?? why not something more useful that actually breaks..... chairs only break when overweight people sit on them and that doesnt happen much so u can sell it to them though.... well done on the mechanics .

  • Nice peace of enginearing

  • Where do i buy one of these?.lol. or tho serioustly can i?

  • nice vid but the freakin music is pissing me off!!!!! argh make it stop!!!!!

  • Is it remote controlled?

  • Why are people on YouTube so pesimistic!

Its a remote controlled Chair that can put itself back together. Thats its point, dont ask whats the point of something is when its obvious.

Whats the point of a new lollypop, nothing... there are 10000s... New Robotic Experiments open the dooors to duture endevors.

  • its not remote controlled its a robot it does it by itself

  • great but what good is it for? i'm not going to spend say 3000 bucks for shit like this!

  • Very impressive! What did you use to identify the locations of the legs to accurately?

  • what would even be the fucking point of wasting money on inventing that dumb shit.

  • BBOX, it can be used to piss off people you don't like. AND IT'S REAL, YOU STUPID FUCKER!!!!

  • its fake it falls the same way every time

  • lol, the clip is about half as long, this just REPEATS itself around at 3:21. but trust me, its real.

  • crazy

  • box you probably think the moon landing is false

  • But is it comfortable to sit on?

  • im sure this is remote controlled, and not robotic

  • Geh, if you know anything at all about programing, this is perfectly feasible. Difficult, yes, and requiring plenty of sensors and some very complicated programming, but it's plenty realistic considering the simple "Roomba" can find its power hookup to recharge.

  • how much does one cost?

  • Even if this movie is fake, something like this is mechanically possible.

  • what that was so fake... i can see the editing... and whats the point of a self destructing chair

  • I'm sorry, I'm not seeing how it's doing this wihout human help. If there was a version of this video without the immense cutting, I might believe it, but no, I suspect this doesn't work without extreme human aid.

  • i have 2 questions for this chair 1.what if the top flips over 2.what if 1 of the leggings is fliped the other way

  • shurley the wheeled module is radio driven by someone ?

  • LOL. Could you imagine a practical joke where the chiar your sitting on just randomly breaks then when you go and tell someone and come back the chair is completly fixed...LOL that would be an awsome practical joke. Oh yeah and this whole teachnolgy that can fix itself..AWSOME idea we need more self-fixing things

  • FAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKEEEEEEE

  • it´s just art. And Art Is Pointless.

  • you idiot. That is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

  • Sorry about the negative comment. It's easy to bang something out on a keyboard when you can't see the person behind the written word. Hexachordal might actually be a nice person face to face. Here is my take on the video. . .

  • The robot has little to do with changing our conceptual image of a sturdy comfortable chair. It's not about something meant for sitting if you turn your mind away from its chair form. It's about demonstrating a technology. Instead of a collection of motorized parts and a motherboard, the chair is simply the mode of demonstration. Beyond that you have to use imagination; make new associations, better associations. Pointless? Maybe as a chair, but what else is there?

  • the human mind is an endless reservoir of pointlessness

  • sux to be you if you're sitting in the bugger when it DESTRUCTS!

  • could you sit on this chair?

  • good question. we got a smart chair that can self destruct, move around, repair itself, and make techno music. but can you SIT on it?

  • FAKEEEEE

  • so ein scheiss braucht doch kein Mensch. Da hat wohl jemand zu viel Zeit gehabt!

  • You are ALL missing the point! An exercise like this could greatly benefit the space program! Imagine the Mars rover being capable of repairing itself or being capable of attaching new upgraded equipment that we send to it!! This is NOT a waste of time or resources - it could potentially save billions in the space program.

  • your an idiot.. u think this was all automatic.. geez.. go die u dumb ass

  • this robot was designed to be self reparing and just to resemble a chair ... if you took a bat to it it couldn't repair itself ... there wouldn't be a chance of a practical robot in the near future being able to fix itself ...

  • idiotic use of resources

  • The chair should roll over to you, and give a blow job. And then assemble.

  • looks like BS to me

  • kinda cool but what's the point of it?

  • I don't think the emphisis is on once youve broken the chair. It looks sturdy enough. But, imagine this. You wan't to go on a picnic, you press the dissasemble button on your table sets remote, it all falls apart, you pack te peices into a bag throw it in the car and off you go. Once at the picnic just dump it on the ground press assemble and start cookin the bbq while you wait for your table set to assemble...brilliant!

  • Why did they make it so it can self-destruct?

It'd be far more economical to simply buy another chair than something such as this.

Indeed, one could argue "in years to come.. massproduction" and such points, but what's wrong with the chairs now?

  • OMG! This is so awesome! When my Tio Luis comes over he can finally sit on something more than once. BECAUSE HE IS SO FAT!

  • Totally think this kind of technology is brilliant, but it would have been far quicker to nail it back together :) I'm sure all of this technology will have its uses in the future though.

  • this is awesome, but is the chair sturdy?

  • "Omigawd. The chair can self-destruct and repair. The world as we know it is soon to end." But! In a technological sense. Though we already do have these possibilites and advanced projects happening, it's another thing to see it and have this thought that it's only in a short time that it will not be chairs, but something else. Thinking chairs, murderous chairs, I even chuckled at this video. The years are changing. Technology is on a turning point. The chair can die and live again. Rock on. =D

  • well... thats actually the idea, comment on tecnology, life, yourself... its an aesthetic vision of that. i love it.

  • a chair this will kill u..yeah that is pretty scary...

but yeah this is kool imagine if they programmed a car to do it, every time u crashed it healed itself :D thats an excuse to crash into stuff :D

  • like i said before movies have told us what technology like this will do..........kill us all

  • this reminds of the end sequence of iron giant

  • Wow I'm so glad that we've cured cancer and AIDs and are now onto to creating chairs that can fix themselfs...

  • I saw this project on another site its not automated so whats so great about it

  • that is awesome! but why is it in the comedy section?

  • oh know the chairs can think hahahhahaha

  • The music is funky!

  • Yeah, great, cool and all, but... why the fuck would you need a chair that self-destructs only to reassemble minutes later?! Go. Walk. Outside. Stop. Building. Useless. Stuff.

  • youre too dumb to see the possible applications of this technolog

  • NICE!! (if real...lol :P)

  • I think someone have just a bit TOOO much free time -_-

  • kewl.

  • this is cool and all.... but wut's the point?

  • could you really sit on a chair with hydraulics like that all over it?

  • Okay, even if this was not fake, who needs a chair that can self-destrcut and then rebuild itself ? If it doesn't self-destruct, it will not have to rebuild...

  • ikea upgrade lol

  • man that's fake as hell, they could have done a better job editing....

    maybe then i'd believe it.......

    sure ain't no dancing robots.....

  • there are so many things wrong with this video, it might actualy work but I bet it took a bit of help from humans which is why there is cuts in the video.

  • people hav too much time on their hands...why not go cure a disease or make a tank that can do that? save someones life...whatever..

  • ur mom is fake

  • this is fake

  • WATCH MY ACCOUnt , MY VIDEO AND MY FAVORIteS !! They ARE te BEst good...

There ARE the NARUTO EPISODES 1-60 and naruto movie 1 and 2

a lot of DBZ episodes and movies and one piece movies...

    I WANT Y O U !!! ON YOU TUBE !!

    I AM WATCHING YoU °_°

  • i needs a chair... how much you sale it?

  • its real.

  • As unbelievable as it seems it's true, I met the guy who was prototyping this. He's a Canadian New Media artist named Max Dean.

  • look at the video at 1min and 2 seconds, theres a glitch there the chair leg gets bigger, why? i don'y know but somethings not right about that.

  • That's the perspective of the camera lens. See frames 1:02 to 01:06. As the robot struggle to position the leg into the slot the camera person realizes that it's off center
