in my oppinion yes it is a good game if you're an avid RPG fan that doesn't care about character animation or graphics. Graphics rival close to that of the first mass effect and the gameplay should've been more polished cause it feels like the characters have no real movement or strategy same goes for cover. Doesn't make it a bad game mechanics still work the same and story is possibly one of the best I've heard in a long time. The voice acting is top notch but the characters themselves well...

I'll say close but not similar mass effect had the differentiation between in combat or out of combat but you also had a whole world to explore. In Alpha Protocol the levels are linear in design and the dialouge will only be for some missions such as meeting a contact or exchanging intel.... So Yes and No

@SwEeTcOrE1989 Thats the same thing people said about Parasite Eve which was on of the best RPG's in history. Lack of Medieval themes and magic doesn't mean it's not an RPG. That's one of the reasons the RPG theme is usually as low ranking as Puzzle games in many markets. That or only games like Final Fantasy are allowed to have a monopoly.

Ok uhm, just to make it clear, Splinter Cell is NOT an RPG (Role-playing game), and there are NO other up to date spy games that are RPG's, so that DOES make this the first modern-day spy RPG.

RPG games are games when you make the decisions for your character, and through your actions comes consequenses. That is some of the things that RPG's contains.

sure, but making choices is only one out of many factors that defines a RPG.

for example: In RPG you get to level up and increase your skill in many different things, like accuracy with a weapon, hp, damage or certain skills like going invisible, increased damage or something like that, and RPG contains way more talking where you get a list of choices in the conversation to pick from, from being friendly to attacking the person you are talking to.

@MrBzerk22 The Syphon Filter series for the Playstation consoles was kinda an RPG. The only one I know of was Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain for PS2. You could customize your person, unlock gnew eapons like sarin nerve gas and the FAMAS, and the only way to change the storyline was to either complete or fail an objective from the missions. Is that an RPG?

Not all games are RPGs. An RPG has to have a specific role not just any random soldier or person, they have to have a storyline with depth.

Your definition of the genre is not the industry definition.

RPGs are defined by the game mechanics. The player being" Not just a random solider" is irrelevant.

Using your definition, Fallout 1 would not be a role playing game since the character you create has no back story, and is just a blank "Random" person for the player to shape.

Where as a game like Kane and Lynch would be a full blown RPG.

Also Alpha Protocol is terrible, (at least the pc version).

RPG....Lets analyze what that stands for, Role-Playing Game. in Splinter Cell Conviction you play as Sam Fisher (seems like you are playing the ROLE of someone doesn't it?) and you are a spy on the co-op pack (a co-op pack which has a story to the characters you use...which still seems like a ROLE). Need I provide further evidence or is there still any doubt about this game not being the only modern day spy game?

focusing on graphics shows how shallow ones taste is, if you really give a damn about what you play you'll think about gameplay and replayability, also the option for having mods and a strong mod community.

The graphics are really good especially in HD. As for gameplay, alpha protocol plays like the old splinter cell games where stealth action is more what you're aiming for. But since its RPG, you can shape the game into a little more action but ultimately its a stealth game where you're decisions will impact the games plot.

Alot of people who gave this game a bad review, tried to compare alpha protocol as an action shooter and that's their mistake. alpha protocol is not an action shooter. its more a stealth RPG shooter. timing, avoidance and stealth shots are your best bet to killing an enemy. I have this game for $30 and its really good.
