Have you heard or tried VirtualDub with Deshaker plugin to help stabilize the shaky videos coming from hand held video cameras? If so, could you do a tutorial on how to use it, specifically with the Vado HD? If not, you should check out the video comparisons of before and after using VirtualDub with the Deshaker plugin here on youtube. You may want to use them for your videos.
The description on the Creative Vado HD support page says "preview video clips, transfer to your Mac, convert videos to MP4 format for use in iMovie, edit videos in iMovie." It's new (25 Sep 09). The original video stays on camera; new MP4 copies are on computer.
The software even puts the new MP4 video in an "event" in iMovie so it's surprisingly user friendly.
Hmm, I'd like to see it in action. "Convert for use" sounds like it'll take time to process. The Flip videos can be pulled instantly into iMovie with no conversion whatsoever. I'd love to see this new Vado software in action in a screencast.
The new Creative Vado Central (free) software painlessly imports the video into iMovie. The Vado is also better reviewed by most tech publications (as of Sep 2009 - subject to change).
@ChrisGraceShow HI Chris! thanx for the review. just one question: the new Vado 3rd gen, it only has 4G, how long can it record, some say 2h, but that isnt possible with only 4GB, right?? thanks!
I have a PC so I am thinking the Vado HD seems like a better overall package. It has the mini hdmi to regular hdmi, wide angle lens, 8gb of memory, removable battery, and 2 inch screen...all things the Flip does not have. Also, just from your video, the vado looked a little bit better in low light, but obviously you can't expect a whole lot from them in those situations.
i am confuse.i am try to get video cam.like the flip..but not sure cuz i dont have a MAC.i have a desktop HP..with windows program..would it still work am.
am confuse cuz i be heard all this about only use on cam

P.S. the wide-angle lens on the Vado are great for shots like this ..

excellent points and review !
can you re-encode these two clips and post them side-by-side? (i.e. PiP mode?) that would be great ..

I'll see what I can do. It's not a big deal; runs in a batch. The benefit is that one can use iMovie rather than the /limited/ software on camera.
Makes using Vado with a Mac painless IMHO.

Thanks for the tip. Do you mean there is no re-encoding now?

basicly the only reaso i want the vado more is because i need the cam for skateboarding and the wide angle lens is nice for fast moving objects

That makes sense... I do like the Vado's image and how much of the image it takes in.

Glad I could help! I hope Creative works it out for the next Vado, I liked many other aspects of the camera.

Thanks, that was helpful.

Yeah, if you are on PC I'd go with the Vado. I wish I could have kept it! I just couldn't justify the longer workflow using iMovie on the Mac.
