I saw him play both with Living Colour and Jungle Funk a number of times. Oddly enough, I think it was Jungle Funk first I ever saw him at a concert. It was in Banska Bistrica, Slovakia...Kino Urpin, if I am not mistaken. Small crowd mostly seated, me standing right in front of the stage watching him play while tears were rolling down my cheeks and my pants resonating for the enormous volume. What a memory!
I saw him perform at a clinic in Rochester, NY last night. What a funny, fantastic guy! He's a great drummer. Got him to sign a poser and also shook his hand. Fun night!
@slingerlandrox U R right about that. He's good, absolutely, but there R so many awesome drummers out there it's impossible to know of 'em all. How about Simon Phillips, one great drummer who certainly is very very all round. And then U have Billy Cobham. Just listen when he takes on the kit on his Taurian Matador from his first solo-record Spectrum - that drumming knocks one right in the belly with them double-pedal kickin' totally!
A true original, one of the best drummers of all time period. What other drummer do you know of that is considered one of the top drummers in the music industry in jazz, metal, funk, electronica? None that I know have achieved this status.
@headfake While he is fantastic, saying none have achieved that is an overstatement. There are plenty of versatile drummergreats out there, the first that comes to mind is, of course Vinnie, who we all know has played with practically everyone from jazz to metal to funk to everything in between. I do agree though, that Calhoun is a living legend in his own right
Will may not be in Vinnie's,Dave's or Terry's league probably because he has his own . I know those guys can't do Will's gigs

As an understatement, you could say he's a natural. I saw him at a Jungle Funk gig and he played extremely loudly and intensely the whole show!
