Hunting for your own food is more ethical than buying packaged meats in the grocery store. While raccoon meat is not widely consumed; hunting them keeps the population in check. Quick question, would a coonhound (more specifically coonhound cross) instinctively chase other animals? we are looking at an 8mo old coonhound cross, but we also have horses that we are worried about.
For all those discussing the raccoon.. yes, it is dead. We use road kill for the first stage of this training. Fresh road kill so it doesn't stink like death but still smell like raccoon. We then tie a rope on it, trail it around the yard and put it in a tree. We release the youngster to see if they will find the trail that leads to the raccoon. Just the way it's done, folks.

I do the same thing with my dogs. They're just smaller and so is the quarry. My dogs can tell just from my actions and body language when I'm getting ready to go out and kill critters. They get off on it. I love my working dogs!

In the first 10 seconds of the video or so before the two hounds starts howling, you can still hear tons of howling in the background.

I do the same thing with my dogs. They're just smaller and so is the quarry. My dogs can tell just from my actions and body language when I'm getting ready to go out and kill critters. They get off on it. I love my working dogs!

there was some fine coon hunting in washington d.c. on tuesday there were at least a million coons all bunched together,didnt need the dogs,i bagged a 150 coons my best day hunting, i had trouble with 5 coons they tryed climbing the lincoln memorial,but other than that my best day,dont forget new york city all kinds of coons there they like hanging out in central park,your gonna need the dogs for them good luck my fellow hillbillys.

I love coonhounds! This baying is when they are treeing and mostly they have a soft Arrrugh bark. For an annoying bark, check out the Bichon Frise - cute dog, screechy bark. Coonhounds drool! Coonhounds rule!

my dog got a raccoon in a tree once. it was pretty funny, shes certinly no coon hound but she was barking and howling her little head off. i like the way you train your dogs too, it much more humane than sticking one in a cage.
