  • For all the people thats saying cornell's version has bad vocals, they obviously haven't herd Cornell when he was with soundgarden and temple of the dog, he had a huge vocal range

  • The problem is that great music is dependent on your personal preferences. I love the original version. I was a big fan of MJ's back in the day when he made the Thriller album. However, when I head David sing it this way, I thought it was incredible. Both versions are good but quite different in their arrangement. Kudos to Cornell for making this arrangement. Having listened to him singing the vocals vs. David, I have to say I preferred David's, even though I'm a fan of some of Cornell's work.

  • Chris Cornell isn't a bad singer. Out of all the grunge artists from the Seattle scene he was probably the most talented vocalist in my opinion. He's always been known for hiswide four-octave vocal range, and powerful vocal belting technique. You guys obviously never heard him in his prime. Listen to him on Badmotorfinger and Temple of the Dog "Hunger Strike". He could hit the same note that Cook did toward the end of the song.

  • I personally think Chris Cornell's version is terrible. And I was once a fan of his. his version of this song is brillant, but the vocals suck. I think every one got so upset cause someone on American idol did a better vocal to an already crappy cover vocal.Besides, when they intro'ed it, didn't they say "doing Chris Cornell's version of Billy Jean"? So its not like they didn't give him credit for it. its just the judges praised Cook for being brave enough to do that version. and do it better.

  • @AnimusArgentis WOW i am very glad yur not a fan of Chris Cornell any more. Your the Stupidest Piece of Shit on youtube. Stop trying to justfy lack of originality

  • @werm227 You're a fucking idiot. A lack of originality due to the fact that I dislike his vocals, but the music itself is a brilliant touch? Shut the fuck up, twit. Lack of originality. ROFL. Google my username, I'm a fucking writer by trade you asstwat, that kinda begs for originality.

  • @AnimusArgentis I googled your username and real name and didn't get shit. you're a fucking prick. "a fucking writer by trade" wtf does that even mean? lol

  • Love the way he sang this version, you dvr'd it :) yay dish!

  • this is awful! Who seriously tapes their tv?

  • i LOVE david's version of Billy Jean.

    And his voice is amazing.

  • its not his version. its Chris Cornell's

  • BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!

  • great quality video ya got here

  • this version is shit!!! but that doesn't mean that guy is a bad singer just saying the way he sung it was shit!!!

    and for the comments below

you must give the credit to Michael Jackson and Chris Cornell beacause they both sung the song their own way!

but MJ did write the song but im not saying chris should not get and credit!! this is how it goes!!!! 60% credit MJ and 40% Chris!

  • @TributeToMichaelJcks i would go more along the lines of 75% 25%

  • this version sucks

  • no sea bruto y que paila de un tv piro

  • 1:35-1:40 gave me chills.

  • ist billie jean not billy bean

    lol

  • eh i dun care for it.

  • Oh and I meant AI not AM lol. Before people start bashing me on my below comment, i'm not saying that he didnt sing it really well. I did enjoy it very much, just would have liked to see him give mention that the arrangement was Cornell's and not his own. Even the judges were oblivious to it....it's one thing to do the song but when people start praising your creativity regarding the song you owe it to Cornell to give him props. Thats all i'm saying.

  • You must be out of the loop or something. Ryan Seacrest said right before that this was Chis Cornell's version. This has been discussed ad nauseum. I listened to Cornell's version of MJ's Billie Jean & Cook's take on it is much better.

  • reinharv, you must be blown to think that Cook's version is better than Cornell's. You think that Cook has the creativity to sit down and think up something like this all on his own? I think not. Or else he would have done it already and not be a contestand on AI. Yes, Seacrest said it was Cornell's version but when Cook is up there listening to the judges praise his "creativity" he should have put it on Cornell. I'm not out of the loop...sounds like your out of reality if you ask me.

  • Cook rarely said anything to the judges. Cook's version is better-that's my opinion, you have yours. Cornell sounds high when he sings it. Cook always gave credit in order to have permission to do any song--it's not his fault Randy doesn't listen & Cowell hasn't got a glue about music. Enough of the stupid accusations. Cook produced Analog Heart prior to A.I. & he wasn't there to compete. He got dragged in. Everyone knows this.

  • xXBooshXx....I understand what your trying to say...at least give credit to Cornell. What bothers me is that the people on AM nowadays are doing versions of songs that are not well known with the hopes of convincing people it was their own creativity when in fact it wasnt. I really liked it when Cook did it and I think it did rather well but you gotta give credit where credit is due...thats when I lose respect for the contestants.

  • yes, give credit where its do right? and that credit goes to michael jackson for writing the song.duhh

  • Nobody was saying that they werent giving credit to MJ for the song. The argument here is that Cornell did his own arrangement of the song and Cook did that version and took the judges praises as if it was his own genius that thought it up. IMO.....MJ's version is and forever will be the best. In most cases you dont have to give credit to MJ cause everyone knows that it was his...his music speaks for itself cause he was that good!

  • Chris Cornell doesn't sing it better. he just slows it down to make it seem that way. he can't sing.

  • come man, don't be such an asshole. i made that comment like a week ago, and now your replying??? you have your own opinion, so whats the problem? music is no contest dude!

  • @kwazdukes this video skipped Ryan Seacrest saying David was singing Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean. The main video that had over 3 million hits, which is no longer on YT, clearly captures Ryan saying it's Cornell's version. A.I. has to know who sang the song so that they can give credit (or get permission) however, in the past they sometimes don't mention it live or cut out the pre-clip (though this isn't the case here) & then everyone slams the contestants.

  • He has very good voice but i don't like this Billie Jean version...

It's seem very long and boring... xD

  • his voice reminds me of the lead singer in shinedown

  • Complete rip-off of Cornell's original take on the song. Although it sounds amazing when sung by both.

  • It's not a rip-off. It's a cover of Cornell's version. They don't do originals on American Idol.

  • I've seen originals done on American Idol before...but anyway, rip-off is sorta the same thing as cover to me :P In no way do I resent David Cook. He's a talented singer, as is Cornell. Actually, I wish I wouldn't have posted that last comment...made it sound like I was angry or something. I'm actually happy he chose such an amazing artist to cover.

  • i'm in loveeee

  • this is the best re0mix of any micnael jackson song ever mad respect rest in peace mike

  • awesome
