  • from my limited knowledge of the civil war, the shell jacket was kind of a fad and was popular mid to late war especially in the south where it was called the "cloth saving jacket" . even though they were short i read an article in a book series that quoted a Union soldier that said the North was so well supplied at the end of every winter theyre would be piles of great coats and blankets along the marches, check out "echoes of Glory" time life books i believe

  • Hey yankeeboy, you ever do confederate impressions? I do both but am slowly leaning towards more Confederate impressions. Thanks!

  • my issued hat is a forage or at least my units background also can u make a vid about the confederates flag some peeps think its racist but its not

  • Acctually 1858 US regular army Regulations which was still in affect in the civil war stated that an US infrantry troop would be issued a hardee hat and a frock coat the reason for the sack coat was ti save on material for the war but many regiments were still issued the jacket like iron birgade Irish brigade and many others

  • @142civilwar Yes indeed they were but they did not carry them. Before i go anyfurther...they did wear hardees in battle and frocks but not that often...only on a garrison probably like a fort. Remember battle was a fatigue....thus the name fatigue coat...later known as sack coat.
