  • so will thse controllers work with fl studio

  • I got a question man. I usually use an audio interface only to record but im wanting to get into using a mixer and audio interface. Are you running your mbox to the computer separately, or are you running it to your mackie control universal that your running to your computer?

  • hey man where did you get your desk? If you remember can you tell me what model it is? Thanks for the video

  • do you think is it really necessary to have a analog mixer these days?

  • Excellent video. I have two important questions. I looked forever for a decent controller to use in FL Studio and finally came upon this. Now, I know FL developed a preconfigured setting in its controller options to work flawlessly with the MCU (Not the Pro, but the original one) unfortunately, they haven't done any work on the extenders, or the Mackie C4 Controller. My questions are, can the MCU Pro work with the FL preconfig? And can the extenders be setup by the user to work? Thanks again.

  • @VenVile Okay, I've been reading through all the responses and have seen that you answered one of my questions already. Yep, it MCU Pro does work well with the MCU config in the MIDI settings. Now, can the extenders be set up to mimic the MCU behaviour?

  • @VenVile Yes it worked, I have not tried the extenders though. they do not have a selection for them in FL Studio.

  • @VenVile Yes it worked, I have not tried the extenders though. they do not have a selection for them in FL Studio. If you find more info on that I will try on my end before you make the investment.

  • @DevonWhite67 Thanks man! I'm thinking the extenders should work to some degree with the MCU config selected. If not, then a full MIDI mapping should work, although it will take some time to set up. Image Line has stopped worked on developing a config for the extenders for about 2 years now...and that's a bit sad to see. Most companies hardly include support for FL, and here they have one of the best controllers for FL & they stopped development. Smh!

  • @VenVile I got it to trigger FL Studio 10 in Mackie mode but fader/channel info does not show up on the MCU Pro. Maybe I am doing something wrong or it does not suport this feature. I use the Mackie to control Cubase 4 and FL Studio is routed and controlled thru Cubase.

  • @DevonWhite67 I was going through the IL forums, and read that in order to have full functionality, you have to set the MIDI port of the MCU to 102.

  • I just have a quick question. Can this controller bank from from left to right? Most of my sessions have up to 50 tracks, so I need a controller that can bank to as many tracks as I want to mix with.

  • @MetalHeadVideos Even I too have the same doubt.

  • @MetalHeadVideos yes it does have bank buttons that allow you to handle as many as your memory permits.

  • @DevonWhite67 Awesome. Thanks a lot.

  • @MetalHeadVideos dude, 50 tracks is a lot, even more so if your doing Hip-Hop. Back in the day a lot of professional music studio's, valued a million+, had only the use of 24 tracks to work with and still did incredible things in all music genre's.

If your using 50 dedicated instrument/audio tracks then your not utilizing the power of your DAW, VST's, Sequencer, automation, inserts ect... Well, unless your producing a complex genre of electronic music or recording an orchestra.

  • @TheSecretSilencer I see your point, but I record and mix a lot of metal and rock. So to get the big powerful stereos that I'm looking for, I need to use a lot of tracks. Its not that I record tuns and tuns of instruments, there's really only about 25 things going. But where my tracks start adding up is with the instruments like guitars, I will recording up to 8 guitars to get the big, powerful, stereos that I want. I'm sill new to this, I just got out of recording school, so thanks for the help

  • you need to get a new desk, thats not cool when they hang off the edge like that! Always make sure you measure the desktop space before buying a desk

  • @TheSecretSilencer I can move it back and forward depends on my mood, at this time they do not offer a desk for my system and equipment. I had another desk as well that matches this desk so I had this one to hold my gear and for cosmetic reasons. My preference ultimately would be one that this unit would be recessed and specifically tailored for.

  • @DevonWhite67 Argosy makes a Univeral desk for them with several configurations to fit from upto one MCU to one MCU with 3 extenders. Raxxess also makes configuraxx desk's that will do the same thing with.

You can also make your own desk. Its a lot easier then it sounds. Im gonna start making my own soon. Right now Im using a configuraxx desk by raxxess.

  • I SWEAR I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME STUDIO TABLE/STATION

  • @DevonWhite67 I use more than 50 tracks including midi, VST and audio. Will the faders have banks to jump to next 8 channels? And will it work for the re-wire apps i work? I use Cubase 5 as main and re-wire Reason, Live, etc. Hope to get a help from you.

  • Dude sweet I'm getting mine soon, but no extenders yet..but I really recommend switching to Mac OSX, that's what I have. They're better for editing any kind of files. Right now I'm using a Mac Pro 1 TB HD 4 GB RAM with dual 21.5 inch Samsung EX2220 monitors. And even with just 4 GB of RAM, it's amazing. And Macs are practically 99% immune to viruses. Oh and my software is Digital Performer with a Motu interface. But haha throwing away your protools? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard.

  • @JONPS360 Macs are no better then PC's. They are actually very limited. No computer is 99% immune to viruses. Mac/s get viruses just as much as PC's, most users are too dumb to realize it! Were not living in the 80's anymore. In the present day viruses are in demand for mac's as they are for PC's. I have a PC and never get viruses.

Besides being an audio engineer im also a programmer and nothing is better than a PC!

  • these mackies without the c4 are only half a machine

  • Now get yerself a meter bridge over the top! : )

  • I like it. They should make a nice looking hardware joiner so you can screw them together. Presonus sells one for its studiolive digital boards if you run them in tandem. I was looking at a Tascam DM 3200 which would be cool but mas $

  • How can I Connect this to Pro Tools 8 M-Powered?

  • you should edit your video so we don't have to wait for you to get your demonstrations ready

  • @Keplaffintech yes, lol, I realize that now. I was new to youtube and uploading videos here and realized after viewing it a few timess. I never really expected to get much activity when I posted it. Thanks for your feedback. I'll try to post more in the future.

  • Hi!

I just got a MCU + MCU XT but find myself totally unable to configure them properly. I use Cubase 5 and connect the MCU to the computer via USB and to the MCU XT via MIDI IN and OUT from port 2. Then I select the MIDI input and Output at the devices setup menu. When I run a project in cubase, the extender shows the message U.....n.....s on the display . Colud you please tell me how did you make it to configure it?Thanks a lot in advance

  • @paboloish I have Cubase 4 but it should work the same. On your XTs and on your MCU Pro when you want to use them with Pro tools, Logic or Cubase go to the first 2 channels of each unit and hold down the select buttons while turning on the power. At the top you will see Mackie Ctrl, HUI, and Logic Ctrl. Push down on the 1st black pan button channel for Cubase, 4th for protools and 7th for Logic. When I power up I turn on MCU then XT then Cubase, give about 10 seconds, in that order.

  • @DevonWhite67 Thanks for the answer! I already had the MCU and MCU XT configured in mackie control mode. However, they don't work. How do you configure them in Cubase? I went to devices setup and selected "MCU USB v3.1" for MIDI input and "MIDI IN 2 (MCU USB v3.1)" for MIDI output. Is that correct? By the way, it's weird that the mentioned selected options make reference to the v3.1. My MCU and MCU XT are bothe v4.0.1. do you have the same?

    thanks again for your help

  • @paboloish In Cubase at top Select pull down tab Devices-->Device Setup.... On left side you see Remote devices. Highlight Remote Devices & select "+" at the top in Device Setup. Select Mackie Control twice. You should see Mackie Control & Mackie Control 2.Then select each one at a time & look to the right. For Mackie Control seiect the midi Input & output tabs & select USB Audio Device. For Mackie Control 2 seiect the midi Input & output tabs & select USB Audio Device [2]. Click OK at bottom.

  • @DevonWhite67 Thanks again for your support! Right now i am on a trip so unfortunately I can´t check it but, I will as soon as i'm back home. I really think it will work. I didn't select Mackie control twice so I'm pretty sure it will be the problem. Anyways, sometmes I see that the dysplay on the MCU (not the XT) slightly fades away as if it had a power supply faliure... Is it normal for u too? I'm afraid it is damaged so I should send ift for maintenance. Thanks again. I really appreciate it

  • @paboloish Hello again! I'm back home so first thing I did was trying what you said. however, I can´t make it! Tried everything you said but, impossible. the MCU XT replicates exactly the same I got in the MCU.It just mirrors the tracks shown on the main unit. (faders positions and display info).. I select the 2 mackies and then the ports. After I click on reset all devices, but nothing.I'm starting to think the MCU is damaged... Thanks a lot anyways..I appreciate it a lot. You've being so kind.

  • @paboloish Don't give up, we can make it work. I wish I could walk you through it, because when you get it working it is wonderful. It just makes thing so easy. Make sure you turn on the units first. I start with the Mcu, wait a sec then the extenders upward one at a time. If you open cubase first then the extenders it won't work.

  • Lol! Ugh, that sucks man! throwin' stuff out with the trash. I've done that a few times...DAMN IT!

  • @enyeny7077 It does make things easier and puts things in perspective. Do your research and see if this is best for you. Cubase 4 only allowed for me to use to extenders and does not support the C4 unit. It took me a while to setup and a few tutorials to really master. Good luck!

  • Lern how to positioning your monitors, get other table. =D

  • @DevonWhite67 how are the units connected to each other to work in unisin

  • @johnzzy552www.mackie.com/pdf/mackiecontroluniv_qs.pdf

  • @johnzzy552 midi daisy chain, midi out of one unit, midi in to another, midi out of that unit, midi in to another etc.

  • @RoodyAlex the Mackie MCU Pro works primarily with Cubase, Logic, or Pro Tools. You would run Fl Studio inside Cubase as a rewire or protools and be able to control levels and parameters with the Mackie. I don't use the Mackie to control Fl Studio by itself.

  • @DevonWhite67

    @DevonWhite67

Just check each software's website or Owner's Manual for MCU, Logic Control or HUI compatibility. If your software supports any of these three protocols, then you are all good.

  • @DevonWhite67 Its primarily used for those daws but would they possibly work without the rewire? Thanks for the vid

  • @FiSTFigHT09 I use the rewire when working with fl studio and cubase 4. It works directly w/Cubase or Pro Tools, and directly with Logic.

  • @SveinKB3 it was for me at first but when I did some further research and started reading more and not making it harder than what it really was it began to all make sense. If you are planning on purchasing I can help you set it up. I bought 5 tutorial DVDs because I wanted to take full advantage of the all that Cubase and MCU Pro can do. Only down fall is it did not support the C4 controller and additional extenders. I have the 2 XTs.

  • how do you setup the mbox2 to make it work with FL Studio?

  • @FlowDeBarrio2004 You have to use pro tools to control fl studio. I have Pro trools but mainly use Cubase 4. I believe it is similar to the way I use in on there through rewire.

  • @DevonWhite67

Actually, you can connect it directly to FL Studio. You simply connect it with a MIDI Interface, go to MIDI settings, set the Output port to 102, and set the Input controller type to Mackie Control Universal. Thats what I do, but I dont know if Itd work with multiple, as I only have one ;D

  • @TheChosenOneOfficial thaks ChoooenOne1

  • @DevonWhite67

    You're quite welcome!

  • @TheChosenOneOfficial thaks ChoooenOne1

  • @FlowDeBarrio2004 i remember just installing pt for the drivers and selecting my mbox in the audio and midi parameters in flstudio... used to work and allow me to use my old ass midi keyboard which is exempt of any usb implementation... not the best results tho.

  • What studio desk are you using fella ?

  • @chrisgreengreen I actually have 2 desks that I am using, I picked them up at the guitar center.

Studio RTA Creation Station Studio Desk & Studio RTA Producer Station.

  • They connect to each other i/o midi and to my computer via usb.

  • In response to imabigkydn0w, "do they connect to eachother thur midi? or would you need a midi interface to plug each of them into?"

  • can u use the mbox mini wit fl studio?

  • I believe if you use FL inside of Pro tools you can, I don't do a lot with pro tools.

  • Okay then... Thanks for that and congrats on your system! you got a page of many more beats you done with it?

  • I am in the process of working on that at the moment. I have been busy with a lot of other ventures but I am going to start to buckle down and begin working on more original material.

  • can you get these components flush against each other so it looks more like one unit?

    Thanks in advance!

  • They are flush together, anything more flush you would need to consult with the manufacturer.

  • is a good mixer ?

  • It's not really a mixer, it is a controller. It controls whatever software you are using to record in your computer such as Protools, Logic, Cubase, etc.

  • You can use the MCU pro as a standalone, it maybe possible for my application this was the setup I went with.

  • Good Job! I'm about to buy it and add two extenders too, friends call me megalomaniac, they say one extender is enough. But I work with lots of tracks at the same time and I see you are happy with your 24 channel (physical) set up. (Final price is sour... also planning to add a c4 pro on top of everything). Great music! Which speakers are you using? It looks like white-coned yamahas -- upgrading monitors too, can't decide (near field monitor) between yamahas or mackies... Keep up the good job!

  • I got the new powered yamahas but mackies are great. I have the old vintage yamahas but you need the power supply box, I stopped using them because I was getting a lot of noise but later found out I had to make an adjustment with my music software.

  • lol

  • Dev, I like that cut. Is that a song you designed or is it pre-loaded? ~Signed, Ms. Amateur LuvJones

  • Everything you hear on my youtube page will be me. A lot of different people were discovered using this medium so I said I got all this equipment and skill over the years so what the heck.

  • Hi i have the same set up as you, with cubase 4 and the mackie and extenders, i can get the mackie to work in cubase but i cant get the extenders to work, i have tried setting the mackie(s) up as three seperate mackies in the control panel, what am i doing wrong???? if you got 5 email me would be very happy if you did, respect!!!!!!
