I need to show this to my dad. He's the exact same. On the phone, driving when it's pouring rain even when my mom says to pull off, and he drives faster than he should sometimes. :(
Although he is a good driver (saved our lives from a car accident in front of us) that's still no excuse.
My motorcycle instructor told me to treat everybody on the road as if there there to kill you. This is the best advice he has given me. Bus drivers and old people are the worst for cutting you up.
I am going to send this to my father. He is often diatrcted. He used to drive drunk until he had his first child. He still drives while drinking, but he drinks soda. A deathly amount. Dad isn't the best driver when he isn't distracted by his phone or drinking or anything else, but he is much worse when he is. The other day, he almost killed my brother, my mom and I as he was driving. I try to tell him the importance of distracted driving, but he doesn't listen, but I still hope one day he will.
I just have to say, from an American perspective, that British TV broadcasts some of the most traumatizing PSAs ever. I've watched quite a few on different topics, and they're just absolutely harrowing. Our commercials, even anti-drug or drunk driving ones, are never this involved. I think US TV SHOULD broadcast British PSAs; they portray warnings in a much more realistic way than cars overflowing with wine (anti-drunk driving) and people with puppet strings (anti-drug use from peer pressure).
The people I feel most sorry for are the people the unsafe driver probably took with him, and their families. Those are the people who did everything right and died anyway.
i drove fast when i was 20 7 years ago but i only did it once and that was it after ending up in hospital for 20 weeks in icu for 4 weeks when i hit a car at 80mph some 1 up their was telling me something so now i never speed at all its called learn your lesson and i Lent mine that day
using kids as a tactic is a sick sick idea, if thats what it takes then this is a sick society we live in. The person who directed this advert wants shooting. We all neglect other things in life that kill people every day. Fact is, if the roads were designed to be more safe then less people would get hurt. Look at Holland as an example. far far less accidents per person. Why, because hey spend more on the roads and less on sickening adverts like this.
@7649460, I agree road saftey should be improved but don't forget that drink driving, speeding, incorrect use of saftey features and driver error are by far the most common factors in motoring fatalities.
And why is it sick to feature a child for a driving safety ad? The real horrors of RTC death is far more sickening and disturbing than this commercial. Watch a small child take its last breaths before it sucombs to its injuries because some guy was driving on whilst on his mobile.
@7649460 true but in Britian nobody seems to understand basic road safety for some reason so adverts NEED to be addressed. I agree that using a kid can be abit too touchy but its REALITY! So get used to it cause it happens everyday and i think its a good tatic to use to stop people speeding... Its a shame that they have to go to the lengths of these adverts because some drivers are just that stupid... Trust me i work in a hospital as a Nurse consoltant and this is NOTHING!
I used to smoke pot and drive, many a time I switched to "Auto Pilot" and go to my destination and didn't remember any of the journey. The time that stopped me doing that, I totally lost the plot and forgot what each pedal did... scary or what?
Well i appreciate that they want to make people driver safer but is there really a need for showing someone bleeding from all angles on their deathbed, thats like if they showed a video of someone being sliced in half by a chainsaw to promote chainsaw safety
see thats a really head in the sand approach to life. 'SPEEDING' is just rule breaking. it does not equal dangerous driving. you can speed safely, and you can drive very dangerously very slowly. what if they made the motorway limit 30mph. would someone flouting the rules and doing 40 or 50 mph be a bad person or driver or be dangerous just because they were breaking the rules, because they were speeding? why do you think in germany they have speed limitless roads? sorry about the rant!
And is it really so unreasonable to suggest that it's possible, with a powerful/light enough car, that I can lap the almost-thirteen-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife in under eight minutes? Sure, there are accidents there, some of them fatal, but when you compare them to the level of traffic, it's no big deal. Likewise, I've been a passenger in a BMW 7-series (bought here for only £3k) while being driven down a German autobahn at 155mph in a downpour - it was as dramatic as watching paint dry.

1) Drive Safely and keep to APPROPIATE speed for conditions as well as limit.
2) Do a skid course
3) Do and Advanced Licence (don't understand why the DSA don't push this?)

People drive like this with their kids in the car, though. The ad is no less sick than the idiots who take huge risks with kids in their car.
