@MrDipeDematteo You really don't know what you're missing. Adds a whole new dimesion to playing bass. But then if you don't play music that needs fretless it won't be for you.
@noatabriz I play a ton of songs on fretless whether they're originally played on a fretless or not because I like the sound better. There aren't songs specifically for fretless basses and specifically for fretted basses.
you killed it man. not how a fretless is played at all, there was no soul there. don't take it personally, it's constructive criticism, you need to just slow down your playing and stop showing off technically and just think hard about the groove/feel to a song. that is after all what makes great bassists. theres no need to show off, just get into the feel. ok?
it's always nice to have a fretless, but certainly that's not the eq for that bass, can't say if thi sis your fault or maybe the camera's capture mic.
@martinescu91 a "Lined Fretless" has inlayed wood or other material where the fret would usually be. There's also "Unlined Fretless" basses that have a blank board on the front and which you guide by the top dot markers. They're harder to start on but some say better to learn on in the long run. Honestly, it's a matter of what suits you the player best - I own a custom lined fretless Spector but because of years of playing could likely play an unlined due to musle memory and the top dots.
two things - first, it was good. but its lacking soul i think. i mean, it was played well and seemingly accurately, but i think you could put more energy and feeling into it. second - thank you for responding to the "bassists dont go crazy on stage anyways" comment. that was really ignorant of quade. and thats a beautiful bass by the way. and youre absolutely right about the different sound.
why are you doin´ this moves with your fingers on your left hand?? it´s too much movement..and it looks sick^^..sorry but, this is the perfect moment to say: look at this guy! He thinks he is a good bassplayer cause he can play a fast line..but, dude, there are other things, which are more important than playing fast..having certrainity on the tone of the bass is the most important thing
Try to keep your fingers of you left (fretting hand)just sort of hovering over the strings instead of flailing around ...use less movement when fingering... go for economy not big finger movements...it will make your chops cleaner...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
why get a fretless when you can get an upright, i think it comes in better quality, plus it can go acoustic. i can see because of mobility, but bassists dont go crazy on stage anyways
a fretless has a completely different sound when played properly, i.e. not in this video. It's easier to carry around and to store, this one was cheaper than an upright would have been, you can get fretless acoustics and saying bassists don't go crazy on stage is like saying all guitarists and singers do go nuts...
@quade64 a good upright will cost you much more than a good fretless and the sound is quite different (you might not hear it on the video though). FS is also easier to carry to rehearsals and to tour with. As for stage "crazyness" it entirely depends on the musician, regardless of the instrument.
@quade64 Well I doubt anyone would want to carry a instrument that size, and value. Fret less basses can be from from hand made(custom) - 300$ or 1000's, Cheapest upright I saw was 2,000..
@quade64 And also an upright bass is highly sensitive to temperature and humidity changes.Jaco played an upright in his youth, but due to the Florida humidity found it,one day, collapsed in the corner of his boyhhood room.
@quade64 dude are you dumb. theyre completely different instruments. have you ever seen flea? after seeing Flea (greatest bassist of all time) you cannot say that 'bassists dont go crazy on stage' because thats totally not true.
@quade64 An upright bass would never have the same amount of sustain as an electric bass would have. A fretless bass has a much more human like sound and better "mwah" tone.
@MetalElf oh my god. its a comment from 2 years ago. let it go!!!! i just like the tone and calmness of an upright better. i have a fretless bass. ive played uprights. way better tone and feel for an upright. fretlesses are just mobile uprights. knockoffs. Jaco pretty much invented them purely because his upright bass had a crack in it,
awful. well its not awful, thats a lie. But it looks good... sounds a little off tbh - tighten it up and when you play open, dont take your finger so far off the fret-board - makes it look l8ike you dont know what ur dong.
Don't put nearly so much into finger movement on your left hand. Also, turn the bass down and turn the mids up a little; I can hardly hear the fretless part of this bass's sound.
Careful not to get an injury. Only move as much as possible to play. Injuries usually occur from hyper extending fingers while fretting. Get those fingers to just hover over the strings.
is that what that is? I've never seen a fretless neck that color. mine is wenge, which is almost black. as are most every fretless bass i've ever seen.
