I first saw them do Frankenstein years ago at "The Front" in Burlington (it is no longer there). They did this song regularly in their early years. This is 2009 performance is a good version, but it definitely lacks the energy they used to have when they played small venues. Phish is just not the same in large veunues. Their best performances were in front of 500 people.

I can say from experience that I prefer playing in front of small crowds to the larger crows.

Granted I've only played the large venues 4 times in my career but I will say that when you play in front of a large crowd you have to create your own energy because you're separate from their energy. It's hard to explain but that's more or less how it is .

I feel the energy in the entire room at a small club where I will play with so much more inspiration because of it
