  • @universaldollie I assume you found the vid ling already

  • Actually, as I recall it was on the Ed Sullivan Show when the Muppets performed this song as though it was being done in a recording studio with one of the skinny monsters singing the lead...he'd stand near the mike and then back up like Freeburgh in this version...it was hilarious...

  • I recall seeing a short puppet movie using this banana boat track as its inspiration many years ago set in a recording studio. Have'nt seen it in years if anyone knows where I can view it I would be very grateful.

Thanks for posting this it brought back some great childhood memories

  • @Keefymonoped My dad says he remembers that too - could've been on a kids show called Vision On?

  • @Keefymonoped ...or Blue Peter. Is it the film 'krodgerson' has posted on youtube?

  • @78s4FR Yes it is the film thanks for your reply , its been many many years since I have seen that one back in the days when we only had black and white televisions, colour ones were very posh back then lol.

    Thanks again.

  • @Keefymonoped I remember that as well there were several others Right Said Fred & A Windmill in Old Amsterdam & Pat Boone's Speedy Gonsales were 3 others , I have a feeling there were 'fillers', a lot of childrens tv was live then and if things didn't run to time they used to show them before the news on BBC1.

  • This is such an awesome song... seriously, too bad it's ruined by the interruptions.

  • @JohnnyScientist Oh no. No no no. The interruptions and banter between singer and bongo player are gorgeous. The Speedy Gonzalez / Bugs Bunny animation which fits it was brilliant, too. Love it.

  • A thousand thankyous, 78s4FR! I am immediately taken back decades to the memory of rolling around in laughter with my father. The mental images constructed by this song are a riot!

That was from an album called All Aboard.

  • @GEALLLLY I had that same tape. It was awesome.

  • @GEALLLLY I had that very same album. It was called All Aboard!

  • @GEALLLLY That's the same thing as me Xp Do you perhaps know the chip version of "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?" It was on my version of the tape Xp

  • FUNNY OR WHAT?

  • I so loved Stan Freeberg LOL.....cheered me no end!!

  • THANK YOU for putting this up. Used to listen to my dad's 45 of these two. I looked it up because I was thinking about how prescient Stan Freberg was. There were probably 3 channels back then, but he already saw the problem. What would he say now?

  • There was some really funny animation that went along with this version of the Day-O song on an old t.v. show, I think on either the Great Space Coaster or the Electric Company. I would love to see it again, but can't find it anywhere on the internet.

  • Me too! There was a series of them that the BBC used as fill-ins, one being Bernard Cribbins and 'Hole in the Ground'... any more?

  • Just found it - a shortened version but definitely on uTube!!

  • Where? Give us a link to it so we can see it too.

  • I've tried to do a link but it won't seem to work - go to uTube member 'krodgerson' it's on his site. Hope that works for you!

  • I see it, with bugs and speedy, but that is not what I remembered, the one I remembered was simple cartoon animation shown during Great Space Coaster if I remember right. But GSC is not available on DVD yet, so I am up a creek. :(

  • Mmmm! Sorry I can't be more help. I can't recall the one you describe though either. Keep searching, eh?
