@WrestlingGorilla i tend to agree to that, i dont consider mma to be a martial art because theres no technique, its a street fight between two people who lift weights every day. To me brawling like they do is not martial arts. Standing at punching distance and flailing with your arms is not martial arts, but most mma fans seem to think its so clever and amazing, dont know y
Can MMA and BJJ be used in the streets? Stuff that looks good in the ring or octagon may not be effective in the streets. What if you have to fight or fend off multiple attackers? A martial artist needs balance in my opinion. Mind you folks, I am not putting down those arts I mentioned.

Sanda, Wrestling, and Thai Boxing don't teach forms either.

as a traditional kung fu teacher i would say you dont teach application right away for two reasons.first you understand the motivation of the student of his desire to learn the art becuase every one is not worthy of this knowledge and secondly the forms are performed emdlessly to train the noter skills of the body and become automatic and you dont have to think about it in a self defense situation.
@michaellus I understand the concept, but boxers and kickboxers snap out punches so hard and fast. I am telling you this because I was a traditional fighter until I met a kickboxer who was a beginning pro fighter and he killed me in a sparring match and I was Black Belt in Vee Jitsu which was supposed to be a hybrid system. I learned to box and kickbox and use my judo skills in the clinch. It help me in the street and in tournaments. Bruce Lee understood this and changed his ways.
@clearcombat boxers or kickboxers are used to close quarter fights yea, but they're not used to get their arms locked or trapped, also what is not shown in video JTD has a lot of disabling techniques for legs, like kicking w/ edge of your foot in kneecap, which is incredibly effective against anybody and is hard to counter, cuz almost noone is used to this type of striking. Sorry for kind of offtopic reply, but what i wanted to say is that JTD has many more techniques which are devastating
the students look the same from behind. i wonder if there was a couple in that class, and one day one of them came up and slapped the butt of another student "oops sorry i thought u were pamela". then blushingly, peter forgave him.
@sjkflies Well of course the West is also the East, BUT we're looking at a certain point of the globe, haven't you seen those "flat" map of the globe? It's always at the same area, cause we need consistency. Otherwise things would be chaotic.
its kind of funny that back in the days many people wanted to see high flying kicks and stuff in the movies but now a lot of people want to see more realistic fights
Bruce Lee misunderstood A LOT about the traditional way of training. And thats to bad because the world didnt need another style ok, it didnt need a new style because it already had so many. I know, I know, JKD is not really a style but you understand what I mean. It would have been better if Bruce teach Wing chun instead I dont agree with Dan Inosanto, I think effective martial looks better on the big screen than the flowery stuff you always se know days on tv.
Actually, Bruce Lee said to take everything you know and dispose of those that become ineffective.
In Wing Chun, the traditional way to fight is kept, but one of the concepts Wing Chun takes is to adapt to the battle whereas all things are not limited. Meaning that you do not have to just fight the way your masters teach you to, they want you to defend anyway as possible even while using Wing Chun.
Bruce Lee kept Wing Chun, but combined it with other styles and invented his techniques.
well to be fair in wing chun you round the back and shoulders so it makes her bust look even smaller but i'd hit it. if she'd style up the hair a bit lol.
/if shes that good at fighting her stamina in the sack is prolly great + i bet it's tight xD
P.S. I just realized that that is a very young Jeff Imada demonstrating with Guro Dan... Mr. Imada being the man who trained Matt Damon for the Jason Bourne movies as well as choreographing the Fight Scenes :) WOW he is young!!! lol
I love training with Dan... He is truly one of the best teachers out there... I recommend anyone, if they can, to fly out and train with the man because to see and feel is to believe... it changed my training and views... Thank your for the vids.
I suspect that people are drawn to the fancy look nonsense taught, because it looks good to the eye & will pay for that, but no one is going to pay for innate fighting that they can do anyway! The real value in those techniques is making money for those teaching it!
Yeah you can do A, B,C, then flow into D,E,F, techniques in drills! However Empirical evidence of real fights & ardent sparing says that they dont work. To counter this some of the JKD instructors say that you do see immobilising techniques in the likes of UFC no matter how crude they are. The counter to this is if the Crude techniques work & this fancy stuff don't, why not Concentrate on the Crude techniques?
Listening to some of these different men sounds a lot like a science vs. art argument.. however the science side appears to be heavier in improvisation and creativity. Anyone find that ironic? Maybe it comes down to how a culture defines art.. there are some cultures that use it to mean "craft" or "skill" with little room for deviation. Really prompts a lot of thought on how these principles apply to other human endeavors. Can Jeet Kune Do be applied to music? Of course.
Jeet Kune Do is not a fighting art. It is a fighting philosophy. It teaches to "respond like an echo, adapt like a shadow" i.e. not limiting yourself to a particular style but accepting from all styles what works best for you.

you idiot, kung fu isint for entertainment, those moves are for training not to be gawked at, theres a reason wing chun cant do competiontions, its because the western world is too PC to let guys elbow each other in the face and break arms and neck strikes, its self defence not a sport there is a massive diffrence
There is another side to that question: Why don't we see K1 or UFC in the street?
You see? You're not making a fair comparison, and there's more than one answer to the question. If K1 fighters are so badass, why the gloves? If the UFC fighters are really that great, why don't women do it? If you really are "Realistic", why not knife fight? They do in Indonesia, and it's considered normal training.
You can't compare apples to oranges, even if they are both fruits. The same can be said here.
1) gloves to save a life BTW Lethwei (is a mayanmar kick boxing) similar to muay thai that you see in K1 are not using Gloves -> they have a big death rate
2) Women does UFC !!!
3)knives?!?!?! are you kidding ?!?!? C'mon it is sport !!!
4) I don't know about you ... but I saw alot of people using muay thai in streets (and I used by my self) and it was very effective ...
If you can't be bothered to investigate what I'm talking about, why bother answering? You only had to click a few pages back on the comments to find it. I mean, if you're not willing to invest the time it takes to discover the answer, I can't spoon feed you.
@PendekarBobbe There are actually females I know that do mix martial arts, mma is competition, there are other fight organizations other then the ufc like pride, ax etc
@TheodoreCao - Yeah, I probably could have worded that better, and it seems most would rather stop at MY comment instead of looking for what I was ANSWERING. Here it is: "why isnt there any kung fu fighter on k-1?"
THAT was why I posted my commentary. Start from there. I don't mean to say that women can't fight in MMA, or that I am disrespecting UFC or anything...But OPEN YOUR EYES.
@PendekarBobbe Why don't you see K1 or UFC in the street? Those are conditions, of course you don's see them on the street! If you mean people use their MMA knowledge, actually there are a bunch of videos of MMA trained people defending themselves on the streets. Why do K1 fighters wear gloves? So they don't break their hands as easily. If you think you're more badass, have a K1 fighter punch you in the face and we'll see how wimpy they are.
@PendekarBobbe Women don't "do" UFC, because that's impossible. What you mean is that women don't participate in the UFC. That's because they're not allowed to. In Japan (not sure about the US), there are MMA competitions that feature women. If you were smart enough, you could easily find videos on here. A knife fight is considered normal training in Indonesia? Sure...
See... you have no idea what you're talking about.
@PendekarBobbe Of course MMA isn't street self defense, but if you train in MMA for some years, you can easily transfer a lot of the skills you have learned to a more street-oriented art such as Krav Maga, not to mention your improved conditioning.
