In the Velvets they would fight all the time (cherchez la femme - souvent). When Lou was out of the band they were not close at all. And then they come together to compose and perform a rock and roll masterpiece of the first order. Then they break off again. ...Couldn't happen any other way.
Perfect song, but ZenPapageno drives me mad anyway. He is little out of space with normal people... He is under all Songs for Drella writing his irritating novels!
I love this song! I can't get this song out of my head, songs for drella is definately one of my favorite albums of all time! thank you for putting this up!
To mitoguard: What other "infamy" (outrageous action, injustice) would frighten Warhol's friends that much? Is it mentioned on this album? P.S. Don't worry about "Mr." - latinate names ending with o are masculine.
Reed's description of Warhol and the Factory after the shooting is inconsistent with other ones. About the drug issue in "It Wasn't Me," does Reed expect us to take that seriously? Directors say "Cut" when something's wrong. ("Is that liquor on your breath, Edie?") There was a 17 year old drunk in "Chelsea Girls." Reed is using his superior artistry to make this frightened, greedy little man look like a tragic hero.
I don't think this song /is/ after the shooting. I Believe (narrating the shooting in verse) comes a few tracks later on the album, and "A Dream" and "Nobody But You" both are a pretty different Warhol than the one described here.
Is there some reason to think the song is meant to discuss Warhol after the shooting?
perfect album its very personal and universal the Tone of the recorde is minimalism and industrial melancolic Lou and john WAS part of the factury Andy Waroll produce the first velvate underground record make uge publicty - Andy the Dracula V Cinderela and A Grate Men. the song WORK discribde much of his atitude tward life and art. Brilliant stuff.
Listen to the whole album if you can.
The body language and looks Reed / Cale exchange are priceless, but they both loved/admired Andy.

Wikipedia article - Valerie Solanis. Billy Name talks about the "Cardboard Andy" who lived in fear for the rest of his life.

Or Ms. Papageno. I forgot to include the "/s" after the r in Mr. in my previous post. Apologies.
