Israel was founded by the Jewish people who have lived in the land for over three- thousand years, and who were exiled from it twice and twice returned to build it again. Israel is the only democratic state, in the Middle East. It has an Arab minority of twenty percent. The numbers of this minority have increased over fivefold since Israeli independence. Unfortunately Israel 's existence is denied by many of its neighbors. . The insane hatred of Israel ignorant will not change this.
@ShalomFreedman Palestine was only 7% Jewish in 1914, most of Israelis weren't there for thousands of years they had assimilated in other countries. Via immigration and force the Palestinians were made the minority there, the Palestinians also have elections and therefore are democratic, as as Lebanon just above Israel and now thankfully Iraq is democratic. Arabs have also been in Palestine since the 3rd so almost 2000years. I do not hate israel, I think that the Palestinians alot deserve better
I thank Martin Amis for this remarkable presentation. How rare how wonderful is it to feel one is understood. Here the non- Jewish non- Israeli Martin Amis understands the Jewish reality and the Israeli reality as it truly is. This is revealed in Bellow's passage wherein he explains the existence of Israel coming out of the Jews being the only people whose very survival is always in question.
@ShalomFreedman: indeed it is facinating to understand a country that was formed on genocide, land theft, and destruction of another people. A country that is an outlaw state in violation of international laws, morals and principals. So racist as to steal body parts of the dead and discriminate against its darker colored Jewish citizens. So bizarrely paranoid and fanatical, it researches an ethno-biological weapon. So dangerous, it possesses nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
Destruction of the Palestinian people? The people whose population has increased tenfold since the birth of Israel, and whose people living within the borders of this outlaw state enjoy a level of personal freedom and quality of existence that is without peer in the rest of the Arab world, or even in the expatriate Arab slums of post-War Europe.
How awful those Jews are at genocide, having learnt from the best.
@theuntergroundman Palestinians living within the borders of Israel, yes. Perhaps you might tell that to the Palestinian disapora, now entering its fourth generation, estimated at 4 million people living in refugee camps under the UNRWA (the largest refugee problem in the world), unable to return home to the land that their forefathers were kicked out of to make room for Israeli settlers. There is serious injustice here.
Amis gives no evidence, just poetic rambling. He is so pretentious and self righteous. More Palestinians died in the Israeli-backed massacre of Sabra and Shatila of the early 80s than have ever died in Israel as a result of terrorism. Israel has suffered; Palestine has suffered more. I preemptorily bat off accusations of anti-semitism: I question Israel, not Judaism.
@llewohnewo ....perhaps you should also question Palestinian "authorities" as to what steps did they take to stop the war and to halt the Palestinian civilian casualties
...well so far, I think one might be forgiven for suspecting that antisemitism is only an example of Nature seeking equilibrium, they loving themselves to such a sickly extent. I'll listen on.
