Susan, you should check out Dentyl mouthwash, sold in the U.K. It's invented by Mel Rosenberg, a microbiologist but also a bad breath specialist.

whats funny is some people have to do other things to reduce bad breath - such as remove their tonsils. Because of tonsilitis or chronic drainage of nasal passageways --- which can cause tonsiliths. (those stinky balls of globs stuck in the tonsils)

there is a way to smell your own breath. Lick the back of your hand and wait for it to dry, then smell it

You can use mouth wash but its best to use the NON Alcohol
