  • This looks like it is on a hard setting as I played alot of (original)machines and on most of them they did not fire at you when they were going into formation at stages 1 and 2. This made it easier to let them stack up on stages 1 and 2 because I was always told that if you wait until they break away and go into attack before you start firing on them you get more points. Not sure if that was true though.

  • It about the same as the original. ..about being the key word.

  • @PIKAKP68 what are you talking about? This is exactly the same.

  • i actually played a stand alone galaga machine in a arcade in lake george ny, just after playing after burner 2 IN A COCKPIT CABINET!!! NO SH*T IM SERIOUS!!!!!!!!! they also had a tetris, ms pacman, and pacman machine.

  • best game in the world

  • hd?

  • My first time playing Galaga was Tekken. Tekken 2 perhaps, I can't remember. =P

  • some graphics as arcade version and nes version

  • I will admit that Galaga is a pretty cool game and it would be shame for somebody to say they are a gamer and have never even at least heard of Galaga....

Sadly not my favorite vertical shooter, but it's well up there. I respect Galaga as a classic, but my love for vertical shooters does not fall in this genre as much as bullet hell does. Touhou project actually proves you can have a fun vertical shooter without aliens and battleships, the oriental setting (though modern) is quite refreshing.

  • You are not a gamer until you've played galaga. that or pong.

  • I want hydro thunder on xbox live arcade from sega dreamcast i like that 1

  • "Remember" The arcade version, Mark? you don't need to remember it, they're still fucking everywhere

  • @Theriot6592 ya in scottland theres a arcade version of this game in a restaurant

  • In the 80's my dad ran a Pizza Inn, that had this, and it seems that this is verbatim a copy of the arcade version at the resturant.

  • do u have to pay for it?

  • @johngorgis No genius, hug a unicorn and it magically shoots out of its horn.

  • yeeeah with xbox live you can now do what we've been doing since like 10 years on PCs :D awesome!

  • @clouds5

    True :)

  • Dude, talk about GALAGA! Did you forget you were doing a review or something?

'I'd really like to see chu chu rocket.'

    GALAGA!

  • these sounds remind me when i go to the laundry mat with my mom and she gives me a hand full of quorters and i would run to the sounds of galaga and enjoy the game

  • my favorite part is the doubleship

  • This is not a remake or modification of the original arcade version. It is just emulated perfectly, so this version is not new. in fact, the 7800 version is a remake of the original arcade version.

  • The best space shooter of all time right here!

  • "this is the strawberry jam on the toast of the xbox 360"

but what if you hate strawberry jam? i like grape

  • do we really need reviews about stuff we all ready know or do we just like watching him talk about games!

  • ohh, your wishes were ALMOST fulfilled! ChuChu Rocket returned on modern consoles, but It was exclusive to Apple App Store, and is currently unavailible on XBLA,PSN, or WiiWare! sooo close! Anyways, awesome review

  • I need Phoenix on xbl!!!!!

  • when i whent to disneyland i stayed at the howard johnsons hotel and the had a mrs. pac man/ galaga machine. mrs pac man didnt work for some reason but i did get to play galaga with the arcade joystick and buttons and it kicked ass. much better than the dpad. and since no arcade near me has any old skool arcade machines i loved playing this game at the hotel arcade room . it was the best weekend of my life.

  • downloaded this on the wii

  • no better or worse than the versions of Galaga included in the Midway collection for Ps1 and 2.

  • This version looks harder and faster than some of the original arcade version. I spent alot of my teenage years playing Galaga (sadly a sign of a mispent youth perhaps) but really quite familiar with it - I remember : On stages 1 and 2 the aliens did not fire misiles at you when the were assembling in formation at the top of the screen. I also remember that stage 10 was a nice well earned relaxing stage - you could sit idle and let the aliens form and assemble a the top of screen b4 attaking

  • The arcade version of this is actually my favorite video game. Just hearing those sounds and that music again sends a huge wave of nostalgia crashing over me. The NES version (which I downloaded) isn't as good, but it will have to do. Thanks for the memories!

  • 30 seconds for a youtube intro is far too long........

  • you can get 10,000 in the first level...idiot

  • can play this on starcraft 2 lol

  • The only thing I don't like about the XBLA version of Galaga is that you can't fire as fast as you could on a regular arcade cabinet.

  • does the no fire trick work

  • u can find out wat the arcade version is like very easily. those ms pac man/galaga arcade machine anywere nowadays.

  • They should put Phantasy Star Online from the Dreamcast on Xbox Live Market Place. Thumbs up if you agree. :D

  • Is the Tiger Wood's game the one with the hoes?

  • Check out Game Room!

  • review Galaga Legions!!!! Thumbs up if you agree with me.

  • YES!!! Radiant Silvergun on Xbox Live, DO IT NOW MICROSOFT!

  • Classic games, HD, talk to friends, can it get any better?

  • dude can i use the classic arcade controler with this

  • This game rules forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the best game ever, now I'm going to go and watch Puppy Bowl VI

  • This is an excellent addition to XBLA!! Identical match to the arcade version! A must for us reto gamers.

  • I remember as a nerdy teen I would go down to the local cannery which had been converted to sort of an indoor strip mall of sorts. Amongst the old arcade machines there, they had a perfectly functioning upright of Galaga. I put lots of quarters into that thing, even though at the time I had a Dreamcast! To this day I throw on Namco Classics on PS2 for some Galaga - timeless design, gameplay, sound, the lot.

  • @Philx4xFar: That's the reason I play Namco Museum lol.

  • You need to review Galaga Leigons for Xbox Live Arcade!

  • well i wonder if they have namco musiem or what ever its called on xbox live

  • they do

  • 2 Games that MUST show up on XBLA soon are Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong JR.

  • eh sorry thats strictly nintendo

  • a game i would love to see on xbox live would be the super famicon's Gundam-wing Endless Duel.

dont know it look it up its a absolutely awsome fighter game. the super famicon if you did not know is the japanese super nintend0.

  • alguien sabe del truco de galaga ?

para que las abejas dejen de disparar

  • Dude -- watching this now at 25+ years distance, you realize how awesome the game design was in Galaga. The sounds just rock - every one of them concise and memorable, from the little rack-up of the pins representing the stage number you're at, to the "Challenging Stage!" flourish at 2:02, to the low thrumming pulsation in the background during pauses. Really creates an atmosphere. And the game play is so smooth and slick.

    Utter classic.

  • You can get this exact same Galaga port (minus the fancy arcade side panels) on Namco Museum 50th Anniversary on the PS2 and Xbox.

  • I think it was on the Gamecube too

  • i have that game for original nes. not for virtual console, for that old grey box.

  • Nah man, I have galaga on the Wii, PC and 360, 360 has better sound, Wii has a little better graphics, but they're noty selfish with these old games ;P

  • they wont be able to put sega games on XBLA because they are on the wii virtual console already.

  • why is onic the hedgehog on xbla

  • how do you get the blue spaceship?

  • I play this is Namco Museum ALL THE TIME!

  • Nothing like being drunk at 3 am playing galaga

  • lol XD

  • 429,000 right here, cuz im A BALLAAAA

  • i played this when i was a little kid

  • Virtual Console is better because it has more games and systems.

  • whats the name of the galaga game were you have to fight bosses and stuff?

  • I believe Radient Silvergun is coming to XBLA

  • this wasnt even really a game review

it was more of an xbox 360 review

  • Probably because there isn't much to review on Galaga.

  • Yeah... I'm also a bit confused as to why this is labeled as a Galaga review.

  • Ikaruga was released for the GC

  • Here's an idea for your wish list,

Maybe you could wish for SOULCALIBUR II to be on XBOX Live

  • best game ever. right next to yar's revenge. i;m gonna get this game 100% fur shur!!'

    :D

  • Not to crazy about Yar's Revenge myself.

  • That's the thing the 360 did right, it included everything you needed to get online, headset, component cables, HDD, PS3 is a great system it's just unfortunate that you have to buy that stuff separately, then again it is a bluray player and has built in wirless.

Both systems are great and have their faults.

  • I have yet to play this game. I have not played it since 1995. This is the game that you can play during the loading screen on the PS1 port of Mortal Kombat 3 right? I do have the game for computer. Time to pop that sucker in . Great review. If this is on the PSN i have not seen it.

  • i love this game on xbox but the fire is slower than it was on the origanal arcade

  • i love that analogy at the begining. "Xbox live is like the strawberry jam on toast for the xbox" or something like that. :)

  • dude u need a BMW its the most awesomest car ever and ita convertible

  • Your Ikaruga perdiction was right, haha.

  • it's kind of awkward to walk around the room with a controller in your hand I think. I can't imagine making popcorn while holding the 360 controller

  • Galaga is AWESOME!

    but wen you are you

    review galaga legions

  • Galaga is one of the best classic Arcade games of all time, thanks for posting!!

  • Awesome stuff. I wonder if it's weird that whenever I finally get an XBOX 360, the first thing I'll do is buy old arcade games. At this rate, though, I may get a PS3 before the 360. That's a decision for 2009, though. At least M.U.S.H.A. is coming out for the Wii's Virtual Console soon, I hope (it's set to come out in April for Japan!!!). Lots of Still Gaming reviews are going to come from the VC. I never was able to get into the shoot 'em up, but I just bought one VC game that blew me away.

  • Man I did just that . I saw how I could get all the games I used to play when I was a child in the arcades and I started downloading away .

  • Another great review for CGRHD.

Most of the games you wanted from Sega will probably be on the Wii Virtual Console, or at least the Genesis games would be. If they have the arcade version of Sunset Riders on the Xbox Live Arcade, that would be awesome. That game was awesome, it was made by Konami after all, and they know how to make great games.

  • That was AWESOME! It looked and handled just like the arcade version. Its great that the younger audience gets to play these awesome games. Galaga RULES!

  • The only thing that sucks about this version is that you can't do rapid fire.

  • @sinistermoon Galaxian was better.
